This was a surprisingly good horror movie imho. I wasn’t expecting much and started it with figuring I would just end up reading while it played. Instead I actually ended up watching the thing. It takes place in the 60’s and the main characters are a group of nerdy friends. The monsters are scary and the ending avoids the usual cliches.
I watched it but I kept falling asleep while it played. I liked it so I'll have to watch it again.

A couple other movies I've seen in the recent past that were memorable horror films:

Rosemary's Baby, that I first watched when I was about 12 and thought was super scary at the time. But on a second viewing at age 57, I thought it was rather dull and plodding, with a lot of yelling and cheap drama substituting for actual well-crafted suspense.

I watched Super 8 for the first time a few months ago. I enjoyed it but was surprised at how much "Stranger Things" might be said to have ripped it off.
Scary Stories also had a Stranger Things vibe.
I liked Super 8 but might have missed the Excorcism one. Have to check that one out. Another recent one that I liked was the “Ready or Not” where a newlywed is forced to play a deadly game of hide and seek. That’s more thriller though than horror.
Scary Stories also had a Stranger Things vibe.
The GF is a big fan of Stranger Things. I’ll have to tell her about this.
