I actually looked up to Spitzer when he was the Attorney General, even though he is a Democrat. He came across as a straight shooter and did a good job.

He's been a shitty governor, however. Still, this is right out of left field.

he should resign simply since he is an incredible hypocrite and really is a shitty governor. (he was a good attorney general like G said) However, many experts are saying they think he will try to ride this out and see if he can survive the scandal. If he truly loves his wife and family he will resign and spare them the daily humiliation 24 hours news coverage. He seems like a douche that loves the power though and I can see him pulling a Larry Craig.

N.Y. Gov Set to Resign Over Call-Girl Allegations

Supposedly he is going to announce his resignation any minute now and is going to be indicted for human traffiking.

One thing that struck me when reading through the complaint is how much time Spitzer spent during work hours making calls to his pimp, dealing with his bank to try to withdraw the necessary funds, and mailing out envelopes of dough.

The second thing is that Client 9 (allegedly Spitzer) clearly, unambiguously had an ongoing relationship with this "agency." The complaint makes clear that the conversations back and forth explicitly mention past and future services as well. So this wasn't some momentary lapse.

I feel nothing but sympathy for Spitzer's kids and his wife. But this guy was incredibly arrogant to think he could get away with this.

BTW, I really surprised that those noted corruption fighters whomod, Adler and MEM haven't shown up to condemn this guy (the way, for example, WB and I did when Foley got busted).

Again, the issue is judgment. Being a superdelegate for Hillary shows poor poor judgement. Oh yeah, and soliciting hookers only compounds the evidence.

So you forgive the negative attributes of Bill Clinton for sexually soliciting the help (to the point of not seeing them as a negative), but you won't forgive Hillary Clinton (or Spitzer for that matter) for enlisting the support of someone who sexually solicits a prostitute.

At this point I'll believe it when I see it. This is the third day in a row that the press has said his resignation is imminent. Supposedly, his lawyers are working on a plea deal under which he'll resign to avoid jail time.

This whole thing is really stunning. This morning on the radio they interviewed both the local GOP chair and the local Democrat chair. The Democrat, if anything was more critical of Spitzer than her Republican counterpart. She was going on about how even his own party "never liked" him, that they thought he was a bully, etc. Real "rat deserting the ship" sort of talk.

I would pay whomod $899 a hour!

I forgive anyone that is truly repentant. That is the Christian way. The first step for Spitzer is to find the forgiveness of his wife and repair his marriage. Usually when I hear someone make a speech after allegations are brought, it makes me think they're just sorry they were caught and not truly sorry. Time though has a way of telling the truth of the matter. It doesn't make me want to instantly see his resignation just on the cheating alone. Now if he used public funds or resources to conduct the sexcapades, then that is another matter entirely and he should resign ASAP. But again, it speaks to his judgement more than his character IMO, although that too plays a part..

• in an apparent effort to evade federal regulations requiring that transactions involving $10,000 or more be disclosed to the government, Spitzer broke up the money into a series of smaller transfers on numerous occasions over at least a year, sources said.
  
  Despite that, Spitzer got worried that he could be tied to the transfers and asked the bank to remove his name from the transactions. The bank reportedly refused, not only because of regulations, but also because the money had already gone out.
  
  The unidentified bank then notified the Internal Revenue Service, as required by law, that Spitzer had sent more than $10,000 in a way that appeared designed to avoid disclosure requirements, the report said.
  
  A law-enforcement source told The Post yesterday that financial transactions are "the crux of the investigation" into Spitzer, and that federal probers do not yet know the full extent of his possible chicanery.
  
  "They've got to go through the money trails," the source said.
