I recently got a stun gun. It's not made in China but it's pretty much a no-name brand. It looks like a flash light but the ends have metal prongs that spark when you use the stun gun. I did some reading around and it seems that it's rather weak @ 1m volts/2.5A, but since Filipinos are small people, I imagine this is enough to take down an attacker for a few seconds, giving me enough time to run like a bitch or to scream (again, like a bitch.)

One thing that bothers me is that I have no way of actually testing if this will do the trick. I would try it on myself and see if it knocks me out but I already have problems with my health and don't want to give myself a heart attack. The stun gun gives off a really loud crackling sound and emits a noticeable electric arc, but how do I know that it's not just for show? It would be really deadly if I use this during a life-threatening emergency only to find out that it doesn't really work. I imagine the attacker would laugh at my stupidity while strangling me to death. That would be embarassing.

It's made out of heavy aluminum, though. So I guess it could be used to bludgeon someone.

Try it on someone at work or a family member. Let us know how well it works.

You need a wacky neighbor.

Always aim for the dick. Even the weakest electric will send a man to the ground when used there.

Entirely illegal here. Wouldn't even know how to get one.

...Would quite like one though. Thought about buying a cattle prod for home invasion security a few years ago.

Only tazers(that's the one that shoots darts, right?) require a license here. Stun Guns and pepper sprays can be bought even on sidewalks.

See if you can find a stray dog to test it on. Then, when you're done, you've got dinner for the family.

Do stun guns have to contact skin or can the charge go through clothes?

A cattle prod feels like a bad bee sting! Most likley you will just piss off an invader and not incapacitate them.

The manual says it goes through clothes as long as it isn't too thick or made up of leather.

You'd be powerless against that Gimp from Pulp Fiction.

SOM never fights off the Gimp's advances.

Who would?

Bruce Willis would

This made me think of actor David Spade, who got tasered a few years ago by his personal assistant.

That is some major pissed-off at your employer!

Although not a recommended test subject for your new taser.

No shit. Both are illegal here. Cops have tasers and pepper spray.

Try it on your butt. If you inherited my fine booty the extra flesh will protect you.

That'd make for a super-fun Friday night.

Lothar: Yes, as long as there's contact to conduct electricity, they'll work through clothes.
SoM: That stun gun will most likely hurt. It might hurt like hell. Tasers and other high-dollar brands actually disrupt nervous impulses to the muscular system using electrical current. Think full-body cramp. That said, your stun gun will probably be "okay" unless you're being attacked by someone with a high pain tolerance. Same logic applies to pepper spray, some people can handle it better than others. I hated having to use that crap at work, because inevitably, you wind up catching a decent bit of it yourself. Your mileage may vary.
