Farmers in the UK say the term “couch potato” unfairly maligns their fair veggie and are demanding that it be excised from the Oxford English Dictionary, reports the Times of London.
The British Potato Council wants the expression stripped from the dictionary and replaced with the more spud-friendly "couch slouch." They say the current phrase makes the vegetable seem unhealthy and is bad for its image.
"The potato has had its knocks in the past. Of course it is not the Oxford English Dictionary’s fault, but we want to use another term than couch potato because potatoes are inherently healthy," says Kathryn Race, head of marketing for the council.
