What did you think about Jamie Foxes best actor speech? I thought the part about his mom was very moving.

Million Dollar Baby for Best Director AND Best Movie?

Wow again.

Agreed. I was really glad that Hollywood didn't take the piss on this one. Scorsese may have been "owed" his Oscar, but Eastwood deserved to win. While The Aviator took home more statues, Million Dollar Baby took home the biggies, which made me very happy.

i love these award shows! i know im a loser but im obsessed with everything and anything celebrity related.

i thought chris rock was hilarious and laughed throughout the entire show.

i was semi disappointed with the in memoriam part. seemed rather short and just didnt seem as sad as it should with all the great ones that were lost this year.

I thought Sean Penn was an gigantic loser for his comment when presenting his award . Like how many people across america that watched the show rolled thier eyes at the same time. Gimme a break! I mean i dont get into the whole political thing and i dont like it when the actors try to make me believe what they want . But come on sean penn... lighten up! It was a joke about JUDE LAW!!

The part where chris rock went to the magic johnson theater was hilarious because like all those people i never saw any of the movies nominated. btw i never saw white chicks either I just made my picks by what ive heard about the films and what i know of the actors and their previous work!

Go morgan freeman!! This was for being over looked in Shawshank Redemption!

it was in the beginning monolgue where chris rock was saying and who is jude law? he's in like every movie ive seen this year. he was even listed in the credits of a movie for making cupcakes for the cast.

So sean penn got up there and was like im sorry to say to our host that jude law is one of the finest actors in our craft and for every one jude law theres 5 wonderful actresses. he's so damn stiff. like everything does not have to be sooooooo serious. People there laughed cuz it was a joke!

So chris rock came back after the commercial and was like sean penn my accountants want to talk to you after the show, and he continued with the show. And again the audience laughed! chris rock is awesome!

I like Clint Eastwood, but of the nominees, I thought Scorsese deserved Best Director the most. Visually, his was the better movie. I know cinematography is a different category(which Aviator won, incidentally), but I think the visual aspects is also largely the director's responsibility.

Not that it matters. It's all a sham. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was the best movie of the year as far as I'm concerned. It wasn't even a nominee for Best Picture.

Two black Oscar winners in one night! "Amazing!"

this was actually one of the leading headlines on some of the news reports. more specifically, "only the second time two of the top four spots went to african americans."

great, what a frickin honor. maybe they should get asterisks, too? bringing up the race breakdowns at this point in life is purdy sad. the only one who really cares is halle, who wins awards on behalf of all other black people. ... at least half of her does.

can't they just be two great actors who won? ... or... wait a second, can't they just be one kick ass actor who finally won, and another winner who did a really good impression and used t'be wanda on "in living color" ?

"i'm red t'go!"

scorsese shoulda won before, yeah. a few times perhaps.

but not this time.

i'm glad clint won this time around, though. in my mind, it "baby" did an overall better job, versus "aviator."

I completely agree. Why should everyone have to be labeled?

Another thing that bothered me was when Hillary Swank won the announcer said that her character was the first female boxer to be nominated. What was the point of that?

My problem with Penn, apart from his lack of any sense of humour was that he called Law "one of OUR finest actors".

Had no idea Penn was British...

Actually, I thought the "GAP" joke, though it went on a little long, was one of Rock's better ones.

Rock was just not on his game last night. And, while Penn is a humorless tool, Rock's continued-and sometimes mean-digs at the people who were there that night cast a pall over the event...and led to things like Penn's outburst.

OTOH, it's not all Rock's fault. I think he did the best he could for someone not at all appropriate for the job he was given.

There are really two types of comics: toastmasters and observational comics. The first are better hosts, letting the "guests" shine (see, eg, Carson or Crystal) the second are better storytellers who need to dominate the event and don't do well when they can't be themselves (See, eg, Letterman or Rock)

Furthermore, hiring a person who doesn't like an event to host that event is not really the way to make that event run well. Rock has made it clear he's not a fan of awards shows. And his performance last night demonstrate his unease with the format.

So, Rock, like Letterman, will go down as a poor choice for host.

I'm not. I think it's refreshing to have a host like Rock every once in a while. Carson and Crystal were both outstanding hosts, but even their style of "letting the 'guests' shine" gets tired after a while. Rock was the perfect choice for host, in my opinion, especially considering the layman's view of the awards of late. He said what a lot of people have been thinking, and made an awards show that wouldn't have garnered very much public interest on nominees alone interesting.

I'm a HUGE Chris Rock fan.......but I agree 100% with G-Man he was terrible.....he made me laugh a few times but he was way out of his league.....he should stick to VH1 or MTV .....I didn't like the digs at Bush mainly because it's a room full of Bush haters.....they don't need any encouraging they are already delusional. Somebody like Jon Stewart or Bill Maher or even Bill Cosby would make great hosts Rock is too young too angry and too vulgar for a show of this stature........and like I said I am a huge fan.....I have all his comedy DVDs ....it was just the wrong forum for him.

Chris was not good.

The whole telecast seemed rough around the edges.

I got these awards right:

Swank
Fox
Freeman (I felt confident that Alda's moment was getting the nom)
Blanchett (she was great as Kate Hepburn)
THE INCREDIBLES for Best Animated

But I thought THE AVIATOR would win Best Pic and that Marty would finally get his trophy for Direction.

Was Hoffman stoned during the Pic awarding at the end?

You have to wonder if Marty's thinking the same thing. I was convinced he'd get the statue for Direction.

I wonder if Marty's now thinking, "Well, I handed this honorary thing to Lumet tonight, and in 10 years, Tarrantino's gonna be handing one to me."

I was reading a piece in The Sunday Times in which Marty was making some rather disparaging comments about the awards. The Oscars are taken quite seriously and at times they do come across as a bit cliquey. I wonder if he hasn't alienated some of the people involved in the awards.

Not that it matters. Marty's made films that will still be watched, enjoyed and analysed long after many Oscar winners have been forgotten.
