Yeah, I can't imagine myself going back to a Blockbuster once I stop working there. The only good thing is I get to rent movies for free before they come out, not that it's helped lately with the stuff that's been coming out.

That sounds no less "evil" than blockbuster.

I really don't get why people rent old movies for 4-6 bucks when they can own them for ten bucks or less.

Because not everyone wants to waste four additional dollars to purchase a movie they will only watch once.

There's also the environmental factor. A rented movie is a form of recycling. The same product (and its components) are used over and over again. A purchased movie does not have that going for it.

Netflix was started by surviving Nazis after World War II. They're raising money to clone a new body for Hitler's still-living brain.

Coupla my boys used to work for a local vidostore. Cockluster bought it out and turned it into the vile cesspool it is today. It was run by some sleeze bag guido lookin motherfuckers. Overnight it was turned from a decent hometown business to that soulsucking shitstain atrocity. Not to rub it in, heh but Im sure you can attest to our allegations.

aye.

i just love the machine that is business. years ago, blockbuster rolled through towns, completely dominating the market and eliminating the competition. coldly or intelligently, whatever, they did it.

it was the down fall of video/rental business as we all knew it, bringing about a whole new empire, thought to be indestructable.

then netflix comes along and smashes the fuck out of it, doing the same thing to blockbuster that blockbuster did to others.

and im sure in another 10 or so years, "netflix" will be the horrible memory.

very interesting.

If you have a Hastings in your area, that's where I give my business. After a day after return to store credit my new rentals go at $2.50 and the catalog movies end up at $1.50. I burn them to keep while still giving a dollar or two to the entertainment industry and the business providing the rental service while multiplying my home library. I accomplish this without giving 1 red cent to Ballbusters. I did Netflix, while I enjoyed their service, I actually found my current method more flexible as I live right down the street from my Hastings.

If you take the letters in "Netflix" rearrange them, change and eliminate some of them and add a few other words you get "join us and pledge your eternal loyalty to Satan". Coincidence? I think not.

Yes, however, rex set forth a concrete vision of how it would become obsolete, which vision I tend to concur in.

In a few years almost every form of media will be distributed online or from some kiosk at the store (its already being done with PSP movies at Target). Everything will be on some harddrive in your cable box, MP3 player or video game console. This is already happening with music, and is catching on with movies. Video games will be the next format to cross over, and then the fuckers at DC and Marvel will finally get their shit together and start distributing comics over the internet.

Why they don't offer a cheaper electronic version to coincide with the print release is beyond me.

Especially since you could then buy the TPB at full price if the story arc was good enough to keep your interest.

You could even "subscribe" and have the issue (or link to download the issue) in your email!

And a program like CDisplay could easily be altered to have a small nag for advertising purposes.

I mean... seriously, what's the hold up here?

In terms of comic books, given the prevalence and diminishing price of flash animation, I wonder if flash animation won't render comic books wholly obselete in any medium.

That may be true, but at the moment there's nothing to keep Marvel and DC from making money online NOW.

It's Mind boggling why neither (or Dark Horse or Image) has tried to get the jump on that.

I suspect the issue is that it wouldn't be profitable enough to have to renegotiate the contracts with the writers, artists, etc.

Dave might have a better handle on this.

I doubt that, G-Man.

The money they're losing now that a simple uTorrent download allows me to read Eternals and Shadowpact without the gamble of paying 3 bucks for them should be enough to look into whatever they need to do.
