LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) -
Quentin Tarantino is considering writing and directing a new installment in the long-running "Friday the 13th" horror film series.

Tarantino is in early talks with New Line Cinema, where he is scheduled to meet with executives this week.

The original "Friday," released in 1980 and featuring the hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees, spawned a series of sequels, including the 2003 hit "Freddy vs. Jason," in which Jason squared off against Freddy Krueger from the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series.

New Line tried to make a sequel to "Freddy vs. Jason" involving the "Evil Dead" character Ash, but it couldn't reach a deal with "Dead" rights holder Sam Raimi.

According to those familiar with the discussions, Tarantino is intrigued with the idea of playing with one of the movie's classic horror villains. If the project does develop, it could be the first film Tarantino directs outside Miramax Films.

The filmmaker, whose credits include "Reservoir Dogs" and "Pulp Fiction," recently signed on to direct the season finale of CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation."

Speaking of Animalman, where is he?
If he wants a franchise that bad, based on the Lucy Liu sequence in "Kill Bill," I say give him the fucking Green Hornet.

Actually, Jason didn't appear in the first Friday The 13th until the last five or ten minutes, and only as a child/ghost. He didn't wear the now-famous hockey mask until Friday The 13th Part 3 (in 3D) - in #2, he wore a burlap sack.

This "anal fanboy moment" was jokingly and ironically brought to you by me, Joe Mama.

As for this news report, I think it's a decent attempt by New Line (who I think own the rights) at revamping a franchise that got more ridiculous as more sequels came out. The Freddy vs Jason movie was a good attempt at breathing new life and interest into both franchises, as well. Bringing in a name like Tarantino potentially brings in Tarantino's audience which, for a low budget flick like this series, would translate into serious profit.

That said, I agree with G-Man. Green Hornet is more his style. Or a series of movies featuring the characters from Kill Bill.
Absolutely. Let him do Green Hornet.
Ill admit Im a tarantino fanboy. I'll watch ANY genre film he decides to do.

what if it's a gay porno.......oh nevermind.....
He's said he's wanted to do a sexpoitation movie at some time.
Whatever Tarantinos next film it,it will be yet another overhyped piece of shit!
I concur.
Best stuff he has done is when he aint directing such as From dusk til dawn & Desperado!
He was in Alias a couple times. He was good in it.
Sums wrong if you think his acting is better than his writing/directing.
I didn't know he was directing an episode of CSI, that's cool.
He also directed an epidode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Jackie brown was da bomb yo!

Holy shit, that would be amazing. I'm a HUUUUUUGE fan of the Green Hornet (I have cassette tapes of the original radio dramas, the comic book run from NOW Comics, and a tape of the show, with Bruce Lee and Van Williams).

It's odd, I don't hear people mention the Green Hornet often. Not quite as cool as Batman, but he's my second favorite hero of all time. Tons and tons and tons of potential there.

It's funny, I read the article and didn't even catch that until you noted it. I must be losing it.

In a new interview with British movie magazine Empire, the Kill Bill helmer effectively killed the idea of resurrecting Jason Vorhees for a new installment in New Line Cinema's profitable franchise.

"What's happening with Friday the 13th? Nothing at all," the 41-year-old told the magazine when asked about the speculation after picking up Empire's Icon of the Decade award over the weekend.

"New Line talked to me about it," Tarantino continued, "[and] I like Jason and everything, but I've no intention of directing a movie."

Studio sources confirmed to E! Online last week that New Line had set up a meeting with Tarantino to discuss a potential Friday the 13th film. Apparently New Line requested the meeting after learning that the Oscar winner had floated the idea of reinventing the big-screen slasher to Cabin Fever director Eli Roth, saying he had always dreamed of doing a Jason movie and already had a story and opening montage worked out in his head.

But Tarantino now has other plans. "I would love to do a horror film," the Pulp Fiction purveyor told Empire. "I'm just saying it's not going to be Friday the 13th."

Meanwhile, the director has plenty to keep him busy. He has signed on to write and direct the season finale of CBS' hit series CSI before embarking on his next movie project.

Tarantino has recently said he intends on finally beginning production on a long-in-the-works pet project of his, the World War II drama Inglorious Bastards. However, according to Entertainment Weekly, he has yet to compile the scenes he's written into a shooting script

Another long-simmering project in the mix is a kung fu saga--entirely in Mandarin--that will hit theaters late next year. An avowed lover of Hong Kong cinema, Tarantino hopes to roll cameras in early '06 on the yet-to-be-titled feature.

And fans will be either thrilled--or mortified--to learn that Tarantino will dust off his disputed acting chops for the biker drama Hell Ride, due out sometime next year, per IMDb.com.

Beyond that, Tarantino says he's actually pondering retirement. "I hope to give you at least 15 more years of movies," he told Empire. "I'm not going to be this old guy that keeps cranking them out. My plan is to have a theater by that time in some small town and I will be the manager--this crazy old movie guy."
