You're welcome.

The trailer itself didn't impress me too much, but the supporting cast did.

Even though I don't care for the book as much as I did when I reviewed it, I'm still excited about the movie because of whose in it. McKellan and Molina will make this movie.

McKellan, Molina, and Reno will do nothing but help this movie. Does anyone know who the gal is? I haven't hit IMDB yet...

I haven't read Da Vinci yet, but I just read Angels and Demons. My sister just read both. Everyone we've asked so far liked A&D better than DaVinci... I wonder why?

Angels and Demons was a much better book. The only really bad part was the craptacular ending, which no one liked.

Another book I've never read, and another trailer that doesn't grab me.

I think the reason this and the Goblet trailer do nothing for me is because they're designed that way. The people behind these movies know that people are already hyped. The less they show us now, the better.

    Code Reveals Bettany
    Silas has been cast.

May 27, 2005 - Variety reports that Paul Bettany will reunite with his A Beautiful Mind director Ron Howard for the latter's next project, the big-screen adaptation of Dan Brown's best-selling The Da Vinci Code.

The trade claims Bettany will portray the villainous albino Silas. The character has become controversial, with many groups protesting the depiction of an albino as evil.

Bettany's credits include Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Wimbledon and A Knight's Tale.

The Da Vinci Code begins filming next month for a May 2006 release. Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno and Alfred Molina star.

By the time this film comes out, I expect the Nazi Inquisitor Pope to denounce the film and excommunicate any Catholic who dares see this movie.

Besides the controversy generated in religious circles about this book and forthcoming film, there isn't particularly anything about the Da Vinci Code that makes it special. It lifts much of its material straight out of Holy Blood, Holy Grail, and as a mystery it's quite average. I also liked Angels & Demons better than this book, but it nevertheless clinched for me the fact that Dan Brown is a hack writer. Yeah, the ending was crappy, but the way Brown kept on assuming his readers are IDIOTS and explaining everything long after such explanations were necessary was incredible frustrating. Definitely not great literature.

I could have sworn that I heard that Brit actor Christopher Eccleston has been cast as the albino. Maybe he's in another role altogether, I don't know.

I've never read the book, and, frankly, I don't really care one way or another. However, as a Hanks film, I'll at least give it a passing glance...

Waitaminnit! There are actually groupS all up in arms about...lemme see if I read it right...an ALBINO BEING DEPICTED AS EVIL??? Did these assfucks read the fucking book? The fucking character was albino! Where were these bored fucks when the book was HUGELY popular and EVERYONE was talking about it???

Some people need to be locked in their houses. Seriously. Sometimes this "human interraction" shit can be dangerous. Remember the good old days when people DIDN'T protest everything that came along? Between the Roman Catholics who can't understand a work of FICTION, and these idiots, I wanna see the movie just so I can laugh at these fucking dolts when they protest it.

Church fights Da Vinci Code novel

The Roman Catholic Church in Italy has spoken out against what it says are "shameful and unfounded lies" in the best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code.
Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Archbishop of Genoa, broke the church's official silence on the controversial book.

Its story about the Church suppressing the "truth" that Jesus had a child with Mary Magdalene has convinced many fans.

But the cardinal's spokesman denied reports that the clergyman was asked by the Vatican to hit back at the book.

Carlo Arcolao told the BBC's News website that it had been the cardinal's own decision to make a public statement about the book.

Mr Arcolao confirmed that the cardinal told an Italian newspaper: "It astonishes and worries me that so many people believe these lies."

The archbishop told Il Giornale: "The book is everywhere. There is a very real risk that many people who read it will believe that the fables it contains are true."

The Da Vinci Code has made author Dan Brown a household name
The book's publishers Random House were unavailable for comment.

The Da Vinci Code, by US author Dan Brown, has been a publishing sensation around the world and is still in best-seller lists.

The Da Vinci Code has made author Dan Brown a household name

Its conspiracy theories and thriller style, in which two code-breakers try to track down the truth behind the Holy Grail, have caught the imaginations of millions.

Its central claim is that the Holy Grail is really the bloodline descended from Jesus and Mary Magdalene - which the Church is supposed to have covered up, along with the female role in Christianity.

Brown has previously said: "All of the art, architecture, secret rituals, secret societies, all of that is historical fact."

'Unmask lies'

On Wednesday, Cardinal Bertone will host a seminar called Storia Senza Storia (Story Without History) to rebut the claims.

He said he wanted "to unmask the lies" so readers could see how "shameful and unfounded" the book was.

The cardinal has been deputy to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the man known as "the Pope's enforcer" and a possible successor to the pontiff.

As well as the original novel, published in 2003, another 10 books have been written to debunk its claims and a booming tourist industry has sprung up around its sites.

It is also being turned into a film starring Tom Hanks, Jean Reno and Audrey Tautou. Publisher Transworld was unavailable for comment.

Because the sad but true fact is that people are generally stupid, and after reading the book will assume it's fact. This explains the 5,634 different 'secrets of...' books to accompany the novel. The logic that makes people believe in the 'facts' of the novel is identical to the logic behind much of the Catholic doctrine (grain of truth, magnified and twisted beyond all recognition)....so of course they're scared.

HWat I find funny about all the fuss and controversy and idiots taking it as gospel is that the book never asserts the Christ's lineage stuff as fact, it's just a believe held by some characters.

The first real trailer. I'm impressed. Looks like its going to be very faithful to the book. Tom Hanks is still wrong for Langston, but other than that, it looks really good.

Churches prepare to rebut 'DaVinci'

Area churches are preparing to counter unorthodox claims about Jesus Christ in the movie "The Da Vinci Code," which opens in theaters later this month.

Dan Brown wrote the best-selling novel, "The Da Vinci Code," published in 2003. Its film adaptation, directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks, will premiere in theaters May 19.

The fast-paced, fictional novel reads like a giant Christian conspiracy theory, with a plot built on claims that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, that they had a daughter named Sarah and that their bloodline still exists.

The book also states early Christians never claimed Christ was divine and that the Catholic Church has covered up such information. Though the book is a work of fiction, those statements and Mr. Brown's claim in the prologue that certain details in the book are authentic have alarmed area clergy.

The book and upcoming film have triggered a far different response from organized religion than that created by the 2004 release of "The Passion of the Christ," Mel Gibson's version of Christ's crucifixion, which prompted some churches to rent out theaters and hold special screenings of the R-rated film.

This time, churches are educating their members about how to respond to the story, but there is little encouragement to go see the movie.

Web sites hosted by the Catholic bishops group and Campus Crusade are dedicated to addressing aspects of Mr. Brown's book, including questions regarding Renaissance art, biblical texts and the origins of the Holy Grail.

Concerns about the book and film have even arisen in schools. The Rev. Terry Specht, a priest in the Diocese of Arlington, recently told about 70 students in a special chapel session at Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax that the book's descriptions of church history and artwork are grossly inaccurate.

"The danger is so many Christians are so ill-informed in Scriptures and history that they take what is said without any consequences," said Father Specht, who earned a master's degree in church history. "I see it as an opportunity. It's not a bad thing to have these things talked about."

'Da Vinci' Exceeds Expectations

The Da Vinci Code made $30 million last night in the United States on its opening, exceeding expectations of a worn out Columbia Pictures.

This means a possible $90 million weekend, which is what this column predicted to several Columbia execs in the last few days. But they were so disappointed by media reaction to the film that they'd all but revised down to a $60 million weekend at best.

But readers of The Da Vinci Code are rabid, and it seemed likely to this reporter that they'd go in droves to see their favorite book envisioned on screen. My guess is they will tell their friends to go too. The media reaction to Da Vinci was an aberration, and how it happened may yet be analyzed in marketing meetings for all the wrong things it manifested.

Saw Da Vinci Code at work yesterday.

It was alright. I thought to Acting was ok. Ian Mckellan Stole the show in my opinion. The Story was predictable. But all in all it didn't down right suck. It wasn't great but it wasn't horrible.

Besides how can something be horrible that has the catholic churchs nut's in a twist.
