I watched an episode of "Angel" today on TNT. A re-run, I'm assuming.

....it was awful. Guys walking around with horrible makeup, poorly executing fight scenes overemphasized by stupid sound effects, and that Boreanz guy is the only actor in the whole show with half a lick of talent.

How is it that this show is so damn popular?

I think he started in season Four. One through Three (the re-runs) I could barely watch myself. The newer stuff's much better.

Which season are the TNT reruns?

The show I saw involved this fundraising event for preventing child homelessness, where the bad guy was planning to steal money from the foundation or something. Angel said he had evidence showing what they were doing, but some chick didn't want him to expose them for fear that the children would lose the funding. The whole episode they fought about it as if it was some huge deal, then at the end it turns out Angel was bluffing, just to scare the bad guys.

...so stupid.

The show really got better last year. Previously I kept hoping they would get rid of Fred! Now I like her character quite a bit. So she's doomed

Good episode tonight. Nice twist at the end. I actually felt bad for Illyria.

Points of Interest

  • The Pussification of Spike: He's gotten too mushy. He's lost the "I'm-a-bastard-so-fuckin'-what-ya-wanker" edge.
  • Wes and Gunn: Fuckin' sweet. I was actually expecting his death by shotgun blast to the head, but a clean stab with a surgical instrument will suffice.
  • Weenie Servant Labrat: They finally kill him. Thank Cthulhu!
  • The other "Heroes": Buffy, Willow, Giles, etc. They've really become pricks. I knew there was a reason I didn't like BVS. Uppity self-righteous bastard assholes.
  • Illyria: She was never intimidating to me from the start. I mean c'mon. It's still Fred's body. I'm quaking in my boots. I'm sure they had other plans for her before the cancellation news, but I guess I'll just haveta wait n' see what's up with her. You know Wes'll be givin' it to her ancient blue daemon-style in two episodes time.

Angel calls England to find Willow . . . and ends up talking with Giles . . . and when Giles asks, "Are you still with Wolfram & Hart?" and Angel replies in the affirmative, Giles hangs up on him.

Oh, and Willow is doing the "Astral Projection" gig since she was there, but on another plane . . .

Illyria keeps coming back to the WR&H lab . . . a la her ties to Fred's memories as Fred was dying. And when she pulled that bit on Wesley (showed him that she got pieces of Fred's memory), man, that was low.

Illyria's old kingdom/palace . . . on another plane of existence . . . and the doorway was where? Yep, back at the hotel; only WR&H had locked the door. And we get another little tid bit that WR&H were around even in the "old times" when she says that they were no better or higher than the vampires back then.

Knox brings out these funky bones and puts them on the lobby floor and voila, you can "hear" the lock open and just as Illyria's about to open the doorway, there's Angel, Spike & Wesley.

Knox was exceedingly annoying tonight. Kinda like Renfield in Dracula. So, when Wesley shot him, I was like, "Yeah!"

After it's all said and done, and she sees that her kingdom is gone as is her army . . . she's not much of a demon. In fact, she says that she doesn't know how to fit in. Duh!!! And you know, for being an "old one" and a demon at that . . . she sure isn't all that sure of herself.

Spike says a big fight is coming . . . he can feel it and that he's sticking around for it.

Then, we see Wesley tell Illyria that he's going to help her get along in this existance, as long as she doesn't kill anyone.

Basically, he's only doing this because she looks and sounds like Fred.

Poor, poor Wesley . . . ruled by the "dumb stick" and the "dumb stick" is affecting his heart and his brain.

Hey, I've been thinking with my dumb stick the last five years, so imagine how much smarter I'd be if I turned on my brain!

I have a feeling Wes is gonna kill some more. Ya think he'll take Illyria to TX?

Great summary but I thought she placed them a little higher then the vamps.

Great show but this reminds me of when Wes stole Conner a couple of seasons ago. Betrayal & then redemption very much a recurring theme with Angel & Buffy. And yet I'm not bored with it.

Harmony has been getting some extra screen time. She seems to be getting nicer too! How weird is it that in many ways she comes off the most down to earth out of the gang?

That would be cool if she ended up with a soul. Hey, if everyone else gets a shot at redemption, Harmony should too! Can you tell I'm a Harmony fan? Considering Spike needed a chip in his head & Angel had the soul & 50 some yrs to feel guilty, it is kind of amazing that Harmony is able to "be good" for such a long time. Or even want to be.

Save 'Angel' Campaign Takes Flight
By Chris Gardner

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Angel" acolytes are nothing if not devoted, determined and organized.

Fans of Joss Whedon's soon-to-be-canceled WB Network drama series sprung into action last month once it became official that the spawn of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would get the big spike in May. The Save Angel postcards and full-page ads have been flowing into The Hollywood Reporter and other publications for weeks, but "Angel" fans distinguished themselves from past fan-fueled salvage initiatives last week by hiring (at $700 a day) a billboard truck to drive around Los Angeles and park at strategic locations (including THR's Wilshire Boulevard offices, Warner Bros. and the WB, Paramount, UPN, HBO and 20th Century Fox) for maximum impact and, of course, free media exposure. ("We will follow 'Angel' to hell . . . or another network," the billboard promises.)

Theresa Fortier, one of the instigators of the http://www.SavingAngel.org Web site, said the group has raised some $22,000 from several hundred donors in just a few weeks. The truck will cruise around for at least another week, and more print ads are likely to be placed.

"We've made it clear to (donors) that what we're doing wouldn't necessarily save the show, but if no one was gonna go broke, we'd appreciate whatever they could give," Fortier said. "We just want it known that we're concerned that the end seems near for quality TV drama. We don't want to lose the one last tie we have to the Joss Whedon universe."

Liked this week ep. I knew better but was still shocked to see the whole team get iced. Still can't believe Angel let the lady give her baby to the demons. There must be twist involved here IMHO. Also can't believe the gang didn't try to rescue Gun. Instead it's left to dead Fred to go save him.

Damn fine episode. No spoilers, but I won't lie- I had tears in my eyes during that last scene between Wesley & Illyria.

Show respect! Wesley's da man! Besides, he was the longest running character on the show aside from Angel hinself.

Favorite lines-

Angel: "People who don't care will never understand people who do."
Hamilton: "Yes, but we don't care."

Illyria: "Would you like me to lie to you know?"
Wes: "Yes, please."

Illyria: "I wish to do more violence."

Angel: "Personally, I want to slay the dragon."

I hate to say this, but I hated it.

Yes, I know Whedon has always said "self-enclosed" seasons. "Wrap each like it was the last". But still, besides the few great moments of the show, the ending was horrible.

Ending: OOOH SCARY. ZZZ. SO WHAT? During the last five years, Angel's tackled more than that on his OWN.

Yes, I know. "Each like it was the last". But I'm still bummed that the ONLY Sunnydale resident to visit during the last eps was ANDREW. Give me a break. Like Nic Brendon or Michelle T couldn't have *possibly* shown up. Busy schedules? uh huh.

Overall, an o.k. season, but the pacing was slow. It made that final episode feel rushed.
Hopefully we'll get a decent "Special Two-Hour Presentation" in the fall or something.

I will admit, Spike's poetry was a twist. The reference to "effugent". The Wes/Illyria scenes were priceless. If Greg Rucka could write Wonder Woman throwing a punch like she did there and showing some of that raw emotion, that title would sell.

I'll be happy when BTVS S:6 comes out Tuesday on dvd.

One of the few moments I liked about the finale was Lindsey and Eve's final make-out session. When Eve gets distracted about Angel, Lindsey makes a remark along the lines of: "At least Angel hasn't gotten his mitts on you." heh.

Wesley dying was a cop out. Fuckin' stupid. Kill Harmony! Lorne! Even Gunn! Not "Percy"!

I wanted to see Illyria in action... Gunn versus 20+ vamps and not bitten/dead? riiight... Hamilton turned into a throwaway vamp extra once Angel got a taste. Fake Agent Smith had all this experience and he gets his neck broken by a "young" 200-something year-old demon... Nice to see a non-angst ridden Connor... I wonder how the season would've ended it there was one more batch of 22 episodes guaranteed?

Yeah, it would've been nice to see . . . I'll be she would've kicked more booty than when Hamilton came to visit.

Actually...he was injured...and bleeding pretty badly. If he went into the fight (in the alley) he probably wouldn't make it or last very long.

Ehh, that's what happens when a vamp gets the spinach-version of blood . . . they go into hyper mode?

If we had gotten one more season, I doubt Conner and everyone else would've gotten their memories back.

Oh yeah! Another thing I liked was Lorne being the stone-cold motherfuckin' assassin.

"The flunkie?! I get killed by the flunkie?!"

I forgot, what did Lorne see when Lindsey sang to him before?

That's it? I thought I missed something from a previous episode or couple seasons back. I didn't really start watching until the middle of Season 4.

And that Spike line was priceless. I'm paraphrasing here: "I don't want to wear any amulets, pendants, charms, necklaces, bracelets or rings."

Loved it! Even better than Buffy's finale where Xander's ex-fiance's death ruined it for me. For such a downbeat ending, the "we're going to fight on" added the right amount of optimism for me. I figure they win, Wesley is indeed reunited with Fred in the after life. Heck, Faith even goes & gets a sole.

I hear that there might be a movie down the road but if not I thought this was an OK place to end.

TNT is also airing Angel twice a day. The 8 am slot is just starting the fifth season (Monday will be "Lineage") and the 5 pm slot has just started the fourth season (Monday will be "Slouching Toward Bethlehem").

I have to mention though, that TNT has a... weird way of showing the show. They seem to cut to commercials at the end of scenes that aren't meant to be the end of the segment and they show two segments end-to-end.

Um, it's kind of hard to explain but you know when it's obvious that the scene is meant to be the end of the segment (something like a character saying "No!" and then cut-to-black) and then the scene picks up again. It must be a weird timing/commercial thing on TNT...
