if you could give one creator (or creative staff team) COMPLETE control over the dcu or the marvel universe, who would you select?

notta oneshot, notta summer special... im talkin major reprecussions, permanent ownership, could-infact-make-superman-a-cow sorta power (of course, until the next guys take over)

... and should anyone be able to take that kinda control over the universe?

Geoff Johns.

James Robinson would be a close second choice.

izzat an insult or an offer?

besides, dini definitly is the best creator in comics. he perfectly characterized well over 30 characters in the batman mythos, and another 30+ in superman's world.

thats pretty damn good.

I'm actually inclined to agree with Kamphausen here. Anyone who can put "Dark Knight Returns" into a cartoon is worthy of control of the DCU...

James Robinson is another good one. I particularly enjoyed the multiple characterization in "Golden Age" and have heard all sorts of good stuff about his long-standing run on Starman.

he'd just make himself superman.

paul dini is, hands down, the choice, but, for runners up, id say jeph loeb or greg rucka.

It's a coin toss between Alan Moore and Grant Morrison.

Although I'm leaning towards Morrision cuz' Moore doesn't seem the type to put up with the derivative shit from the industry.

Peter David. I never read his stuff before 2003, then I got into Young Justice and Supergirl and ended up tracking down every issue of Hulk, Aquaman, Captain Marvel, and every other DC/Marvel title he's done.
Besides being a great writer who (and I know some people heavily disagree on this) never loses his touch with a title, he's has a great open dialogue with his fans on his website and doesn't mind answering questions (from people like me) about work he did 10 years ago.

That's very true. Plus, he believe, like I do, that comics could benefit from taking a more manga-like story structure.

I don't know that any one person should be given total control over it all, but certainly Moore, Morrison, and David are smart enough that they would be able to address the actual problems in the industry ala sales, distribution, etc.

I have a few picks. Morrison's a good choice, as is Paul Dini. Some other picks would be Mark Waid, Joss Whedon, and Kevin Smith.

A more interesting question would be who absolutely SHOULD NOT have control over Marvel or DCU. Some picks for THAT list would be Chris Claremont, Chuck Austen, Denny O'Neill (the old bastard, just die already), Jay Faeber, and John Byrne.

Christopher Priest would be my number one choice, this would result in something relevant I guess.John Ostrander, as he has demonstrated great respect for the creations of others, maybe Morrison, David, Johns, Robinson.I must say I kinda like the idea of one man running the whole game...

...except if it is that fanboy whore Bendis, cause he sucks!!!

More choices for who should NOT have control: Chuck Austen, Judd Winnick, and I second Bendis not being allowed control.

Michael Avon Oeming-Anyone who turned the last 6 issues of Thor into one of the BEST Thor stories ever & made Beta Ray Bill more than "another Thor" gets my vote to take a crack at ruling the entire Marvel Universe.
