Can this be any worse?

disgraceful, absolutely disgraceful!

Just more crap dumbed down in a failed attempt to please everyone.

rexed.

I'm old enough to have not watched Transformers growing up. So I went into this clip having almost no preconceived notions or prejudices of what the show should be like.

With that being said, this new cartoon is complete ass.

I hate this sort of cartoon art.
This is why I never watch super hero cartoons these days!

What a pile of wank!

Congratulations old Transformers cartoon, you now look like Shakespeare.
Posted By: rex Re: Transformers: Animated - 2008-03-29 11:48 PM
I think I said this in another thread but this cartoon looks like a rip off of teen titans, but without the good parts.

Posted By: rex Re: Transformers: Animated - 2008-03-30 1:12 AM
You know I only like tights when you're wearing them.

its like this shit was made for kids!
Posted By: Jason E. Perkins Re: Transformers: Animated - 2008-03-31 10:18 PM
Being made for kids is fine. I liked Teen Titans, personally, and I've gotten into more kids cartoons than any grown man should ever admit.

However, there's also bad, and that cartoon is it. I've seen multiple clips and they all sound more like they were written BY a six-year-old than for one. Titans (and I'll continue the comparison cuz the animation is obviously the same) was often funny and smart. Like other good kids shows, it was written so parents could enjoy it too.
Posted By: Nöwheremän Re: Transformers: Animated - 2008-03-31 10:25 PM
But what do kids think?
Posted By: Rob Re: Transformers: Animated - 2008-03-31 10:35 PM
the kids ratings aren't anything spectacular, but they're pretty good
Posted By: Nöwheremän Re: Transformers: Animated - 2008-03-31 10:43 PM
So basically, the target audience is happy!
What a shame adults dont enjoy it!

It was written by someone who thinks all kids are stupid.

I have two nephews, one is seven and one is eight. They can't stand shows like this. They don't want to be talked down to by their cartoons. They love cartoons like Animaniacs, Batman: TMS and other shows from the 80's and early 90's. Those were for kids but they were also written for a mature audience. Most shows today are written by groups of people who have no clue what kids (or adults) like.

yes, that's why the new cartoons are rated so high, drawing in numbers previously unseen.

this whole thread is 20 and 30 year-olds talking about how terrible a kids cartoon is, made to target 6-11 year-olds. its typically this same group that remembers their cartoons being shakespearian tomes of genius.

granted, i hear ya. the new transformers cartoon is silly. and there are certainly "smarter" cartoons out there (BTAS, animaniacs, even spongebob!) but... i mean... jesus! did you ever critique animation quality when you were 9? did you even know the difference?

i, of course, have the same nostalgic fondness for the original transformers cartoon that many of you have. but, holy crap, y'gotta be crazy thinking that was so much better than this. so much of it (and every other show) is terrible in hindsight! i'm pre-destined and biased like you enjoy it because i grew up on it. my brain is already set to "enjoy" so i somehow ignore all of the high quantities of terrible it featured. if you wanted to be critical, you could make so many damning judgements on the original; from animation to dialog to stories to voices, etc.

but you didn't. because you were 9. and it was your shithead 30 year-old cousin who thought it was crap, instead.

Are you doubting the stupidity of todays youth?
Posted By: Irwin Schwab Re: Transformers: Animated - 2008-04-01 3:09 AM
thats not my point, my point is the cartoon is written for it's audience.

as rob says, you gotta be a little off yer rocker if you think you should enjoy it.

as great as he-man, transformers and gi joe were, the parents of our day thought they were dumbed down...

Err Rob, I was agreeing with ya!

I will say though, I can still say the artwork on the old Transformers was better than this modern style!
Whether the cartoon is any better, thats a whole nother topic!

its still a preference point between the two, but yeah, the artwork of the 80s toon was certainly more detailed. i like it better, though im sure most of that is just because that, to me, is the "definitive" look.

however the animation of the new toon, on average, is hands-down better than the original -- in part due to the limited detail.

I was, in fact, an 'adult' when He-man, GI Joe and Transformers were on the air. But my little brother watched all those shows and, as a result, I had some exposure to all three. Of the ones you listed, I thought GI Joe was actually pretty good. If I was home when it came on I'd actually watch "Joe" with my brother.

It obviously wasn't BTAS good, but definitely better than the other kids' cartoons of the time and worlds ahead of this modern Transformers.
