Seinfeld actor Daniel von Bargen, who's best known for playing George Costanza's boss Mr. Kruger in the sitcom, is in critical condition after a failed suicide attempt earlier this week, TMZ reports.

The 61-year-old was in his Cincinnati apartment Monday morning when he shot himself in the head and then called for help. According to audio of the 911 tape posted on the gossip site, he told the operator, "I've shot myself in the head and I need help."

The gunshot to the temple was not an accident. Von Bargen, who is a diabetic, recently learned some bad news. "I was supposed to go to the hospital and I didn't want to. So I shot myself... They were supposed to amputate at least a few toes."

Von Bargen was transported to a nearby hospital.

The veteran actor also recurred as Commandant Edwin Spangler on Malcolm in the Middle . On the big screen, he's appeared in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The Faculty and Super Troopers.
He'll always be Chief Grady to me.
He was going to kill himself over losing a couple toes? What a fucking pansy.
losing toes/feet is the first step in a long, painful process of dying for diabetics. he was trying to save himself (and probably his family) a lot of pain.
I don't know about that...a guy I know lost a foot from diabetes about 20 years ago when he was in his 60s. He's in his 80s now and still going strong.

His family are a bunch of pricks if they would be relieved to have him dead.
For many diabetics, losing the toes is the first in a line of amputations. Many go on with a good life after that. For many others, the next phase is losing the foot, leg, etc.
Many get blind, or so I've heard from someone who suffers from Type 1 diabetes.
Grimm knows exactly what he's talking about, G-Shill.

you don't know because you haven't had to deal with it/go through it. I do because I've had to with several family members. your friend is a rarity.

You don't need to bother to explain to me why disabled people are worthless. Other persons have done that in the past.

Wow. You think disabled people are worthless? Please don't bring that in here. That's not what this topic is about.
I thought the topic was about G-man?
Apparently, Cap thinks it's about his hatred of disabled people.
Also, you're confused. G-man wasn't on Seinfeld. They just called the character the Soup Nazis. He wasn't really a Nazis.

*sigh*

Sarcasm fail. I meant that people who thinks that life as a disabled person is worthless, never mind what reason for the disability, are ableists.

Then enlighten me *when* life is meaningless. Enlighten me when, *exactly*, life is not worth living. Enlighten me in which ways some persons have dignified, valuable lives, and in which ways other persons don't have such lives.

Bring up suicide and look who shows up again.

Actually, I lurk quite regularly. 's not a question of "showing up again." Glad to see you still care, Rex.
But you only post in suicide threads?

Oh, I'm going to "enlighten you" since you're so fucking clearly fixated in perpetuating your misunderstanding of the conversation. I'm going to make this so very clearly fucking simple that it will be impossible for you not to understand what the fuck I said, ok?

now here's what I originally said: "he was trying to save himself (and probably his family) a lot of pain."

now here's your misconception: "His family are a bunch of pricks if they would be relieved to have him dead."

I ignored this because I know english isn't your first language and I figured that by the following posts made that you would figure out your error. but as you obviously haven't figured out that you're not correctly following the conversation and that you're barking up the wrong damn tree, I provide the following:

here's me spoonfeeding information to you in the hope that you finally get what's being said: the mentality of people who attempt/commit suicide is that they feel that they (and the world around them, including their families) would all be better off if they simply stopped existing. they feel that by ending their lives they are saving everyone involved would be spared a lot of pain and suffering. they are of course, unaware of the pain and suffering that their suicide causes in those around them. they're so fixated on the concept of ending things that they are blinded to anything and everything else around them. this is the mentality of the man who attempted to shoot himself. he *thought* he would be saving himself and his family a lot of pain, oblivious to the pain he would instead be causing and has indeed caused. NOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I SAID? ARE YOU FUCKING ENLIGHTENED YET? or do I have to further explain this to you?

I considered, for a brief moment, to bring up how Western civilization has lost focus and drive after the end of the Cold War and the so-called "End of History", and through its mass media, brain washed its youth into mindless consumerism and decadence.

But instead, I shall say:

Well played, Joe Mama. Well played.

*If* is being the operative word. I never said that they *were* (given that we haven't been provided with their opinion in this matter).

Don't accuse me of having trouble understanding English, if you can't understand the difference between *if* and *were*.

Thank you.

No, really. I thank you for the time and effort you have taken to explain what you *tried* to tell before, despite the obvious (mental or physical) pain it has induced on your person. I hope the use of the f-word has relieved you from feelings of aggressions. If it haven't, I recommend you follow the example of Uschie and leave these boards before they've made you even more angry and frustrated. Contrary as to what you may believe, I'm not the most ignorant or the most dogmatic or the most passive-aggressive poster here. There are far worse members. If you feel the need to save your brain and your heart from more stress, then take a break from this website.

You have made it *perfectly* clear to me what you were driving at. A pity that neither you, or thedoctor, said so from the very beginning. Instead, thedoctor and Prometheus said that once one have to amputate a body-part due to diabetes type I, it *always* mean that one will have to amputate several other body-parts. From what I've read in this thread, it was implied that this poor man was *correct* in his assessment that his life was now worthless. NO ONE HERE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT HOW THE NEXT OF KIN WOULD IN FACT BE SAD OVER HIS (FORTUNATELY NOT OCCURRED) DEMISE. Or that he was wrong to think that they would be relieved.

Have a good day, sir.
Dammit, Lothar. Your thread is tearing the boards apart!

Missed it again. I also don't see a post at all where Pro makes such a statement as you claim he did.

You were the first person to mention a belief that disabled people weren't worthy of life. No one here said or inferred that. And you were the only one who kept pushing that point. This whole thread was about a man trying to take his own life, not others trying to take it from him. It's not my or anyone else's fault that you jumped to an incorrect conclusion and trying to drive it home when everyone else kept posting that you were on the wrong track.

nice attempt at backpedaling, but no. you were the one who brought the notion that the man's family wanted him dead into the topic, and you were the one who continually brought it up over and over again, despite being told that you were not understanding the conversation. your attempt at spreading your failure to comprehend the original post out to other posters is as nonsensical your original posting.
