Okay, so these guys from the WHO (World Health Organization - half the band's dead now) come up to you and say 'We've decided to poll a random person to make a decision for us. We're on the threshold of curing several of the world's most troubling illnesses, but we can't decide which one to address. Right now we can only cure one. Ideas?'

I know, impossible situation. But what if it were up to you? If you could only cure one single illness in the world today, which one would you want to take away and why?

Note: 'cancer' is a blanket term referring to dozens of cancerous illnesses. If you're gonna go with this one, stick to one type. No easy answers.

go.

As tempting as it is to say "HIV," I'm going to go with Anthrax.

A terrorist can't spread HIV the way he could Anthrax.

Isn't Heart Disease just another blanket name?

What to cure...what to cure...?

Something very dangerous, with no real cure...perhaps something highly contagous? And, while I would say HIV, there is a very good way to avoid it, and whipe it out...

Yes there is.... My grandfather lived in a region of the world where over 75% of the poulation had the disease, but he maneged somehow to not contract it.

Isnt Anthrax bacterial, so would antibiotics work on it??? Im gonna have to go with HIV, thats a real epidemic, while the use of anthrax is miniscule compared to HIV, so you shouldnt even consider anthrax.

Anthrax is a bacterium, and has technically already been 'cured'. It's simply a very powerful bacterium, whose victims die because they are unable to receive the right antibiotics in time.

This was a tough call, but I'm gonna go with one of the cancers - whichever is the most prevalent and dangerous.

Alzheimer's is my runner-up.

Hmm. I wonder how he managed that?

Is stupidity a disease? 'Cause I'd like to cure that.

And with no stupidity in the world, we can have people smart enough to cure all the other diseases. Everything works out.

Not necessarily. Just because no one's stupid does it follow that anyone is smart enough to cure a disease.

Yes, but if there was no stupidity, more people would be intelligent enough to do well in school, go to college, and maybe become doctors/scientists, which means there will be more people around who can work together and figure out how to cure diseases.

And, to be fair, one of my favorite friends there is blind and I take every opportunity available to make fun of that and we're still friends. That guy never fit there. He never got the spirit of the RKMBs. We're gonna keep an eye on the obits, see if he finally left or if he really did have a heart attack.

But lack of stupidity doesn't mean being smart enough to graduate college or med school (or law school), it just means being well...average.
