http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/12/amazing-spider-man-2-first-trailer/That's a big line-up of villains, looking at the trailer. Electro, Green Goblin, the Rhino, something which looked like Dr Octopus' arms in the Oscorp vault... Emma Stone is a tremendous actress, and its quite amazing that she is doing a superhero movie.

Why is it amazing that the girl who starred in "Zombieland" would be in a superhero movie?

Why is it amazing that the girl who starred in "Zombieland" would be in a superhero movie? Especially when you consider that other amazing actors like Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Christian Bale and Downey Jr have all done super hero movies. Plus Stone has made a career out of lighter movies anyway.

http://movies.yahoo.com/news/sony-sets-spider-man-spinoffs-franchise-brain-trust-081905447.html Sony Pictures Entertainment, in association with Marvel Entertainment, announced it will make movies on Spidey villains Venom and The Sinister Six. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, and Drew Goddard to collaborate on overseeing the developing story over several films that will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. This was announced via the tucked away ElectroArrives.com, Spider-Man 2 related website. Spider-Man reboot 1 & 2 director Marc Webb will join the five scribes and two producers in what Sony is terming “a franchise brain trust to expand the universe for the brand and to develop a continuous tone and thread throughout the films.”
...
Besides Spider-Man 3, which is expected to come out on June 10, 2016, there is a Kurtzman-directed Venom and a Drew Goddard-directed Sinister Six in the offing. Kurtzman, Orci and Solomon will pen the screenplay for the former starring the black suited anti-Spider-man baddie played by Topher Grace in 2007′s Spider-Man 3. Goddard will write and likely helm the latter, which features a coterie of the franchise bad guys. “Until now, we have approached each film as a separate, self-contained entity, but with this move, we have the opportunity to grow the franchise by looking to the future as we develop a continuous arc for the story,” said Columbia boss Doug Belgrad in a statement tonight with Hannah Minghella, president of Production for the studio. One way or another, looks like Peter Parker and his pals just got very busy for the long haul. It eases Sony’s burden of providing direct Spidey sequels, and follows Fox’s move to diversify its X-Men universe in the same way. This protects billion dollar franchises from reverting back to Marvel, and rival studio Disney.

Box office: - Troubling news for Sony arrive this weekend with the news that "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" fell 59% in its second weekend. The franchise will accumulate a total of $148 million by Monday, but is showing signs of under-performing. With a production and promotion budget that nudges close to $400 million, Spidey will need to gross at least $750 million worldwide just to break even.
Compared to its predecessor, ASM2, is almost $35 million behind where ASM was after 7 days, $110 million compared to $145 million. After 7 days Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy sat at $151 million, $192 million, and $182 million, respectively. And that was without the added windfall of 3D and Imax ticketing.
Sony has bet big on a franchise that is running out of gas. ASM3 is already greenlit and a side-franchise based on a number of Spider-Man villains has already been announced.
Unfortunately, audiences seem to be getting tired of something they feel they have seen too many times before.
i haven't seen it, I don't know if its any good and acknowledge that box office isn't a indicator of quality. At the same time, I can't help but wonder if some of the disappointment at the box office isn't because these movies are basically remakes/rehashes of films that aren't that old and many people may already have on disc. I really think SONY should have just recast Peter and MJ and done new films, instead of "reimagining" the origin and the stuff with the Green Goblin."

It's supposed to be a spin-off for more properties for Sony, and that might show through just as it did with Spider-man 3, which could be a big reason for a big opener and subsequent downturn.

Spider-Man 3 killed the franchise for me. The first Amazing wasn't terrible but it also wasn't very good and it was too soon after 3 and still had the taint of the third. I'll probably wait until it comes out on Bluray and borrow it from my brother like I did the first one. Gwen Stacy dies at the end and Spider-Man cries. There. I just saved everybody $10.
Spoiler.

I'm with G-Man on this one. I didn't bother with the first Amazing Spider-Man (even though I have already watched it, in bits and pieces through HBO) because I'm not interested in another origin story, especially since the Maguire one already did it well. Amazing changed it a bit, but it's not enough to justify a new origin movie.
I also prefer the Maguire film simply because it looks better. There's more daytime scenes. Spider-Man's red and blue costume looks better in action during the day than at night. I think they tried to make Amazing look like a Batman film, which is why it's always so dark and green. The third Maguire film was also shit and looked bad because they kept fighting at night. Cuz Venom be black, brah.
