Stylized Typefaces in Comic Books - 2015-06-23 12:35 PM
I was just re-reading Days Missing, and it took me longer than it should because they used a cursive typeface for the main character, most likely to show that his voice sounds different when compared to mortal humans. The same way they did for Morpheus in Sandman.
Unfortunately, the typeface they used is extremely difficult to read. Cursive with thin strokes. I fail to see how it passed by whoever is in charge of QC for the books (is it the responsibility of the editor or an art director of some sort? I dunno.)
It's still legible because you can make out the words just by seeing a few letters, but it becomes problematic with non english words like Mozambique and Hammurabi. Worse, they used white text on red background, which isn't the wisest use of colors if you want text to stand out. Vertigo at least used boldface white text on black backgoround.
