I didn't see it. How bad was it?

One of the best screw ups I've seen was a Lions' touchdown last season that won them the game. I think it was against Chicago. That may have actually been a sympathy missed call.

It's sort of an ongoing thing between Jim(OSU fan) and me, that I've never let go because I'm stubborn.

I felt it's inclusion on the sporting list was surprising, since most of the other disgraces were far more publicized. They had Jeffrey Maier catching the flyball in the '96 ALCS, the 2002 Winter Olympics "skategate" thing with the French judge that was paid off by the Russian mafia, Dallas native Phil Luckett's Thanksgiving Day coin-toss screw up, Don Denkinger's calling of Jorge Orta safe in the 1985 World Series, etc.

I don't even remember the Ohio State/Miami controversy even being talked about much(at least nationally, I imagine it was probably a feature story in Miami, and maybe in certain parts of Ohio, too), despite the fact that Keith Jackson and his television crew all replayed it several times and clearly stated that it was a bad call. I hate Miami, and even I thought it was an obviously bad call.

What about the U.S. Men's Basketball team being robbed of their rightful win during the '72 ('76?) Olympics?

Um, it wasn't obviously a bad call. How about let's just get it right, OK? The contact was there, the ref thought about it, to make sure he got the call right. Isn't that what counts? Of course it is.

And you'll forgive me if I can't find the picture of Keith Jackson and Dan Fouts in the dictionary next to the entry for Oracle. Whoa, Nellie, but even Keith Jackson ain't perfect.

I thought it was an obviously bad call. Apparently, so did the Fox Sports' team of researches that decide the Sports List, all the celebrities/sports media people interviewed for the show, Keith Jackson, imperfect as he is(not that I ever suggested otherwise), and Summer Sanders, whose opinions are very firm and round and good.

Not that I really give a shit since I don't like hockey but,

How 'bout Brett Hull being in the crease when he scored the goal to win the Stanley Cup for Dallas against the Sabres in whatever year it was they played for the Stanley Cup.

Absolutely the worst non-call I've ever seen in sports with so much on the line.

Oderint, dum metuant.

Roy Jones Jr. getting screwed out of a gold medal in the Olympics. I'm still pissed over that one.

Hm....I think this falls into the "tough shit" category.

Do you think there was no contact?

Fox wants to use that call because it's recent and because it was in the championship game. And it's not like the game ended on that call. In fact, Miami had the chance to tie the game in the last overtime and failed.

Not only was it a non-call, the league released a new interpretaion of the rule (which has since been removed) to support the goal, and claimed that even though it wasn't interpreted that way all season, it should have been, and it was the correct interpretation, thus the goal was good.

It was 1999.

That wasn't nearly as bad, a lot of the seperation came from Russell's own momentum. Pushoffs like that happen all the time.

Besides, referees almost always let the teams' play when it's a last shot situation. You don't want a game decided by a whistle. That's the way it should be.

My argument to that has always been that that's a bad approach to take. If there are refs and umps, they're there for a reason. And they're there for the whole game.

What if your team's got the lead in the bottom of the 9th and Eric Gagne's your closer. You want the Ump to stop calling strikes, letting it go down only to swings? That's wrong. And you know it.

I think when the game's on the line, they should let the teams play. That doesn't mean they should be allowed to maul each other, but having ticky-tack fouls decide championship games is ridiculous.

I don't think that's a fitting analogy. Baseball is set-up a lot differently than basketball.

In slow mo, Denkinger's call is clearly wrong. Don's seen the tape and admitted it and apologized. But in his defense, it was a bang-bang play.

But it ain't like it came in Game 7. It was in Game 6.

That photo doesn't look too bad, but I'm sure it doesn't do the play justice.

That Randy Johnson play is horrific. Damn.

Anyone ever see when a ref got in Joe Horn's way during a big passing play?

I guess Horn was going for a deep pass, and the ref couldn't get out of Horn's way, and Horn flattened him in the end zone. Cost him an easy TD and everything.

Panthers/Saints game, back when George Siefert still had a job(2001, I believe)?

I didn't remember who the receiver was, just that it was probably the only thing that went the Panthers way all season.

That Johnson clip is incredible. One moment you see a pitch, you see a bird, and then POOF! It's gone!

That deoderant commercial he did playing dodgeball comes to mind.
