By "I have a fetus," what I really mean is seven fetuses. And my sister has them. Next, we had a pregnant cat that the owner could not afford anything. Dr Doust CHIPped an xray and we could not count all the kittens. She said 7, I said 9...but she was so full of kittens we could not be sure. Melanie adopted the cat from the owner and we went in for a c-section within an hour. We were unsure if she was actually ready to have the babies, but she was in a bad way and they had to come out. So we did a quick spay and sliced open the uterus outside of the surgery suite. We saw a bunch of preemie kittens, 7 of which were at an age that we could potentially rescusitate them. So we tried. It took 20 minutes, and a lot of dopram and epi, but the 7 kittens were aroused. We were all satisfied but I wanted to see what was left in the uterus. So after we cleaned up I sat down and started opening baby sacs. Now, when I worked for an ER in denver, we once did a c-section where no kittens were viable. One was a fully formed head (fur, eyes and everything) but nothing else. Other kittens were sacs of goo. I was hoping to find something equally cool. I kinda did. This momma cat had seven more kittens inside, each at different stages of development. This means she had fourteen kittens total in her uterus. Michelle (receptionist) took a picture (but she left out the most developed one). I will post it here.  Isn't that totally awesome? I put them in formaldyhide so I can put them in specimen jars later and have them forever and ever. Can you imagine?!?! What a frickin HO-cat! I think the 2nd and 3rd from the right bottom are the same age, but the others were all different sizes with all different features. Number 4 from the bottom has claws already. Numbers 1,2,and 3 are all practically 2-dimensional. They are 'flat' kittens, and number 4 on have more skeletal structure. The possibilities of this to teach my kids are amazing.
