Guardian/ Hornblower (aka Mal Duncan) also went by the name of Herald for a time. He is currently a member of the Doom Patrol under the name Vox.

He became The Guardian when he lost his horn. Heh. Actually, no. It went more like this. He originally-in the late 60s- was just "Mal," as in, no superhero name. They might well have called him "the Token," however, as he had no purpose with the team other than being the streetwise black sidekick to Robin, Wonder Girl, et al. When the Titans had their first revival in the mid-70s, the writers showed him finding Jim Harper's old costume hanging in Speedy's closest (apparently Speedy and the original Guardian were related). So, for one or two issues, he became the new Guardian. However, apparently, someone at DC figured out that the Guardian was still supposedly running around Cadmus/Metropolis so they needed to find a new name. This led to him getting the magicial horn and becoming "Hornblower."

Actually, you're both correct... and incorrect.
In the 1976 TEEN TITANS revival, Mal Duncan uses a modified Guardian costume, putting an exoskeleton from a Robin backup story in BATMAN #192 under it -- some teenager named Frank Reynolds helped Robin out with this exoskeleton, which he borrowed from his inventor father.
Mal was the new Guardian for only one issue before becoming the Hornblower in the next issue after being given the magical horn of Gabriel. He was the Hornblower for five issues, and then he lost his magical horn.
So he became the new Guardian again for the rest of the Teen Titans run, which was four issues. He also appeared as the new Guardian in a SUPERMAN FAMILY story that showed Roy Harper (Speedy) meeting his uncle Jim Harper (Guardian).
