Knight Rider, a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. Michael Knight, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law. When a young detective, Michael Long, is ambushed in a failed police stake out, he is believed to have been killed. In reality, he revives and learns that his face has been altered and his identity has been changed to Micheal Knight. The person responsible for this is Wilton Knight, a dying billionare who, convinced that one man can make a difference, has selected Micheal for the role as a crime-fighter. Now armed with a advanced car called KITT which has the equivalent armor of a battle tank, capable of speeds over 300 MPH and contains an artificial intelligence computer personality as an aide, Micheal agrees to perform his assigned role. Ok, with yet more news of a movie, I thought it might be fun to update and cast a Knight Rider movie. So let me hear how you'd make a Knight Rider movie. What style would you take? What kind of story would you tell? How would it differ/mirror the original show? Keep in mind the main characters for the series. Michael Knight: Loner ex-cop given the ultimate toy, a super car.
Devon Miles: The new head of Knight Industries who continues to carry on his friend's, Wilton Knight, crusade against injustice.
Bonnie Barstow: The female "Q" of the outfit. She designed KITT, keeps him running, and constantly is adding new inventions to help out in the fight against crime.
K.I.T.T.: The Knight Industries Two-Thousand. A badass car capable of fantastic speeds, killer jumps, as well as driving itself, analyzing forensic data, and sentient thought. Not to mention that he's virtually indestrucible. Keep in mind that you not only have to cast the voice of KITT, but you also have to decide what kind of car will be used.

I pretty much ignore the last season of Knight Rider. If it makes you feel better, you can turn any of the characters black.

Glen Larson had a good concept when he started Knight Rider that I'd like to keep. It's a modern western with a little sci-fi edge. Michael Knight is the wandering cowboy who helps the common folk rise above thier dispair. There was also a theme of the Foundation for Law and Government going after those too powerful to be handled by regular law enforcement. Considering the current political climate, I think going after crooked businessmen and government officials is just as likely to resonate with an audience as it did twenty years ago. Just as the cowboys of old protected the small farmers and ranchers from the cattle barons and railroad tycoons.  Michael Long: The loner detective who is betrayed, shot, and left for dead. I cast Ben Affleck for no other reason than I want to see him get shot in the face.
 Michael Knight: Rescued from death and surgically altered, Michael Knight rises up to hunt down those who tried to kill him as well as become the centerpiece to continue Wilton Knight's crusade for justice. Though I wasn't a big fan of the Punisher film, I do think Thomas Jane has the right stuff to be Michael Knight. He kind of comes off as a Christopher Lambert with acting ability.
 Devon Miles: The man who had joined his best friend and mentor's crusade is now in charge of keeping the dream alive. Bill Duke has that presence that I'd want for an updated Devon. He's been cast in roles the past few years that allow him to be presented as both intimidating and dignified. That's how I think Devon should be. He's all smiles and handshakes; but when you try to pressure him, he's not going to take your shit. He's in control. He has his finger on the pulse of F.L.A.G. and Knight Industries. He's the king who puts his knight into play.
 Wilton Knight: On his death bed, Wilton Knight taps Michael Long to become the one to carry on his dream for justice and law for all of it's citizens by taking on the powerful and corrupt. Paul Newman being Wilton Knight will be one old cowboy passing the torch to the new generation.
 - Bonnie Barstow: As I said, the female "Q". Dina Meyer has the tomboy attitude with the hotchick look.
 Tanya Walker: The woman who stole Michael Long's heart, and then tried to take his life. Cate Blanchett is seductive and cunning enough to be the mastermind of a band of criminals who are used to living the high life and willing to do whatever it takes to stay on top.
 K.I.T.T. (voice) Okay, who here can sound as technical as a machine, yet still show some compassion as well as ego? Leonard Nimoy, bitch! That's who! The logical one who keeps Michael in check, analyzes all the imperical data, as well as has enough sentience to feel neglect and be a little full of himself.
And every knight needs his steed. Since Michael Knight isn't James Bond, he needs and American automobile. I chose the Ford GT:

I think it would be fun if they brought in the Hoff to play Michael Long and change him over to the new actor.

I agree to a point. KITT should have a body that closely resembles the Trans AM from the show, but it doesn't have to be an exact replica. There must be an American made car that looks something like it today. And I also think the car should have some "Bond" car built in features, like a hidden rocket booster, spikes for traction, and few other small gadgets. I liked the idea of morphing the car for Super Persuit, but I can see how most people would not, however I do think the spoiler should adjust to the speed of the car. And of course, there has to be the red light on the nose.

For the sequel, I'd go with:  Garthe Knight: The long lost son of Wilton Knight. Believed dead, Garthe actually was imprisoned in an African jail for nearly a decade. Edward Norton would convincingly portray the black sheep of the Knight family. He's come back to get revenge on the father that left him to rot in prison. With his father dead, Garthe takes his anger out on the Legacy his old man left behind as well as eliminate the man he feels took his place in his father's eyes. He does this by stealing:
 K.A.R.R.: The Knight Automated Roving Robot was a prototype whose programing leaned more towards self preservation than protecting the innocent. Seen as a failure, it is deactivated. Instead of being dismantled, it is placed in storage and forgotten. Reactivated by Garthe Knight, K.A.R.R. helps in the obsession of destroying the organization that tossed him aside as well as his replacement.
 Voiced by Peter Weller.
Gone is the doppleganger bullshit that Garthe and K.A.R.R. served in series. Make them different. Make them stand out. And make them a threat.

I'd have a hard time believing an '82 Trans Am as being advanced technology in a 2006 movie.

That's a Saab concept car. I wanted K.I.T.T. to be all American. The Trans Am actually held a place in the American culture back in the 80's. Outside of the Ford Mustang (which the Shelby GT500 was in the running), the Ford GT is really the only one carrying it on. The Camero is just a concept which might never see production, and the Charger and GTO look nothing like a good sports car anymore. And the Viper has been used and played out, in my opinion.

My first instinct was to go for someone like Michael Caine, but your choice makes a lot of sense.
I actually loathe changing the race or sex of a character in translation, but I would go with this.

Norton and Welling as Garthe and KARR is fucking inspired!   I had forgot about those lamoids...  I picked Browder because, after having seen SG1, and currently introducing myself to Farscape, he plays the 'common man cowboy' so very, very well. He can go serious, or funny, in the span of seconds. And let's face it....Michael Knight is a character that shouldn't take himself too seriously. He's got talking car, for fucks sake. I picked Don Warrington because of his voice ('Rassilon' from Zagreus). That and he's British...like old Devon. "Devon". That's such a cool name. Anyway, I also dig Dina Meyers. She's hottness!  But, after Starship Troopers, I have less love for her acting. Plus, I just want Amanda Peet to get nekkid again. I love Nimoy. However, for me, I hear him and I automatically hear "Spock". No more, no less. Sad, I know. I chose Ewan McGregor because of his momma's-boy-voice, and I know he and Browder could play very easily off of each other. As for the car, I know little to nothing about car types, and their specs. I just chose the McLaren cause it's pretty, and, because I know it'll haul ass...

I thought of Michael Caine first too, which is why I didn't choose him. He's the obvious choice and used way too often in this role. Bill Duke is the fucking man. He kicks ass. I generally don't care about the race of a character as long as the actor is good for the part or the character's race is an important part of his/her identity. It's like when they made Morgan Freeman Red in Shawshank. The character was originally Irish, but Freeman was perfect for the part.

I just remembered the cheesey doppleganger episodes for both Michael and K.I.T.T. that were laughable. Apparently, even Hasselhoff hated the Garthe bit and refused to do it after the second time they used him. I just thought it'd be fun to play on those concepts and have something that is the opposite of the main characters. I'd see Garthe as more of a suit and tie, vintage wine sipping counter to Michael's cowboy and K.A.R.R. being the sleek European design compared to the K.I.T.T. American muscle car look.

The gadgets are a given. They've used retractable spike wheels and the like on the show. I think it's only common sense for the producers to transfer it over (but the sad thing about common sense is that it's not so common, especially in Hollywood). Also, from what I understand, the Super Persuit Mode flaps only helped on acceleration. The Trans Am was already built for speeds of 300mph. It was unneccessary gayness.

Perfect! Refresh my memory....wasn't Garthe in a big super-semi at one point? I remember he and Michael went into a collison course in the desert, and the semi plowed KITT over. Or something. Am I confusing that with something else?

Goliath, I think, was the semi's name. I thought about using it, but thought K.A.R.R. would be more appropriate as his and Garthe's story are so similar. Better to put it all out there at once than drag it out over several movies.

Couldn't Goliath be the semi that Garth uses to "reaquire" K.A.R.R.? It adds to the opposites in that K.I.T.T.'s semi is just a transport, but Goliath is a weapon.

I like the choices of Ben Bowder and Ed Norton, but they'd have to change the Michael/Garth story to suit. The way it's written in the show, they'd have to be played by the same person or twins...or Knight Industries would have to suck at reconstructive surgery.

Had an idea for a teaser trailer ...
PAN UP to a MAN in a room
MAN: Face it, I look pretty good for a dead guy.
CUT TO the MAN walking down a corridor. He's talking as he's heading somewhere.
MAN: Got shot in the face and left for dead in the desert. Some of my old girlfriends would say that would have been an improvement.
Then this ... this group picks me up. Saves my life. Gives me a new face and new ID.
There's a price. They want me to go after bad guys. Bad guys who are too big for the cops, the Feds. People who deserve to be taken down, but are considered untouchable.
Would have been kinder to leave me in the desert.
The MAN exits the corridor and into a large, deserted warehouse.
MAN: They want one dead guy to do what every other cop and agency in this country can't.
He heads towards a large sportscar parked smack bang in the middle of the warehouse.
MAN: At least there's one good thing about this
The MAN sits on the hood of the car
MAN: I won't be doing this alone.
The front of the car LIGHTS UP with a famaliar LED, going back and forth.

AICN: - At this time, there are actually two KNIGHT RIDER projects ramping up: Larson/TWC’s movie, as well as NBC’s revamping/backdoor pilot. And, fans are once again being asked to chose which flavor they prefer - the creator’s, or the interpreter’s?
Can these projects co-exist? Or, must one fall so that the other may stand? Would their coexistence be too much for even the Geekiest to bear, and cause a complete erasure in some matter/anti-matter apocalypse?
What is it about Larson projects? They tend to generate such confusion and fervor. Anyone out there remember efforts to bring back GALACTICA (before SciFi Channel’s current iteration)? We had Todd Moyer's IMAX GALACTICA project, Richard Hatch's efforts to revive the original series, and Tom DeSanto & Bryan Singer's scuttled GALACTICA revival. Am I missing one?
Guess too much interest is better than no interest at all. And, in the end, this is a;; rather impressive. Clearly, no matter how high concept his creations may be (there’s also a FALL GUY movie in the wind, by the way), Larson's material clearly taps into something fun…and base. How many storytellers have managed to do this successfully? And, how many still have multiple properties in high demand decades after their inception? Something to think about.
