I hope McCain forces him to expose the truth about his joke of a tax plan. How most Americans will suffer under his tax plan. The Ayers stuff is fine people need to know he has shitty judgement but the tax stuff is more important.

On the Ayers stuff someone on Fox News gave a good way for him to bring it up and defuse the potential comeback by saying something like, "When I first got to the Senate I made a bad judgement call regarding Chrales Keating. I made a big mistake getting involved with him and I not only learned my lesson but I was very forthcoming with all investigations that followed. I also learned to never associate myself with bad people ever again and I made a career of fighting people like Keating ever since. You however Senator Hussein, have time and time again surrounded yourself with bad people, questionable people, and America haters. Not only have you never learned a lesson from your bad decisions.....you keep making them."
He should also talk about the fact that more than likely we are headed into a recession that might last awhile. He should note that the last 2 times the economy was like this and the Government raised taxes on corporations was Hoover which led to the Depression and Carter which led to the worst Stagflation this country has ever seen. Stagflation is when you have no growth at all but everything costs more because of inflation. That is where we will be headed with Hussein the Shit Stain.
I agree that McCain needs to get tough with Barack on the issues and not the Ayers stuff. Save that shit for the ads or stump speeches. And he needs to be specific. Obama's weak point is that he can't really talk in specifics.

That's exactly what he should do on this topic. But he should also mention Wright and ACORN when he does it.
He also need to appeal to dems and independents who are undecided by saying," you all know me and my record....this guy has no record at alland you don't know him at all... and what little record he does have is disturbing. He is not your typical democrat. All Obama is is a very good actor reading a script that is being fed to you by hollywood and liberal media. He is so far to the left he will send this country so far back with his wealth redistribution policies it may take decades to recover."
I watched PBS's special on both Barack and McCain last night. I laughed out loud thinking about how Barack had said that he'd never heard Wright's racist comments when the narrator of the special said that Obama had researched and studied every church in his area and their pastors before making his decision to join Trinity.
Glenn Beck did a funny bit this morning on the radio it was, basically, that Obama must be the unluckiest man in the America. Every time he makes a new friend that friend turns out either be a criminal, someone who hates America, or both and "poor" Barack never saw it coming.
Heh.
\:lol\:
glenn beck is hilarious.
Yeah, but I sort of feel sorry for the guy, what with the fact he'll be one of the first to be publicly executed under the new regime, right behind Limbaugh and Hannity.
and that kid from Joey.
Obama is a used car salesman.
McCain is coming across as a real guy with real feelings, while Obama is coming across as a programmed computer which occasionally is getting power interruptions.

Not that it really matters at this point. The center-left media already sold this election to Obama.

By the way, did anyone else notice Obama saying "I can handle criticism for the next three weeks." After that he'll start instituting the fairness doctrine and other censorship so he never has to hear criticism again.
\:lol\:
Um, that wasn't a joke, P.
\:\(
Um, Praise Allah?
"Senator Government" is a great name for Obama.
that was pretty funny.
Watch the leftists try to claim that's a badge of honor.

Overall, John McCain was much stronger tonight than in the earlier debates. Obama spent much more time on the defensive, and he didn't do particularly well.

Of course, the center-left media will now swoop in to tell us that it doesn't matter and that Obama is still the winner.
its cause hes black...
Every McCain answer starts with an attack on Obama. Every one. He sounds angry and really frustrated. There is such a stark difference between these candidates. One has a vision...and one really is a cranky old man who can only look backwards.

um every Hussein answer started with the past 8 years.
By "vision", whomod means that Obama believes in Stalin's five year plan.

well im not sure what you'll be doing there since uschi will be one my other ones...
The problem with whining about moving to Canada is that it's already a failed semi-socialist state being taken over by censorship and Muslims.

Except for Quebec, of course, which is the only place on earth the French successfully conquered.
I thought Obama won this one. McCain needed to go the attack route for this to help him but while I'm sure the voters in his camp cheered every attack, who he really needed to reach were those closer to the middle. I don't think he looked presidential tonight.
The "Partisans" v "Neutrals" on CNN...I'm looking at the line-up and not quite getting it. They start with the "partisan" desk, then go to the "neutral" desk. But the neutral desk has David Gergen and Campbell Brown.

Really? How's THAT work?

Gee. Never saw that coming.
yeah and the partisan republican hates mccain since mccain put him out of work. That Greek faggot used to be Romney's chief strategist.
This response is highly biased and emotionally driven. You have been warned.

A year ago I had no idea who I'd support more in this year's election. The more time passes, the more I support Obama/Biden and am against McCain/Palin. Tonight's debate is aggravating. Obama is making points, statements, arguments. McCain is (literally) pointing fingers, blaming, ignoring questions and making speeches and accusations. Where is he telling us WHAT he will do? It comes off as buzzwords, special phrases that prick up the ears of lazy republicans "NO TAXES!" "SPENDING FREEZE!" "JOE THE PLUMBER!" He's a sound-bite robot!

I support Obama because, well, I'm working class. My sister's daughter was kicked off indigent care because of Bush's medicaid cut. My sister had to cut her income to be able to get immunizations for her daughter. And we have it good, compared to most of the people we work with. Obama seems to be thinking long-term, past the next four years, past the next eight years. McCain seems to be thinking about only the next three weeks. A tax credit for companies that hire in America, to keep jobs from going overseas. I like his health care plans. I like his ideas for college dollar credit given to students that volunteer for community service. I like his NATO ideas about refocusing on American commerce.

GOD! Anyone listening to Obama (I'm looking at YOU, McCain) would understand that he ISN'T fucking over every American small business owner! Maybe a few Joe the Plumbers get the shit end, but the MAJORITY of America, the people that make 20-30k a year, the people that struggle, US, people kicked out of hospitals because they can't afford health coverage... what about us? LISTEN, OLD BASTARD! Just 'cause we're busy *working* and not turning out for your rallies, does NOT mean we don't matter. Presidents are supposed to represent the people. Not the people that agree with them, not the people that talk to them in person, but ALL the people.

I dom't like McCain very much, not the way he presents himself. I don't want that man representing me to the world. He accuses. I've noticed a trend in the Obama/Biden side of the debates -- they let the more benign accusations stand, and then, after McCain/Palin harp on the issue, eventually address it and have very solid reasoning behind it. For example, Obama voting "present" on the Bill for requiring life-saving care to newborns/failed abortions. And he explained very well just now - the Bill had no stipulation of exception for if the mother's life was endangered. It would be a violation of her constitutional rights. I support that kind of level-headed decision making. I like that Obama waits until the other candidate forces the issue and then offers a thought-out, logical response. McCain is so knee-jerk in his responses. If he can't handle something, he twists the words around into something unrecognizable. Like when Obama, upon prompting (from the moderator and McCain), mentioned the comments from the crowd at one of Palin's rallies, those being "Terrorist" and "Kill Him!" in reference to Senator Obama. McCain was saying how hurt he was about this third party associating the behavior with the Civil Rights era in America. He was hurt and offended. It reminded me of a time on break, outside of work, when a nutty old drunk man wandered up to my gal Kim and called her the n-word. Then he turned to another co-worker, Tim, and called him a n____-lover. Tim got angry, jumped out of his seat and yelled back, "HOW DARE YOU CALL ME THAT!" Kim, his co-worker, the woman he had been working with for over a year, got called a racial slur and he didn't care until he was "guilty by association." That's what McCain reminds me of in this debate.

Now, Obama's ideas about reforming education are critical. He supports a charter system. He recognizes that the American School System is failing, and recognizes that there must be a real change or the future of America is in the shitter. Education is power, education leads to knowledge and wisdom. McCain also supports school of choice. Obama stresses community service and the importance of parents. McCain is promoting more of the same, regarding college. Personally, I think there ought to be a severe shrinkage of the Teachers' Unions. Charter schools are, IMO, the strongest solution. If schools have to perform to succeed, the bad ones will close. The bad, lazy teachers will be fired. The schools that just graduate uneducated kids... they're going to lose their students to better schools. These rewards McCain crows about, they are NOTHING without holding the bad ones accountable as well.

Palin frightens me a bit. The people she's rialed up frighten me. I thought I could pretend those people didn't exist here. She frightens me and in a way I think she gives strong women a bad name. She's a bit of an idiot. Flighty. IMO.

As prompted by the moderator, the debates can be found online here:

Considering that I called the other debates between Obama & McCain ties I suppose you didn't.

Your usual partisan remarks on the other hand I did see coming ;\)
So, basically your reasons for supporting Obama come down to you believing his sound bites, even if they've already been proven false.
well Uschi I repsect how you feel but Me and Joe the Plumber are going to have to lay people off because of Obama. The economy is going to suffer terribly and there will be probably many years of stagflation where everything is going to cost a heck of alot more than it does now but no growth in income for everybody.
I don't respect how she feels. I might understand it, given her age and the fact that most people are being fooled by the center-left spin machine, but I can't respect it. Uschi is an intelligent person and she should be able to see through that crap. Some of it is really nonsensical.

We can disagree here. My mom's one of the Joe the Plumbers, built her business in the back yard (literally, her publishing house is in a barn behind her house). I don't particularly wish to argue specifics, though, since I know neither one of us will change our standpoints. Plus, I'm lazy.

She also said she would serve out her full Senate term and not run for President.

The Supreme Court is lifetime tenure and she has to know that, once Hussein gets in, she can't run for President again. Unless she wants to be the female Ted Kennedy and spend her life in the Senate, which I find unlikely, she has only one option left: SCotUS.

I would guess it's to far in the background for Hillary. She didn't win the primary but she showed that she's got a lot of support out there & that translates to some political clout. My guess is she's going to concentrate on using that to be a major player in the senate if Obama wins.

You could be right. However, that's the comparison I was drawing to Ted Kennedy. I just don't think she'd be happy with that, especially given that, under Senate tradition, she's still "just" the Junior Senator from New York.

The article I read where she "turned down" the court was not so much her saying she didn't want it, but more along the lines of "oh, I'm happy where I am and don't expect to be nominated." It wasn't a "if nominated I will not serve" sort of thing.

Actually, Obama ducked quite few questions and replaced answer with fillers.

McCain is repetitive, but to say his "robot" responses held no merit is stupid.

CBS's 'instant polls' showed Obama winning the debate; but when they talked to the group of undecided voters in their studio, most of those people said that McCain had won. I dunno. I felt McCain was stronger in this debate than Obama. Obama got flustered at the mention of Ayers and straight up lied. Not a nice, thought out slight of hand lie that he usually offers, but a solid 'that ain't nowhere near the truth' lie. Still nowhere near the specifics that I wanted on the issues, but Obama's BS about his tax plan and health care, which I still have no idea how he's going to pay for it, seemed a bit more transparent. I love McCain's line, "If you wanted to run against President Bush, you should have done it four years ago."

Oh, and, Uschi, McCain didn't just talk about rewarding good teachers. He also mentioned getting rid of the bad. Look at it this way, if McCain is president, Elisa is out of a job.

well think about it. you basically said 'all the smart people are voting for obama and if you're not then you're a big fat stupidhead'. more or less. saying voting for obama is automatically 'thinking for yourself' is about the same thing as those random gaggles of atheists calling themselves 'free-thought' groups. doesn't necessarily mean they're not telling the truth, but it almost always takes on a pejorative connotation - 'we think for ourselves and you don't' - ignoring the irony of using an us/them paradigm to defend one's own individuality.

that's the peril of intellectualism. vanity. people are so intent on defending their cerebral street cred that they'll follow the harvard herd(/stanford stampede/columbia crowd) wherever they go. it basically reduces the intelligentsia to another special-interest group in the left's back pocket, which I see both as a travesty and an intriguing little challenge. if you're honest with yourself, more often than not you and I and most everyone else tend to follow the herd on at least some political issues. so in the end, about all that's left of that particular argument is 'my herd is better than your herd'. most everything beyond that is a product of one's own narcissism. hence the mirror reference.

He's probably writing another long diatribe about how he hates black people.

When is McCain gonna go viral with this? After Obama said he had no other relationship with Acorn than when he represented them in court, I was expecting McCain to pull this out of his hat, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! McCain is too concerned with looking like a guy who can get by on platitudes.
Posted By: whomod Re: Obama/Biden 4 For 4!!!! - 2008-10-16 10:48 PM
So Obama won again and almost unanimously, everyone says that McCain FAILED to revive his sagging fortunes. All he managed to do was make himself look angry and rambling. he was like an old Model T attack machine, rambling incoherent right wing attacks, most of the time completely out of the context of the subject at hand, they'd come unexpectedly and jarringly, like if the rickety attack machine backfired or something.

Even the fOX news focus group called it for Obama. Of course FOX didn't release the actual numbers, but the real news outlets did:

From The New Republic. Look at the favorability ratings - they HATED McCain. Obama's favorability went from 42 before the debate to 72 after. McCain dropped from 54 before to 50 after. But then look at the unfavorable rating. Obama's unfavorables dropped from 42 to 22. McCain's, however, rose from 34 to 48. And, this was a focus grouped that was undecided, but started out leaning towards Mccain.

 Quote:
Stan Greenberg briefed reporters on his focus group of undecided voters in Colorado. He said the respondents felt Obama "won" and that the results were "more decisive than either of the last two." That's a reference to Greenberg's previous focus groups, which also came away preferring Obama.

The most striking result came on the favorability ratings. Although the focus group was officially undecided, it leaned towards McCain. Here were the favorability-unfavorability ratings for each candidate at the start:

McCain: 54 favorable / 34 unfavorable

Obama: 42 favorable / 42 unfavorable

Here's what the ratings looked like after the debate:

McCain: 50 favorable / 48 unfavorable

Obama: 72 favorable / 22 unfavorable

CNN Poll: Obama wins debate, 58-31

CBS Poll: Obama wins debate 53-22
Holy cow!!!!

Fifty-three percent of the uncommitted voters surveyed identified Democratic nominee Barack Obama as the winner of tonight's debate. Twenty-two percent said Republican rival John McCain won. Twenty-four percent saw the debate as a draw.

ABC News (George Stephanopoulos) McCain’s Best Debate, But Obama Still Won: During a fast-paced, spirited, and sometimes heated debate, McCain had his best debate, but Obama still won. WINNER: Obama.
STRATEGY: Obama: A McCain: A
STYLE: Obama: A McCain: A-
ACCURACY: Obama: B McCain: B

and here is the nights most damaging part for McCain:

TIME (Jim Poniewozik) Women Don’t Like It: Dial group report 2: Um, Sen. McCain, women don't like it when you put "health of the mother" in air quotes.

The LA Times concurs:

 Quote:
In a race in which millions of dollars have been spent for the votes of American women, McCain managed in a two-question segment to mock laws protecting a woman's right to sue for being paid less than a man, and the notion that late-term abortions should be allowed in cases where a mother's health is threatened.

"That's the extreme pro-abortion position -- quote, health," McCain said.

Early instant polls of voters gave the night to Obama.

the entire point of Sarah Palin was supposedly to get all those uncommitted Hillary voters. McCain there, tactical genius that he is, managed in 2 casual derisive swoops, to make launching a stupid crude right wing attack against Obama into a self inflicting wound that is going to cost him dearly among those women he thought Palin was going to attract.

Now to be fair to G-Man, who i'm sure is going to launch is usual tired attacks against the media and declare that McCain is there to save us all from high taxes (since we're ALL millionaires apparently), here's a poll that McCain actually won:

CNN POLL: Who spent more time attacking during the debate?

McCain – 80%
Obama – 7%

Good.

then McCain, tactical genius that he is, made his final impression on the American public:

Yes, this is the man who has the temperament and maturity to be President. Of course after that bit of stupidity, Obama joined his wife and they both exited the stage, McCain refused to hold his wife and then jumped ahead and left his wife behind to walk off herself. I found that a bit odd a way to cap off the evening...

don't worry. America will be there on Nov 4 to seal the deal.

half the blacks won't go....I guarantee it. Not even for a black President. I think it will be a close election....closer than the polls show. I won't be surprised if Mccain loses but I won't be surprised if he wins either. We shall see.

I also won't be shocked if Obama loses PA NY and NJ or some of them. Especially PA after what idiot Murtha did.

Actually I vote in every election as a matter of civic duty and I now walk my infant daughter with me to the polling precinct to instill the habit and tradition in her. Not that it really matters much with me in California. It's not like if McCain will win here under any circumstance.

I strongly disagree with you about "blacks" not showing up to vote. This thing has resonated strongly among all sectors of the black community, from what I've seen first hand. You're going to see unprecedented numbers of blacks, and pretty much anyone else, showing up to vote on November 4. Elections and politics suddenly became real and relevant and American Idol finally became the trivial trash it is, as the ratings for those 2 programs have shown since the economic crisis hit.

People are tuned in. And as has been discussed for years, the more involved the public is in voting, the more it favors Democrats. Which explains why the gOP go out of their way to depress turnout election after election.

TIME (Karen Tumulty): Obama seemed cool and collected, while McCain’s grimaces were painful to watch.

More reviews of the dead campaign walking:

Washington Post (E.J. Dionne)-McCain Deepens His Own Hole: The poll specifically asked voters if their opinion of McCain had changed for the better or for the worse in "the past couple of weeks." Only 7 percent said their view had changed in a positive direction; 21 percent said it had moved in a negative direction. Nearly a quarter of those who said their view of McCain had worsened cited his attacks on Obama as the reason for their change of heart; a fifth mentioned his selection of Palin. By contrast, 17 percent of voters said their view of Obama had improved; only 7 percent said it had worsened.

David Yepsen at the Des Moines Register (he's highly respected and a big deal):

 Quote:
John McCain lost the final debate of the 2008 presidential campaign Wednesday night. As a result, he may well have lost the election, too....

McCain simply needed a breakout performance and he failed to provide one. He went into the forum trailing Obama in polls of the contest and he came out of in the same position. By doing so, McCain missed his biggest remaining opportunity to change the direction of the presidential contest....

Conservatives will love McCain’s dwelling on his pro-life, anti-abortion stance. Obama, who is pro-choice, tried to reach out to the anti-abortion community by calling for more adoption.

That exchange was telling: McCain seemed more focused on firing up his base of conservative supporters, while Obama was trying to reach beyond his.
At this point in a general-election campaign, a candidate should have his or her “base” locked up and be going after undecided voters.

What you are saying is true. I also comend you for doing that with your daughter.....my Dad used to do the same thing with me. Your vote does make a difference. And you may be right about the blacks, but I will need to see it to believe it. There are a couple of things that make me think this is not over though. First, you say that people are tuned in and I agree but I disagree that if more people vote it favors dems. Yes there are more dems registered but many of them have never voted ever.....nor will they. Also people being tuned in also makes them pay really close attention to both candidates. The way you see Obama and the way I see McCain may not be the way about 15% of voters out there see either of them.

Second, Obama is polling about 49% right now in the polls nationally......but only 82% of the 49% are definitely going to vote for him. That is a gallup fact......so that means 18% may change their mind. Who knows. Bradley effect may have some effect but I am thinking it won't but who knows on that as well.

All I'm saying is I honestly don't think we'll know till late Tuesday night or early Wednesday.....and if Ohio is close and decides the election I would assume we would have a challenge ala 2000 and the dems will know how that feels.

But like I've said in the past I hope if Obama wins he governs somewhat for the center otherwise I may go out of business and the economy will suffere terribly.
Posted By: PJP Re: Obama/Biden 3 For 3!!!! - 2008-10-16 11:15 PM
oh and the debates don't mean shit.....Bush lost to Gore and Kerry and he did ok. McCain did well enough but not great. Obama is a very weak candidate with no record at all of anything saying the word change does nto magically make it happen. A good debater would have made Obama look very stupid. I felt there were at least 5 major opening last night that McCain just couldn't capitalize on.

Really? Please show me where I have insulted you? I might not love McCain, but I don't remember badmouthing him. However, I certainly don't remember ever insulting you, or basams. If I did, I would like to see an example. I will be happy to apologize, if so...

Please show me where I have quoted or posted anything from Keith "Lefty O'Reilly" Olberman. As I find him about as fair-and-balanced as the FOX Right-Wing Entertainment Channel, I would be very surprised that I suddenly used him as any example of anything. But, please show me and would be happy to consider what you are saying is true...

Heh. Nice try. It's not to do with the silly name, and more to do with the "being above that" and the rolly-eyes. I thought I detected adversarial tones...

Look, does anyone actually think any of these plans will come to fruition? With all the folks in the Legislative branch, I doubt much of any of these campaign promises would be fulfilled, regardless of the election winner.

And I agree about the "running against Bush" zinger. I loled.

p.s. why do people bother reading whomod's posts? talk about tl;dr!
