Superior Spider-Man #1 comes out this week and while most of my Spider-Man readers are going to give it a shot, they're hesitant to commit to the title fully or even give it a positive outlook. Most are going to go issue by issue, but having a villain like Doc Ock masquerading as Peter Parker.....reformed or not, isn't something they're too keen on. I myself just view it as a story arc along the lines of when John Walker replaced Steve Rogers as Cap or Dick Grayson as Batman. I highly doubt that it'll last beyond two years no matter what Marvel says(the editor,Steve Wacker, keeps pushing it's permanent),so I'll roll with it. At least noone I know is sending death threats to Slott over it.

I think it was a misstep, if you're going to do a reformed villain as Spidey story, to use Ock. Especially when the "reform" is due to a watered down version of mind control.

There's also the fact that, unlike some Spidey villains, Otto was always a combination of pompous ass and pure evil. It's hard to accept that, even with Peter rattling around in his brain like "Firestorm," he'd ever be a hero.

Instead of it seeming like a logical journey of a villain willingly mending his ways and trying to overcome his past, it comes off as shoehorned into the premise the writer wanted to use.

I just had a discussion with a customer and pretty much what you said there G is why they're not excited about it. Also, labeling the title "Superior" doesn't evoke a positive response like "Amazing" or "Spectacular".....actually makes you dislike the character because of it.

It's a good thing Quesada eliminated Peter's marriage to Mary Jane to open Spider-Man up to more story possibilities.

Read it.It was ok. Issue had Spider-Ock fighting a new Sinister Six and checking out MJ's breasteses. The ending was something I expected a few issues down the road, not right off the bat(I won't spoil it......yet). Anyhow,it wasn't the worst thing I've ever read and the art by Ryan Stegman was decent enough(of course down the road a bit Humberto Ramos is doing art so I'll enjoy Stegman's while I can.). On the upside, my first guess as to who would be Spider-Man was Miguel O'Hara, and while obviously not, Dan Slott has stated that Spider-Man 2099 will be showing up in Superior Spider-Man so I'll have that to look forward to.
