Pornographic audio blares over loudspeakers in California Target

CAMPBELL, Calif. (KUTV) - Pornographic audio blared across the speakers of a Bay Area, California Target store on Wednesday and went viral on social media in a matter of hours.

A concerned mother recorded it and posted the audio, and described the scenario on Facebook and YouTube. The video has seen more than 575,000 views on her Facebook page and more than 650,000 views on YouTube.

Gina Young says she was shopping with her children at a Target in Campbell, California when pornographic audio started playing over the store's intercom system for about 15 minutes.

"What is going on at Target right now?" Young can be heard saying in the cell phone video she recorded during the store's public relations nightmare.

"Employees ran all around the store picking up and hanging up the stores phones. Finally it worked ... but [only] for about two minutes, then it came back on," she wrote on her YouTube post of the video.

Young said people's reactions varied from throwing store items and walking out of the store to others taking it out on and yelling at Target employees.

She also said some laughed at the audio and others were disgusted. Strangers offered to help cover Young's twins' ears.

After realizing it wasn't going to end, she took her children and left the store.

"When I was walking out the doors I could still hear porn," Young wrote on her Facebook page. "It was dirty too, very explicit foul language. I can never look at Target the same again."

According to the Minnesota newspaper The Star Tribune, Target is looking into the intercom incident to find out how it happened and to make sure it won't happen again. The company did not go into detail about how it could have happened.

"We are actively reviewing the situation with the team to better understand what happened and to help ensure this doesn't happen again," Molly Snyder, spokeswoman for the Minneapolis-based retailer, told The Star Tribune on Thursday. "Because this is an active investigation, I'm unable to share additional details, but we want our guests to know that we take this very seriously."

This isn't the first time a Target in California has been invaded with offensive audio over the loudspeakers. According to The Star Tribune, the same thing happened in July at a Target in San Luis Obispo in southern California.
