I haven't had a chance to talk to him about yet. My mom did, but not for long. He doesn't really know if he has to go or not. I'm praying he doesn't have to.

I'm real sorry to hear that.
My family was in a similar situation a while back and although it only amounted to about a few months stay, it was hard on everybody every single day.

My best friend went to Baghdad. Another buddy was there too but moved around a lot. Both came home safely. My cousin is currently in Korea. If your brother goes may he have a safe time there.

Thanks, everyone. Y'know, it's funny that Jeremy mentions his brother in Korea; when my brother was in the Army full-time, he was stationed in Korea as well. Picked me up a SWEET Fat Albert short-sleeved shirt. Coolest goddamned shirt I owned. He said he saw it in a store there, and thought of how we used to watch it together as kids.

My brother's most dangerous assignment? Hawaii. It was there that he was injured in the line of duty. He managed to drive a golf cart over his own foot. My family still gets a kick out of that....

Well, I'm not sorry that anyone is called to serve in the military service for which they voluntarily enlisted. But regardless, I hope things go well for him and he returns safely. The number of casualties have gone down considerably in the last two months, so it should be a safer tour at this point. I like this site, that tracks various statistics, including monthly casualties, and accompanying articles regarding the latest military news from Iraq:

I hope the best for your brother and family. My brother was worried when the war first broke out because he was still within the timeframe that the Army could recall him to active duty, and he had two kids with another one on the way at the time. It might help you to know that Camp Shelby down here is a deployment center. My job put me in contact with a lot of the guys down there. They've all done a tour or two in Iraq and Afghanistan and have all come back alright.

I remember when there were like NO casualties in Iraq. Like that entire first year we were there. Then all of a sudden the craziest thing happened...THE CASUALTIES WENT UP. Can you believe that? Things going up and down up and down. Fortunetly though the casualties can't POSSIBLY because our trustworthy president says so.
Oh wait...nevermind he's the same asshole who declared the operation was over 4 years ago.
