From the Washington Post:

Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

Need any more proof of the divisiveness and elitism that John McCain and Sarah Palin are bringing to our country? Imagine, whipping up a crowd to hate "the other." Any surprise that Palin and McCain have so many ties to anti-Semites?

This is really starting to turn into the daily GOP 2 minutes of hate. This is exactly why the gOP must not win. This party has degenerated to a mob of crazed extremists.

Man shot three times in street by racist gunman - for wearing Barack Obama T-shirt

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 6:01 PM on 07th October 2008

A man told today how he was shot three times in a London street for wearing a Barack Obama T-shirt.

Dube Egwuatu was buying a mobile telephone top-up card in an off-licence when the gunman confronted him and glared at the top, which carries an image of the Democrat US presidential candidate underneath the legend 'Believe'.

The man then launched into a tirade of racist slurs, shouting 'I f***ing hate n*****s' and urging 36-year-old Mr Egwuatu to leave the shop with him.

The man then left the shop but when Mr Egwuatu re-emerged, the attacker was waiting for him in broad daylight with a threatening-looking dog and holding a gun behind his back.

Realising what had sparked the increasingly violent assault, the terrified Mr Egwuatu zipped up his jacket to cover the image of Mr Obama and walked to his car.

But the shaven-headed man, who was white, followed Mr Egwuatu and after pulling open the passenger door pointed the gun at him.

After pleading with the man to leave him alone, the married former street warden put the keys in the ignition and turned the engine on.

The attacker then fired the gas-powered ball-bearing pistol three times, hitting the civil servant in the face, hand and shoulder.

Fearing for his life and bleeding heavily, Mr Egwuatu raced away in his car and found somewhere safe to call for help.

He was taken to hospital and later sent to have a piece of metal removed from his jaw.

Mr Egwuatu, a data analyst with Croydon Council, said: 'The venom in his voice was frightening.

'He was telling me that he was going to kill me.

'I couldn't believe it was happening - and just because I was wearing an Obama T-shirt. He was trying to make me walk somewhere quieter, saying: 'I've got something for you,' and 'I'm going to kill you.'

He added: 'Obama inspires me, his educational track record alone is quite unbelievable - that is why I was wearing the T-shirt.

'I did not think for one minute it could stir up such powerful feelings of hatred and I never said a word to him.'

Mr Egwuatu's wife, Angela, 35, said neither of them had experienced anything like it during their childhood in Nigeria.

Mrs Egwuatu, an immigration officer, said: 'At first my feelings were pure horror and now it is pure anger.

'If he had been carrying a real gun I would have been a widow. It is just ridiculous.

'I don't know how a person's mentality works. Why would a T-shirt get you to the point where you want to shoot someone.'

To the untrained eye, ball-bearing guns like the one used in the attack look every bit like a real firearm.

The potentially lethal weapons are often converted by criminals to fire real bullets, and can be bought easily in high-street shops and on websites.

The Met said it was investigating the incident, which took place in South Norwood, and that police searched a nearby house which the attacker was seen going into.

No one has been arrested.

FBI investigating after Obama effigy is hung from tree at campus of Christian university

By Mail Foreign Service
Last updated at 2:00 AM on 02nd October 2008

The FBI is investigating after four students confessed to hanging an effigy of Barack Obama from a tree on the campus of their Christian university.

The life-sized effigy was found by a university employee at about 7am on September 23. It was immediately removed, and the university said it believed just two students saw it.

George Fox University broke the news to students and staff Tuesday afternoon at an all-campus meeting. About 1,000 people attended, said Rob Felton, a university spokesman.

A statement from the school said the penalties against the four students were "immediate long-term suspension and public service."

The school cited federal privacy rules in not disclosing more about the students or their punishment.

The FBI is investigating whether any civil rights were violated.

"A criminal investigation is much more rigorous than an academic one, obviously," said Beth Anne Steele, an FBI spokeswoman.

She couldn't say when the investigation would be complete.

Felton said the university's own investigation led to the four students. "To the best of our knowledge these are the only people involved," he said. "We're not pursuing it any further."

The commercially produced cardboard cutout of Obama was hung from a tree last week with fishing line around the neck.

A message taped to the cutout read, "Act Six reject." That refers to a scholarship and leadership program for minority and low-income student leaders at Christian colleges primarily located in the Northwest.

Felton wouldn't comment on the students' motive. Instead he cited a statement from Brad Lau, the university's vice president of student life.

"Regardless of the students' intent, the image of a black man hung from a tree is one of the most hurtful symbols of racism in American history," Lau said in the statement.

"Displays such as this have no place on a campus that is dedicated to living out the teachings of Jesus."

University president Robin Baker echoed that sentiment in the address to students and staff.

“We will not tolerate such displays and condemn it in the strongest terms,” he said. “George Fox University is committed to becoming a place that more broadly represents the Kingdom of God – a place where students from diverse backgrounds come together to live out the teachings of Jesus in our world."

What's wrong with shooting a guy wearing a terrorist t-shirt?
Posted By: whomod Re: The Crazed Desperate Racist GOP Mob. - 2008-10-11 10:48 PM

GOP supporters are now also screaming for terrorist attack against Obama. John McCain and Sarah Palin should be very proud of the modern Republican party they've helped to create. The GOP has for years been a party far too cozy with hate and intolerance - with racists, anti-Semites, gay-bashers, and religious extremists - that's why many centrists left the Republican party years ago. And now John McCain and Sarah Palin, in a last-ditch effort to win at any cost, have whipped up calls for violence against their opponent that we've never seen in an election season that I can recall. Repeated calls at Palin/McCain rallies, and at election events around the country, for Obama to be assassinated. That'll go over well with women and independents. And the Republicans wonder why more and more people are fleeing their party.

John McCain and Sarah Palin have entered very dangerous territory here.

John Lewis vs. John McCain
Posted: Saturday, October 11, 2008 3:41 PM by Carrie Dann

From NBC's Carrie Dann

Georgia congressman John Lewis -- a civil rights leader and a man once deemed by John McCain as one of the "wisest" men he knew and one whose advice he would seek as president -- today likened the "negative tone" of McCain's campaign to that of incendiary segregation advocate George Wallace in the 1960s.

"What I am seeing reminds me too much of another destructive period in American history," Lewis wrote in a statement first posted on Politico's website. "Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are sowing the seeds of hatred and division, and there is no need for this hostility in our political discourse."

Noting that Alabama governor and presidential candidate George Wallace "never threw a bomb" but "created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights," Lewis attributed the 1963 bombing of a Birmingham church to the racial division sown by Wallace's political rhetoric.

"As public figures with the power to influence and persuade, Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are playing with fire, and if they are not careful, that fire will consume us all," the statement continues. "They are playing a very dangerous game that disregards the value of the political process and cheapens our entire democracy. We can do better. The American people deserve better."

The McCain campaign responded with a strongly-worded statement calling Lewis's remarks "brazen and baseless," and asking that Obama "personally repudiate these outrageous and divisive comments."

"Congressman John Lewis' comments represent a character attack against Governor Sarah Palin and me that is shocking and beyond the pale," reads the statement from McCain. "The notion that legitimate criticism of Senator Obama's record and positions could be compared to Governor George Wallace, his segregationist policies and the violence he provoked is unacceptable and has no place in this campaign. I am saddened that John Lewis, a man I've always admired, would make such a brazen and baseless attack on my character and the character of the thousands of hardworking Americans who come to our events to cheer for the kind of reform that will put America on the right track.

"I call on Senator Obama to immediately and personally repudiate these outrageous and divisive comments that are so clearly designed to shut down debate 24 days before the election. Our country must return to the important debate about the path forward for America."

Repudiate? The fact that vicious GOP mobs are calling for assassination?

Here, these are particularly nice:

Here's McCain trying to tame the flames He earlier fanned:

Yesterday, McCain was forced to tell his own supporters to STFU after a week of inciting them to yell death threats about Barack Obama. I wonder if the Secret Service had a little talk with McCain, and perhaps that's why he's suddenly so down on assassination talk. I wouldn't be surprised. Something happened. And McCain clearly isn't happy about it.

Don't get me wrong, McCain couldn't care less if his supporters are urging that Obama be killed - remember, just yesterday the McCain campaign put out two - TWO - statements defending the assassination talk. (And McCain's Obama-isn't-like-you-and-me commercials are still running, and still inciting racial and ethnic hatred.) McCain looks like a beaten man, especially when he says that you don't have to be scared of Obama as president of the United States. That sounded to me like a Freudian concession speech.

here's more of this hate that McCain has created at his campaign events.

That means the person who shot him was, in all likelihood, British and not a McCain/Palin voter, or even someone "incited" to violence by McCain and Palin.

g-Man, honestly, I find the tone of that entire event not so much maddening as I do, sad. I've seen this again and again in footage of McCain rallies and on he faces of his supporters. They're genuinely scared. Because they believe all the smear b.s that your side puts out there. They don't understand that these are political tactics designed to sow doubt. They truly believe that Obama is Muslim. The believe that this means that he'll destroy America from within. They believe he's "socialist" or "communist" or just 'not white" and that means the end of "freedom" or even just white supremacy. They swallow this stuff hook line and sinker and that's what's so dangerous about this climate.

What i'm also struck by, following up on this racial element is the almost complete lack of diversity I see in McCain crowds. And i don't mean just along racial lines necessarily. I see hardly any diversity even as far as Caucasians are concerned. It's all just an almost homogeneous sea of fair haired WASP whites with little exception. Which I just find odd given that America doesn't look like that anymore. Not even in "white America". It just seems that there is this fear among that crowd that they're coming to this realization as well and Obama just crystallizes that..

As they see their candidates fortunes sink like a stone, they're getting desperate, angry and scared that they need to take matters into their own hands or MORE needs to be done to save our country from this guy who in the words of the MCcain ads, "is not one of us". yeah, some of it is racist, and i do feel that is racist code for "non white" but to others, it's just code for him being aligned with Osama Bin Laden. And those dots were put out there for people to connect. With Bill Ayers, then by emphasizing his middle name and suggesting he's dangerous.

And look at that footage. Deep down, despite what McCain has set loose upon us, I saw almost an alarm in him that this fear was so deep and palatable in this crowd. That they genuinely "bought into it". And that they're genuinely afraid of Obama. I think he saw the monster his staff created and I'm just wondering if he's recalling 2000 and what was done to him. Hence his need now not so much to defend Obama but to set his misled followers a bit more straight about the fact that he's not Arab, he's not a terrorist, he's not to be afraid of. He's just an opposition candidate with different political ideas.

This is the danger of all that AM talk radio shit. That these people are that trusting and place so much faith in people who are just doing political hit jobs that they themselves are the terrorists that they claim Obama pals around with. terrorism as you know is instilling fear in a populace for political ends. And if something does end up happening to obama, I think it's safe to say that you can lay some of the blame right at the McCain Palin doorstep and with the far right demagougery on the right wing echo chamber.

So honestly G-Man, I don't want to hear more of your propaganda, I want to hear what you genuinely think of this political tactic gone too far.

You want to know what I genuninely think? I also think that, not his race, is what is scaring the shit out of people.

It's sad to see that we can't have opposition candidates any more in this country because the base of one of those parties has swallowed every hate filled retarded accusation that they hear from Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh as FACT. As you can see, Obama isn't a Democrat. He's a Marxist. He's wasn't a community activist. he was a terrorist. He doesn't have Hussein as a middle name as a result of his birth, no he chose it to reveal his secret agenda.

Because only the far right asholes know what's up and evryone else in the media is welll .... "liberal". But of course it's not you guys who are "crackpots", eh? \:lol\:

To me it looks like it's now mostly an entire party of hate filled fearful tinfoil hat wearers and that is why they deserve to be as marginalized as they're fast becoming. And the irony is that the people on the far right who they trust are basically the real terrorists, terrorizing them with talk of Obama the terrorist, Obama the Maxist, Obama the socialist, Obama the Muslim, etc. etc. As I said, when you use fear to carry out a political agenda, that is terrorism. And in some of those people that chose to trust these creeps, you can see that terror is real.

The sooner we're rid of these extremist far right crazies from our political system, the better off this country will finally be. Then maybe the reasoned adults and not the far right nuts can take over the Republican Party again. It's really disconcerting that someone who I thought knew better and just chooses to play dumb for political reasons is also part o the mob that thinks any opposition to GOP policies is "Marxist". And I'm supposed to be the extremist, eh?

I just hope that inspired by all these extreme smears, some asshole doesn't try to take matters into their own hands. Those crowds sure do look ready and willing.

At least there are still a few Republicans who aren't some vicious racist idiotic mob:

 Quote:
LaHood: Palin Should Stop It

Steve Miller, WBBM NewsRadio 780 Reporting

CHICAGO -- A seven-term Republican Congressman from Illinois is taking issue with fellow Republican Sarah Palin, saying some of the vice presidential candidate's rallies "don't befit the office she's running for."

Republican Congressman Ray LaHood represents the 18th District: central and western Illinois, including Peoria. He's retiring in January.

LaHood supports the McCain ticket, but doesn't like what he sees at some of the McCain-Palin rallies: When Barack Obama's name has been mentioned by Sarah Palin, there are shouts of "terrorist," and LaHood says Palin should put a stop to it.

"Look it. This doesn't befit the office that she's running for. And frankly, people don't like it."

Congressman LaHood says it could backfire on the Republican ticket.

He says the names that Obama is being called, "Certainly don't reflect the character of the man."

 Quote:
Panic attacks: Voters unload at GOP rallies

The unmistakable momentum behind Barack Obama's campaign, combined with worry that John McCain is not doing enough to stop it, is ratcheting up fears and frustrations among conservatives.

And nowhere is this emotion on plainer display than at Republican rallies, where voters this week have shouted out insults at the mention of Obama, pleaded with McCain to get more aggressive with the Democrat and generally demonstrated the sort of visceral anger and unease that reflects a party on the precipice of panic.

so you guys are "panicked"? \:lol\:

Good.

Why the panic? Do you feel that only Republicans deserve to "rule"? That's not Democracy then BTW.

And so in response, you guys go to the inner ugly that many outside observers have been saying has been there inside the far right base all along. I'm so glad that's all you guys have left and been reduced to. As you can plainly see, the uglier and more virulent you've all gotten, the more openly you all parrot the smear that you hear on Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, the bigger Obama's lead has widened. Nobody wants to be near or associated with the old cranky racist John Bircher uncle.

This chestnut, published in todays NYT comes from the Pennsylvania GOP Chair:

 Quote:
In Pennsylvania, Robert A. Gleason Jr., the state Republican chairman, said he was concerned that Mr. McCain’s increasingly aggressive tone was not working with moderate voters and women in the important southeastern part of a state that is at the top of Mr. McCain’s must-win list.

“They’re not as susceptible to attack ads,” Mr. Gleason said. “I worry about the southeast. Obama is making inroads.”

Funny that Mr. Gleason is so worried about the "aggressive tone." Last week, as Will Bunch at Philly.com reported, that same Mr. Gleason sent out a press release calling Obama "a terrorist's best friend." Gleason is clearly an idiot. He's got only himself (and McCain and Palin) to blame for the ugliness that's turning off voters in his state.

I'll conclude with a comment from former Bush cabinet secretary Tommy Thompson who was pretty blunt:

 Quote:
Tommy Thompson, a Republican who is a former governor of Wisconsin, said it would be difficult for Mr. McCain to win in his state but not impossible, particularly if he campaigned in conservative Democratic parts of the state. Asked if he was happy with Mr. McCain’s campaign, Mr. Thompson replied, “No,” and he added, “I don’t know who is.”

Yes, the GOP rats are jumping off the McCain ship. Those same rats were all on the Bush ship that destroyed America.

This election is going to be a total repudiation of the Republican party.

Racists for McCain

From a Palin rally yesterday in Johnstown, Pa. Something tells me it's not Obama's tax policy that this man fears.

Him, or the other smiling idiots walking approvingly beside him.

I had a feeling that as Mcain's fortunes would dwindle and the election neared, you'd start seeing the REAL reason why people fear an Obama Presidency despite all the "Muslim" and "anti-American" BS. Some people just never fail to be predictable.

The racist rhetoric that has been popping up on the McCain campaign trail as of late doesn’t seem to be just the work of an out of control mob: McCain’s campaign organizers are also getting in on the act. McCain’s Virginia campaign organizer, Bobby May, wrote a racist column titled “The (clarified) Platform of Barack Hussein Obama” last week that “satirized” Obama by claiming he’d “pay Ludacris to paint the White House black,” change the stars on the American flag to a “star and crescent logo,” he’d change the currency to feature images of Oprah and Ludacris (this guy’s knowledge of hip-hop seems relegated to people Bill O’Reilly hates), and he’d use the drug war money to give cheap heroin to his constituency.

He also wrote that Obama would divert more foreign aid to Africa so "the Obama family there can skim enough to allow them to free their goats and live the American Dream." Once again, He joked that Obama would replace the 50 stars on the U.S. flag "with a star and crescent logo," an Islamic symbol, and that his policy on drugs would be to "raise taxes to pay for Obama's inner-city political base."

Now Bobby May, far from being just another racist McCain nut job that the campaign seeks to minimize and disavow, is also treasurer of the Buchanan County Republican Party and was listed in a July news release as the county's representative on McCain's Virginia leadership team, though he said his column reflected his views alone, and he denied it was racist.

So yet again we see the real problem Republicans have with Barack Obama. If you look at most maps of the U.S. as far as the electorate is concerned, you can see that the edges are turning blue and the red is being relegated to the middle. I predict that the racist Republicans, after an Obama victory, will soon hole up in the hills of Montana, Idaho North Dakota and Wyoming and from there they'll make their last stand for the "real America" and "Real American values". The rest of America will give a collective shrug and a yawn though.

So let's just get this straight.

  • When liberals spent the past eight years spewing anti-Bush and anti-America hate the center-left media and people like whomod told us they were an anomoly.
  • When Louis Farrakhan praised Obama as the Messiah and Hamas endorsed Obama as the second coming, the argument was that he can't be responsible for all of his supporters.
  • When questions are raised about Obama's close 20-year relationship with racist pastor Jeremiah Wright, his personal friendship with former PLO spokesman and leading anti-Israel professor Rashid Khalidi, business dealings with convicted felon Tony Rezko, and ties to unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, we're told it's an unfair attempt to establish "guilt by association." With Glorious Leader Obama, all that matters is whatever he is currently saying.

...yet when an angry dude grabs a microphone at a McCain rally and says he's scared of Obama, and old woman says Obama's an Arab, it tells you all you need to know about McCain--even though McCain himself immediately condemns them and defends Obama.

Yep. It's all about the censorship. Any one who runs against the Messiah is going to be accused of promoting hate speech and censored.

El presidente for life.

VA GOP Chief Compares Obama to Osama

October 12, 2008 3:52 PM

Time's Karen Tumulty spent some time in Virginia this week covering the ground game in that battleground state, and happened upon an interesting little scene.

In McCain's Gainesville, Va., office, Virginia Republican Party Chairman Jeff Frederick, standing on a folding chair, spoke to 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door.

He gave them "talking points," Tumulty writes, "for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden."

Said Frederick: "Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon," in a reference to Obama acquaintance William Ayers. "That is scary."

Added a woman: "And he won't salute the flag."

(Not true.)

Offered a male volunteer: "We don't even know where Senator Obama was really born."

(Also not true.)

Todays Republican Party. This is what John McCain has to deal with. A candidate that ran on his "maverick" image and his willingness to work along the middle. A candidate who has to appeal to independents and moderates in order to win the election. A candidate now saddled with, and still having to appeal and fire up the most idiotic virulent crazies in America today. People that get their hate filled talking points from AM talk radio and FOX News. He's saddled with you guys. For better or worse. And it looks like it's for the worst.

Good. The more crazy talk you right wingers put out, that you guys genuinely believe mind you, the worse it'll get for McCain.

The Modern Republican Party. Terrorized by the very people who feed them that shit to scare them into voting Republican. There's "terrorists" in America all right, and the main one is some ridiculous Fred Flintstone looking fuck called Sean Hannity. Hearing the real fear and misinformation in these crowds, you see that he's terrorized and misled scores of people in this country, many of them older Americans who trust them to tell them truth.

Then there's people like some of you who know better but still willingly and willfully accept this venomous, virulent, vile, crap and even help spread it further.

BTW is Walter Annenberg a "terrorist"? Just asking since it was (Reagan Ambassador)Annenberg that chose William Ayers as well as Barack Obama to sit on that education board.

Or does sitting on Waler Annenberg's board make Obama a Reagan Republican since he chose to "associate" with that Republican....

I know I know.. too much contradictory data to think about!!

With Election Day Nearing, Distasteful Rhetoric a Two-Party Problem
John McCain's not the only candidate whose supporters are using distasteful rhetoric on the campaign trail.

FOXNews.com
Monday, October 13, 2008

John McCain has taken a lot of heat from critics who say he's stoking anger and intolerance among his supporters.

But the Republican nominee is not the only one with supporters whose comments and demonstrations on the race are obscene and, in some cases, violent.

An array of T-shirts, for instance, displaying the image of Sarah Palin and some variation of the "C-word" are gaining new popularity as Election Day nears. A group of protesters outside Palin's fundraiser in Philadelphia Saturday wore shirts emblazoned with the words, "Sarah Palin Is a C--T."

Cafe Press is selling a slew of off-color Palin T-shirts, including the one spotted in Philadelphia. (Granted, a shirt with the words "Barack Obama Is a Can't" is also for sale on the site.)

The Portland Tribune also reported over the weekend that two men in Oregon were arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail at a large McCain campaign sign, igniting part of the structure.

And on Monday at a McCain rally in North Carolina, an Obama supporter stood outside and repeatedly yelled, "McCain is a murderer."

One woman yelled back: "He fought for your right to say that."

Republicans argue that while neither campaign can curtail every action of its supporters, McCain is being unfairly depicted as the only candidate who attracts audience members with extreme views.

"It's something that we recognize -- that neither campaign has complete control over their supporters," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds told FOXNews.com. "We've stood firmly behind our effort to try to hold our rallies to a higher level, and certainly we would expect the same from Barack Obama.

"It is clear that on many occasions they have failed to keep their supporters above board," he added. "(Voters) should understand that this is a phenomenon that plays itself out at both campaigns."

Indeed, both candidates are still attracting rowdy supporters.

The mini-altercation in North Carolina took place a few hundred yards from a sign that read "NOBAMA" featuring side-by-side pictures of Obama and Usama bin Laden.

Politico.com posted a photo snapped at the McCain rally earlier in Virginia Beach showing audience members holding up signs that say: "Obama Bin Lyin'."

Bounds said the McCain campaign condemns such signs.

Georgia Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights icon, accused McCain over the weekend of "sowing the seeds of hatred and division," and compared his rallies to the "climate" created by segregationist Alabama Gov. George Wallace.

The Lewis statement came after supporters at McCain's rallies repeatedly yelled words like "socialist" and "terrorist" when the Republican candidate was discussing Obama.

But both campaigns seem to be making an effort to dial back negative rhetoric, or at least calm down their crowds.

Obama scolded his audience Monday in Toledo when they began booing at the very mention of McCain. "We don't need that," he said. "We just need to vote."

McCain corrected a woman Friday who said Obama is "an Arab," drawing boos from the crowd.

The Arizona senator, who objected to the Lewis statement, hasn't been taking questions from his audience since last week, and on Monday made no mention of 1960s radical William Ayers. His campaign has used Obama's ties to Ayers in recent weeks to question the Democratic candidate's character and judgment.

The charge did come up, however, when country music star Hank Williams Jr. played a warm-up act at a Palin rally in Richmond, Va., Monday. His song lyrics included reference to the "left-wing liberal media" and said the Republican running mates "don't have radical friends to whom their careers are linked."

Speaking in Rochester, N.H., Monday, Joe Biden criticized McCain for launching "new attacks" on Obama.

"John McCain wants to attack Barack Obama," Biden said. "Barack Obama wants to attack America's economic problems. It is that basic. It is that basic right now."

Democratic strategist Jehmu Greene said the offensive audience-member comments don't belong in the race on either side.

"There are fringe elements on all sides of the spectrum, and that's what we're seeing right now," she told FOX News.

But Chip Saltsman, former campaign manager for Mike Huckabee, told FOX News that Obama has not taken the steps McCain has to settle down his supporters and rein in bad behavior.

"Barack Obama needs to come out and say, 'My supporters should not do this'," he said.

FOX News' Mosheh Oinounou, Judson Berger and Bonney Kapp contributed to this report.

Thanks for the straw man.

BTW another Palin supporter screams "kill him!" about Obama, again, at a campaign event today. I guess the gOp can't stop the bloodlust.

Scranton Times:

 Quote:
Chris Hackett addressed the increasingly feisty crowd as they await the arrival of Gov. Palin.

Each time the Republican candidate for the seat in the 10th Congressional District mentioned Barack Obama the crowd booed loudly.

One man screamed "kill him!"

Supporters have been noted shouting “kill him,” “terrorist,” “off with his head” and other equally incendiary terms about Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. Others have directly suggested Mr. Obama is a Muslim, which he is not, or a traitor.

I touched on it a few days ago in that post I wrote about that odious terrorist Sean Hannity's show last Sunday, but the New York Times investigated as to exactly why you retards on the right seem to believe that Obama is a Muslim. It'd be quite funny actually if it wasn't so sad the depths of deception you guys on the right seem to allow yourselves to fall under.

i'll post the article soon.

Keith Olberman devoted another "Special Comment" to adress the McCain/Palin mob. Spot on except for the fact that this racist murderous extremist loony mob is actually helping Obama. So keep up the extreme right wing looniness.

Here's the transcript:

 Originally Posted By: transcript
The John McCain phony umbrage threat level is back to red. McCain supporters shout hateful, violent threats and incitements at McCain events. If you missed it, it happened before a Palin‘s speech in Pennsylvania today, and as usual, she said nothing to stop the fire.

And this is where the satire ends and the Special Comment begins—because this is not even remotely funny: 1:25 p.m. Eastern today in Scranton, Pennsylvania, during a warm-up act by a red meat congressional candidate aptly named Chris Hackett. Hackett mentions Obama and a Palin audience member shouts, “Kill him.”

And Governor Palin, as usual, does nothing about it, says nothing to those thugs and psychos. She may not have heard this one but it is impossible to believe that by now she has not heard about the other ones. Her silence is deafening.

Just that, Senator McCain, you have done nothing when violence has been asserted. Correction, you have done one thing, asked why in real-time you do not repudiate this hatefulness, you act is if you are its victim—speaking today to our NBC station in Washington.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MCCAIN: Sure. And I repudiated it, as I have on several occasions. And, unfortunately, Congressman John Lewis is an American hero who I admire. He made the most worst and utmost unacceptable statement a couple of days ago that I‘ve ever heard. He accused me and Sarah Palin of being involved with segregation, George Wallace, and even made reference to a church bombing where children were killed.

Senator Obama has not repudiated that statement. Senator Obama should do so immediately. It‘s the most outrageous thing that I‘ve heard since I‘ve been in politics which is a long time. It‘s disgraceful.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

OLBERMANN: Disgraceful? Obviously, senator, you haven‘t heard your own speeches or Governor Palin‘s and what people shout during them. And you haven‘t heard your state GOP chair in Virginia, Jeffrey Frederick, giving talking points to 30 of your field operatives heading out to canvas voters in the town of Gainesville with a reporter present, telling them to try to forge a connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden, to emphasize bombings and terrorism.

And you haven‘t heard those volunteers. Your volunteers, Senator McCain, shout back and, “He won‘t salute the flag, and we don‘t even know where Senator Obama was really born.”

Senator McCain, these people are speaking for you. And how dare you try to claim Congressman Lewis was linking you to Governor George Wallace‘s segregation. He was, in fact, linking you aptly, sir, to Governor George Wallace‘s lynch mob mentality “as public figures with the power to influence and persuade,” said Congressman Lewis. “Senator McCain and Governor Palin are playing with fire and if they are not careful that fire will consume us all.”

Senator McCain, your supporters at your events are calling Obama a “terrorist” and “traitor” and are calling for him to be killed, and yet you keep bringing back these same rabid right-wing nuts to deliberately stir these crowds into frenzies, and then, you take offense when somebody who remembers the violence of our political past calls you on it.

You, sir, are responsible for the pure acts (ph) of individuals who are shouting fire in a crowded theater.

There are some things to respect and honor about you, Senator McCain, but on this, you are not only a fraud, sir, but you are tacitly inciting lunatics to violence. If you want to, again, grandstand and suspend your campaign, here is your big chance, sir. Suspend your campaign now until you or somebody else gets some control over it. And it ceases to be a clear and present danger to the peace of this nation.

As usual, it's Olbermann who has been standing up to you thugs the strongest and loudest. Thank goodness your day is almost over.

THE Secret Service IS investigating another threat against Obama made at another Palin rally

Latest headline from Scranton Times-Tribune:

Breaking news: Secret Service investigating threat from Scranton Palin rally

Yes, that news should make Sarah Palin and her running mate, John McCain, very proud. They're really riling up their base to the point where the Secret Service has to again investigate a threat made by a Palin supporter:

 Quote:
The U.S. Secret Service is investigating a threatening remark directed at Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama during a political event in Scranton.

The agency followed up on a report in The Times-Tribune that a member of the crowd shouted, "Kill him!" after one mention of Mr. Obama's name during a rally Tuesday for Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

The remark came while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd at the Riverfront Sports Complex. There is no indication Mr. Hackett or Mrs. Palin, who took the stage a half-hour later, heard the remark.

He's Al Austin, he's a McCain finance cochair in Florida. Sending around jokes about murdering Obama and his wife Michelle. When does McCain put a stop to the murder comments, now that they're even coming from his own campaign?

Al Austin, a longtime, high-level Republican fundraiser from Tampa, today sent to his list of political contacts an e-mail containing a joke that refers to the assassination of Barack Obama.

When asked about the e-mail, Austin said it was a mistake and apologized and that he wouldn’t knowingly have circulated it. He said he planned to send an apology and retraction to the same e-mail list.

The joke concerns a group of schoolchildren discussing the definition of “tragedy” as opposed to “great loss” or “accident.” The punch line comes when one child says that if an airplane carrying Obama and his wife, Michelle, “was struck by a ‘friendly fire’ missile and blown to smithereens,” the event might be a tragedy “because it certainly wouldn’t be a great loss, and it probably wouldn’t be an accident either.”

Austin acknowledged sending the e-mail to his list of political contacts but said he forwarded it without fully reading it and didn’t know what it said. That list included at least two reporters.

According to the forwarding history on the e-mail, it had gone through at least two other individuals before being sent to Austin on Tuesday.

Austin, a prominent real estate developer long known as one of the state’s leading Republican campaign fundraisers, has served in recent years as finance chairman for both the national and state Republican parties.

Oh looky. it's the crypt keeper.

Democratic Rep. John Murtha said Wednesday his home base of western Pennsylvania is racist and that could reduce Barack Obama's victory margin in the state by 4 percentage points.

The 17-term Democratic congressman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in a story posted Wednesday on its Web site: "There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area."

Murtha said it has taken time for many Pennsylvania voters to come around to embracing a black presidential candidate, but that Obama should still win the state, though not in a runaway.

In a separate interview posted Wednesday on the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Web site, Murtha said Obama has a problem with voters' racial attitudes in western Pennsylvania that could trim his winning margin on Nov. 4.

The working-class region is a key battleground in Pennsylvania. The area is struggling economically, and has a high percentage of veterans and elderly voters. Murtha's district outside Pittsburgh encompasses Johnstown and many small towns once dominated by steel and coal.

Ah the crazy racist elderly, and Vets! If they don't vote Obama it's because they are racist. It couldn't be because the vets have sacrificed for this country and love it, or that the elderly have been around long enough to have seen this slight of hand trick before, nope it's clear they are racist.

I'm sure whomod will be all over Murtha for stirring racial tensions.

Really?

first of all, your allegation of 'war crimes' is pitiable at best. second, I object to your insensitive and racially-motivated use of such an emotionally-charged nomenclature as 'lynch mob'. very improper.

Opposing Views: Palin's Authenticity Drives Democrats to Distraction
The non-partisan Web site Opposing Views offers readers a look at all sides of the debate on a variety of issues. OV asked author and political activist Rob Nelson about the Sarah Palin phenomenon.

FOXNews.com

Thursday, October 16, 2008

What is it about Sarah Palin? She draws huge crowds and gushing support, while simultaneously inciting such wrath from others. Certainly all candidates draw criticism from those who oppose them, but with Palin it's reached a new level. She is attacked for every step she takes, and made fun of mercilessly. Even supposedly objective reporters -- particularly women -- all but mock Palin. (Watch Candy Crowley and Campbell Brown on CNN.)

Click here to read more Opposing Views.

I come from the Midwest, so I know what it's like to have a "funny" accent that people make fun of. And certainly many people confuse a Fargo-like dialect with stupidity. But the problem isn't Palin's voice. That's just an excuse. Nor is it her folksy style, even when she takes it a little over the top. The same for those who say it's about what she stands for or her lack of knowledge on certain issues.

With Palin, it's personal. I've heard people refer to her in the most derogatory ways, calling her a slut and even the C-word. That's like people using the N-word with reference to Obama. So is it a deep-seated misogyny from men and women that drives their hate? No. It's something far more visceral ... fear.

Palin scares people who don't like her politics because they see how compelling she is. And they can't stand it. Like most politicians, they don't understand what really inspires people. It's called being real. And that's what Sarah Palin is. She's real. She's who she says she is. She says what she believes about her ideas and her faith. She lives a real life, raises her family and still manages to be governor. Even Bill Clinton saw why people liked her. Clinton knows what a lot of his fellow Democrats don't. Authenticity is power. And while a few politicians can fake it, Americans are good at seeing through it. What Americans desperately want is not eloquent speeches, but leaders who they can believe.

What's wrong with that? Why do we think the best leaders must have the most experience in elected office? The best thing we could do is throw out every elected member of our national government and replace them with people who have never held national office, or any political office for that matter. I call it the Year of the National Enema. Now that's real change. As for Palin's adoring crowds -- it's not just about what she believes but who she is. Whether you agree with all her politics (and I don't), Sarah Palin is different. And that's a good thing.

An expert on Opposing Views, Rob Nelson co-founded "Lead ... or Leave," a twenty-something political campaign in the 1990s that became the largest political organization of younger Americans since the '60s. Having worked in the Clinton White House, Nelson has written "Revolution X: A Survival Guide for Our Generation" and "The Last Call: 10 Commonsense Solutions to America's Biggest Problems." He has a Stanford Law Degree.

But, Murtha's an elderly vet, himself...

  • In 1959, Murtha, then a captain, took command of the 34th Special Infantry Company, Marine Corps Reserves, in Johnstown. He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for service in the Vietnam War, serving from 1966 to 1967, serving as a battalion staff officer (S-2 Intelligence Section), receiving the Bronze Star with Valor device, two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He retired from the Reserves as a colonel in 1990, receiving the Navy Distinguished Service Medal.
yeah it just shows he has no loyalty when charged with being the hatchet man. glad you agree he is gutless.

No surprise there on the title. Reality is disturbing to right wingers. Hatred and division and a good healthy does of McCarthyism almost comes second nature.

I can now see why PJP gets all worked up about me being anti American if I dare so much as point out that Palin lied her ass off when she said she was cleared in troopergate. You fucks are getting pumped full of all this anyone who disagrees with the right wing is "anti-american" shit.

This election proved to me that the damage done by AM hate radio and FOX News has almost completely taken over the Republican Party to the point here it's now fringe loony central. Yesterday on hardball one of your lunatic right wing Representatives, Michelle Bachmann was on and spouting pure unadulterated hate for close to 10 minutes and casting aspersions on Democrats as being anti-American. Which echoes your charges PJP. That is the definition of extremism. Where any opposition is considered an enemy of the state.

This is why you guys need to lose this election. This is McCarthyism. This borders on fascism actually. And it's not isolated. This is what you guys here say, this is what AM hate radio spews daily an this is what FOX news encourages. And then they have the audacity to call themselves mainstream and the Democrats, Obama, "The left" the media" etc. etc., extremist, with a straight face too..

And as for the "elitists", you still need to explain to me how the guy with at least 7 houses and the heiress wife is the common man and the guy who has only one house, was raised by a single mother who at one point had to go on public assistance, just paid off his student loans and just recently made his money by writing books is the "elitist". It doesn't work, but that's ok, that's another common Republican talking point that they trot out election after election.

You'd think since the Obama camp is ready for all the gOp dirty tricks they employ over and over again, that you'd catch on by now as well.

Now of course Colin Powell endorsed Obama today. Wanna know what reasons he cited? Here's video and a transript, in case you still don't get it.

 Quote:
Q: Sir, what role did McCain's negativity play in your decision?

POWELL: It troubled me. You know, we have two wars. We have economic problems. We have health problems. We have education problems. We have infrastructure problems. We have problems around the world with our allies. And so those are the problems the American people wanted to hear about, not about Mr. Ayers, not about who is a Muslim and who's not a Muslim. Those kinds of images going out on al Jazeera are killing us around the world. And we have got to say to the world it doesn't make any difference who you are or what you are. If you're an American you're an American.

And this business of, for example, a congressman from Minnesota who's going around saying let's examine all congressmen to see who is pro-America or not pro-America. We have got to stop this kind of nonsense and pull ourselves together and remember that our great strength is in our unity and in our diversity. And so that really was driving me. And to focus on people like Mr. Ayers, these trivial issues for the purpose of suggesting that somehow Mr. Obama would have some kind of terrorists' inclinations, I thought that was over the top. It was beyond just good political fighting back and forth. I think it went beyond. And then to sort of throw in this subtle Muslim connection. You know, he's a Muslim and a terrorist. And it was taking root. And we can't judge our people and we can't hold our elections on that kind of basis. And so yes, that kind of negativity troubles me and the constant shifting of the argument.

I was troubled a couple of weeks ago when in the middle of the crisis the campaign said we're going to go negative and they announced it. We're going to go negative and attack his character through Bill Ayers. And now I guess the message this week is we're going to call him a socialist. Mr. Obama is now a socialist because he dares to suggest that maybe we ought to look at the tax structure that we have. Taxes are always a redistribution of money. Most of the taxes that are redistributed go back to those who pay it in roads and airports and hospitals and schools. And taxes are necessary for the common good. And there's nothing wrong with examining what our tax structure is or who should be paying more, who should be paying less. And for us to say that makes you a socialist I think is an unfortunate characterization that isn't accurate. And I don't want my taxes raised. I don't want anybody else's taxes raised. But I also want to see our infrastructure fixed. I don't want to have a $12 trillion national debt and I don't want to see an annual deficit that's over $500 billion heading toward a trillion. So how do we deal with all of this?

You guys are fucking yourselves with the sane part of America and you guys are so far gone to the loony extreme right that you can't even see it. So it's sort of rich when the crazies call anyone else not like them, the 'extremists". A majority of Americans, and now General Colin Powell vehemently disagree.

I wonder how your hate radio stations and FOX will try to spin Powells comments to pivot back to Obama hatred and baseless smears, where they're the most happy.

The right wing hatred continues:

Obama, with Star of David on his head, hanged in effigy

How interesting that the self-admitted racist, who also appears to be an anti-Semite, parroted John McCain's message about media bias. I just find it interesting that John McCain's and Sarah Palin's hate is now leading to not just threats against Obama's life, but what could be described as hate crimes against Jews. Then again, John McCain and Sarah Palin have a very troubling record of ties to anti-Semitism.

It's hard to beleive this was the party of Goldwater, Reagan, and Lincoln. You guys are soo far gone past ideas to just simple mob mentality.

To wit: McCain senior adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer on MSNBC today.

"As a proud resident of Oakton, Virginia, I can tell you that the Democrats have just come in from the District of Columbia and moved into northern Virginia," Pfotenhauer said, speaking of Democratic gains in that part of the state. "And that's really what you see there.

"But the rest of the state, 'real Virginia,' if you will, I think will be very responsive to Senator McCain’s message," she continued.

Somebody ought to tell Nancy that one of the McCain's many homes is in Northern Virginia - so I guess John McCain is somehow unAmerican too?

You crazed right wingers aern't going to be happy until you restart the Confederacy, i guess.

Just in case anyone is still wondering if these Republians are interested in doing anything but dividing us. Remember a few days ago, Sarah Palin made cracks about the parts of the country that aern't "Pro-America". That strongly implies that only red states or counties are "pro America" and anyone having a dissenting view from these crazies is of course "anti-American".

Joe McCain, John's brother referred to Arlington and Alexandria as "Communist country". This hatred, division, and extremism is what's most likely to make news, and help Team Obama drive up Democratic turnout in the battleground state.

I seriously doubt that the tone of you crazed lunatics is going to change since this is the stuff you feed on from FOX news and Rush Limbaugh. That only you guys are "pro-America and anyone not in agreement with you crazies is "anti-American". I read it here, I hear it in Palin speeches, I hear it in McCain crowds. It's the extremism and McCathyism that drives the gOP nowadays.

And you're losing more and more support from sane people because of it.

people they* disagree with are: communist, racist, crazed, desperate, mobs, un-american, divisive, confederacy-seeking, witch trialists, mccartyists, hate mongers.

in case you happen upon a history book sometime, you might discover that the confederacy was founded by members of the democrat party who were considered fairly mainstream.

\:lol\:Yeah a black man endorsing another black man is a HUGE surprise. Quite honestly if I was Black I'd vote for Obama no mater what to.

But incidentaly Colin Powell is one of the main reasons we went to war with Iraq. He was the man that sold it to America. The Obama campaign now has more in common with Bush than McCain.

i'd not realised that, I find it quite interesting, because over here it was reported thatPowell was the strongest anti-Iraq war voice int he Bush administration. I suppose we didn't get the "selling the war" stuff over here, we had Tony Blair doing it.

Powell was the administration official here who went to the UN and explained the whole "Iraq and weapons of mass destruction" argument.

Until he endorsed Obama, he was an anathema to the left, who considered him a sellout for doing so.

Now that he wisely chose to supplicate himself before the new regime he is back in their good graces.

You really didn't listen to the Meet the Press interview did you? While it's true that Powell was instrumental in selling this war to the UN and the American public, he himself , to quote him thought the intel he was presenting was "bullshit ("i'm not saying this, this is bullshit"" but did it anyway out of loyalty to the office of the President. He has since admitted that and shown remorse for misleading the American public into war.

Here was one instance where his own press detail tried to censor him for doing so.

and one where he said he was misled:

So I can see why he did so complete a break with the gOp. It's devolved into something dishonorable and in his words "narrow". It's essentially a groupthink McCarthyite mob now that wants to investigate people for being "UnAmerican" and tries to smear people with "associations' no matter how limited. This is the 1950's redux.

McCain has always been a pragmatist centrist Republican and was no friend to the neoconservatives who ginned up the evidence for war and relied on Ahmed Chalabi and his informant "curveball" for their bullshit intel. Powell clearly stated his many reasons for endorsing Obama including one fact i've harped on here these past few days, this move to the far extremist right by the Republican party to the exclusion of any dissenting or contrary opinions. You may want to see the ENTIRE Meet the Press segment from yesterday. He didn't leave any ambiguity as to his reasoning.

Now I thought that part where he mentions Muslims in general and that one Muslim Iraq war soldier that is buried at Arlington specifically was powerful. Powerful and necessary to say since you guys on the far right routinely go on spiels about how just being Muslim in general is some great crime.

The gOp is fucking themselves with their extremism. I'm happy to see it but i'm unhappy that it is happening in this country at all Where roughly 1/4 of this country is under the thrall of all this hate that the prty has devolved to. And that's not just whomod and liberal opinion. This is also being echoed by more and more Republicans who haven't drank the extremist right wing kool-Aid.

Here he is after the interview even further clarifying his reasoning. And he mentioned that crazed right wing Congresswoman who wants to investigate "unAmericanism" in Congress specifically that helped influence his decision to endorse Obama:

Pretty soon the gOp is just going to be a small mob of crazed people convinced that everyone is being brainwashed by the Muslims!

Exactly. According to your version of events, Powell went out and lied to the UN even though he thought what he was saying was "bullshit," but now that he's endorsed Obama all is forgiven by the fellow travelers of the coming regime.

Smart move on Powell's part, to curry favor in advance of the upcoming loyalty trials.

If anything, I wish Dick Cheney good health so he won't die and be the next William Casey. And I hope Powell has further many many more pangs of conscience in the coming years. We may yet put away all these war criminals.

The hatred continues! A bear was found shot in the head, buried under Obama signs

From the Citizen Times:

 Quote:
“It looked like it had been shot in the head as best we can tell. A couple of Obama campaign signs had been stapled together and stuck over its head,” [Tom] Johnson [Johnson, chief of university police] said....

“This is certainly unacceptable,” Johnson said. “Someone was wanting to draw attention to the election. If we find out who they are, we’ll make sure they’ll get some attention themselves.”

And then this from Politico:

McCain message getting through...

At some point, the Republican party had better accept how base its base really is. This guy is the face of the new Republican party, and he's the reason many of us left, and more are leaving, the GOP.

The hatred, base ignorance, stupid, and racist base of the gOp in full display.

Gotta love the bigoted ignorant gOp base!!

A New York Observer report from Florida tells a similar kind of story:

 Quote:
“I don’t believe these polls,” said America Blanca, a 44-year-old small business owner from Miami who wore a red dress and was visibly pumped up by the rally. “Not one of them. Because it’s the kids answering the polls on the computers. Their parents are not home and they are answering and they will not be voting. I think if he is losing, it is only by a little spread. Very little.” She held the tip of her pointer finger about two inches from the tip of her thumb.

Asked if her business made more than $250,000 a year, the cap under which Obama has proposed cutting taxes, she said it did. Told about Obama’s proposal, she answered, “I don’t give a shit. I will never vote for a black man.”

I half-expected to hear the same thing from "Joe the Plumber" last week when it was pointed out to him that he would actually get a tax cut under Obama's plan.

It's clear that the campaign to defeat Barack Obama -- which is what the McCain campaign has rapidly devolved into, ever since it became self-evident that McCain himself couldn't give us a single good reason to vote for him, beyond his moose-in-the-headlights running mate -- is in fact creating an environment in which these kinds of sentiments not only are encouraged, but are now considered normal.

McCain Volunteer Says She Was Mugged, Had 'B' Carved in Her Face

AP

Thursday, October 23, 2008

PITTSBURGH -- A woman robbed at knifepoint at a Pittsburgh ATM says her attacker knocked her down and carved a "B" in her face after noticing a John McCain sticker on her car.

Police say an officer saw the letter on the victim's cheek, but that she refused medical attention.

A police report does not describe the size or severity of the injury.

Authorities say the woman is from Texas, but aren't identifying her.

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richards says the woman was withdrawing money at 9 p.m. Wednesday when a man approached her from behind, put a knife to her neck and demanded money. She says she gave him $60.

The woman told police the robber then noticed the bumper sticker, punched her in the back of the head, knocked her down and then carved a "B" on the right side of her face.

this is indicative of the crazed DESPERATE RACIST GOP mob. This story was revealed to be a hoax.

According to Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard, Ashley Todd, 20, "indicated that she has prior mental problems and that she does not remember how the backward letter B got on her face."

"Barack Obama's local campaign team also issued well-wishes and said it hoped her assailant would be caught and brought to justice."

So, under the whomod standard, it isn't just McCain's judgement that's suspect.

Well, actually the fact that the McCain team "fell for it" may have something to do with the fact that they helped spread the story even as the police were still investigating and had no proof of the event ever happening.

Then they lied and said it was the police and not them who released that story to the press.

What a disgraceful way to end McCain's political career.

Effigy of Palin Hanging by Noose is Halloween Fun, Owner Says

 Quote:
Ghosts, goblins, gargoyles . . . and Sarah Palin hanging by a noose?

That's the latest imagery of the Republican vice presidential candidate and her running mate John McCain on display at a West Hollywood home that has been decorated for Halloween.

The outdoor decor features a mannequin dressed as Palin, wearing a red business suit, eyeglasses and brunette beehive wig, hanging by a noose off the chimney. Right above her, a devilish John McCain emerges from the chimney with paper flames surrounding him.

Some neighbors say it's just wrong to depict a vice presidential candidate that way.

Chad Michael Morisette, who lives in the house, told CBS 2 News that the effigy would be out of bounds at any other time of year, but it's within the spirit of Halloween.

"It should be seen as art, and as within the month of October. It's Halloween, it's time to be scary, it's time to be spooky," Morisette said.

Several locals and tour buses have swung by the house to snap photos of the scene, and some gawkers say it is humorous. Morisette acknowledged to FOX 11 news that had he depicted Barack Obama in the same scene, it would not have gone over as well, because the history of a hanged black man in America is a lot more intense than a hanged white woman.

FOX 11 reported that the scene may also have been a response to a false rumor that recently circulated in the area that drag queens were to be banned from dressing up as Palin for the annual West Hollywood Halloween carnival costume party on Santa Monica Boulevard. The drag race and pageant were held Sunday evening, and no costume was forbidden.

Good thing this isn't dressed to look like Obama. The guy would be in jail for a hate crime, and we'd have to pages of whomod, Perkins, and Pro talking about racism and John McCain's desperation. But since it's a woman I'm sure there will be no outrage.

this is why you can't say one side is dumber than the other. or more desperate than the other. or more socially insensitive, be it racially or sexually. or any term that outright labels millions of individuals within a single group. because both sides have dumb, racist, insensitive individuals. it is ridiculous to think otherwise.

remember, kids; everyone is bad.

for every person not voting for obama because he is black, there is another voting for him because he is. for every person not voting for palin/hillary because she's a she, there is another voting for her(s) because she is. there is no mass assumption labeling you can apply to another group that you can't turn on your own.
For every person voting for McCain because he is a patriot, there is someone voting for Obama because he is a socialist and so on....
For every person voting for Obama because he's not McBush, there is someone voting for McBush due to propaganda and fear...

And I never figured a smart guy like you would be a knee-jerk reactionary. Guess we're even...

Some McCain phone bankers quit after refusing to peddle low-brow Obama smears. It's nice to see at least some people in the McCain campaign still have standards.

From TPM:

 Quote:
Some three dozen workers at a telemarketing call center in Indiana walked off the job rather than read an incendiary McCain campaign script attacking Barack Obama, according to two workers at the center and one of their parents.

Nina Williams, a stay-at-home mom in Lake County, Indiana, tells us that her daughter recently called her from her job at the center, upset that she had been asked to read a script attacking Obama for being "dangerously weak on crime," "coddling criminals," and for voting against "protecting children from danger."

Williams' daughter told her that up to 40 of her co-workers had refused to read the script, and had left the call center after supervisors told them that they would have to either read the call or leave, Williams says. The call center is called Americall, and it's located in Hobart, IN.

It's admirable that some people still have a sense of morality, dignity, and fairness in this world. It's remarkable however that McCain has NOTHING left except to try peddle smear and fear in this last desperate week before the election.

Now he's pivoted from Obama is a celebrity, to Obama is a terrorist, to Obama is a socialist, to Obama is a Marxist to now finally, Obama is soft on crime. \:lol\:

One can almost see him in the corner frantically rifling thru the Rove/Atwater playbook for something ANYTHING to save his sorry ass.

If Rove was running his campaign he'd be up by 15 in the polls. In fact Axelrod who is the head of Obama's campaign said he tried to copy what Rove did right the past 2 elections. I don't like Axelrod but he ran a nice and seedy but sceretly seedy campaign against hillary and McCain and they may win now.

Barack Obama effigies turned up Wednesday on the University of Kentucky campus and in a front yard in Indiana, as federal authorities said they weren't investigating a Sarah Palin hanging-from-a-noose Halloween display in California as a hate crime.

Kentucky school officials in Lexington were trying to determine who hung a mannequin lookalike of Obama from a tree on campus, school spokesman Carl Nathe told The Associated Press. Police took the effigy down immediately.

In Clarksville, Ind., Kirk Deddo strung an Obama doll up by a noose from a tree on his lawn and called it a Halloween decoration, saying it was the most frightening one he could find, WNDA-TV in Indiana reported.

Click here to see images of the Obama and Palin effigies.

Deddo said the effigy had nothing to do with race, and he put it up because he doesn't like Obama's stance toward the military.

"Electing Obama as president would be the scariest thing in the world," he told the station.

University of Kentucky President Lee Todd told the AP that he will apologize to the Obama family on the university's behalf because he is "personally offended and deeply embarrassed by this disgusting episode."

The Kentucky incident marks the second time this week that an effigy of the Democratic presidential candidate has been discovered on a college campus.

George Fox University in Oregon announced that it would punish four students who admitted stringing up an Obama doll from a tree on school grounds.

News of the Obama effigies came as the FBI and police in Los Angeles said they aren't treating a Palin doll dangling from a noose in West Hollywood, Calif., as a hate crime because it was part of a Halloween display.

"I'm not defending this; I'm not criticizing it. It doesn't rise to the level of hate crime," L.A. County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told The Los Angeles Times. "Now, if there was a crime against bad taste ..."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Man the Obama supporters will go to any length to distract from their own atrocities...

Okay, I thought since the article you posted was about the rednecks in Kentucky hanging Obama effigies, that you were talking about them. I didn't realize you were harking back to the original article about the California guy (whomod?) and the Palin/McCain ones. I think creating these "Halloween decorations", for either side, is crossing a line. I also think, though, it's a non-story...
Of course you do, the Palin effigy was first. So it has already been declared by Olberman as a non story. It's too soon to call the Obama one a story.
Whatever you say, man. You're so bound and determined to see only one vision and read my words with only one mind, you're beyond the point of being able to have a rational discussion...

Now you're just making up things. When and where did I ever say I voted liberal? If you can see no shade of grey, and everyone must fall in line between the two parties, then I'm not the one that's single-minded here.

You believe being "rational" is voting for John McCain. Thus, the entire argument is null and void, my friend. Being rational doesn't automatically mean you cater to one party, or one side. There are plenty of things I don't like about Obama, or the Democratic party. But, this forum is at no loss for pro-Conservative/anti-Liberal posters. I don't sway to one side easily, is all...

Yes it was, Clinton entered office with an unemployment rate at 7.5 percent & in 1999 it was 4.2 percent. I want those policies back.
You know what else clinton did? He said everyone should own a home, even if they are too poor too afford one. Its a good thing we aren't dealing with the end result of that now.

He also let terrorists walk all over us. Its a good thing they left us alone once he left office.

So you want Obama to create about a million jobs at McDonald's and then allow them to be lost at the end of his term like Clinton did? Or are you still convinced that it was Clinton, and not the GOP congress, that motivated the surplus?
the .9% is Bush's fault?

btw if you followed the primary closely, Hillary said Obama's policies were dangerous and not like her and her husbands.

I give both credit for working together but it was something that I don't think would have happened with a republican president. It wasn't just jobs at Mcdonalds that were created while Clinton was in office, your just being retarded.
The only jobs produced under Clinton were minimum wage.

According to your cartoon perhaps but then again...

Jobless claims hold steady at elevated level

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment insurance did not change from last week, remaining at an elevated level that indicates weakness in the nation's economy.

The U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday that initial filings for state jobless benefits rested at a seasonally adjusted 479,000 for the week ended Oct. 25.

Economists surveyed by Briefing.com expected the number to fall to 473,000 from the initially reported 478,000. Last year, there were 332,000 Americans filing new unemployment claims.

The Labor Department reported that there were 7,400 unemployment claims related to the effects of Hurricane Ike in Texas, down from the 12,000 such claims last week.

Ian Shepherdson, economist at High Frequency Economics, had hoped the fading of the impact of Ike would allow unemployment claims to fall.

Shepherdson said the fact that claims held steady shows a labor market in decline.

"There can be no question that the labor market is deteriorating; the only issue is the speed of the decline and the eventual peak in unemployment," he wrote in a note.

He said the national unemployment rate could reach 8.5%. It currently stands at 6.1%.
