The only way we're going to get further and further in space is to make it commercially viable. It may seem as though this is just another luxury for the rich to flaunt their wealth; but keep in mind that things such as the automobile, indoor plumbing, VCRs, and CDs were the exact same way too. If they can make a profit on this, no matter how small, it could very well spur other companies to pop up and do the same, jump starting a competition to attract the most customers and offer more luxuries and advancements.
