Not sure if you guys get this English gameshow, which is basically about how clever Stephen Fry is and how dumb his comedian contestants are.

If you don't know who Fry is, then you'd recognise him as the general from from Blackadder series 4, Mycroft Holmes from the recent Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movies (the ones with Robert Downey Jr), and from various documentaries.

"Qi" means "Quite interesting", and Fry takes the panel on a journey thorugh quoite interesting facts from science and history.

I like Fry, and I like the subject matter of the show, but for some reason Fry comes across as just slightly condescending, and it irritates the crap out of me. It would be better if he was just plain abusive, so at least viewers would recognise it as being a comedy.

I have no idea where you get that opinion, as everyone I know who watches it loves the fact that Fry, despite his high intelligence, is always so happy to learn new things, and if anyone tells him something new, he looks like he has just been given the keys to the kingdom.
The guy is just so nice that hardly anyone dislikes him. And when he does insult someone, its so well put that its funny as fuck and there is no comeback from it, which is surprising as none of his insults have any malice to them.

Nah. I don't see this at all. I do like him. I think he's a nice chap.

But he comes across as ever so slightly snide. The alarm bells when someone gets somethign wrong and its preduicted that someone will get the wrong answer accentuates that.

Anyway. It is a good show. I've enjoyed some of the biology subjects - an area I don't know mcuh about.

Nope, still dont get what you are saying.
The whole point of the game is to be interesting and not fall into the obvious traps. The alarms have nothing to do with Fry as he didnt invent the show.
There is absolutely nothing snide or condescending about Fry, and the simple fact is they put Alan Davies on the show as a comic foil for Fry, with Frys high intelligence balanced against Davies over acted stupidity.
The only time the show gets annoying is when you get someone like John Sessions who has to prove he knows everything, and gets mocked for being boring, and rightly so.
