Reports that Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in the Superman/Batman sequel to "Man Of Steel" are getting as much online buzz as the earlier announcement that Ben Affleck would play Batman in the highly anticipated film.
Cranston, 57, as Superman's arch nemesis is also drawing more cheers than the news that Affleck will play the caped crusader alongside Henry Cavill's Superman.
It's believed that the "Breaking Bad" star has brokered a deal to appear as Luthor in at least six films from Marvel Studios, though no official announcement is likely to be made until the conclusion of the final season of Cranston's hit AMC show.
Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey previously portrayed Luthor on the big screen. Whether Cranston's Luthor joins the ranks of the greatest superhero villains on film remains to be seen.

If Cranston really is announced as Luthor it's gonna be by huge-ass coincidence, because that report comes from a site called Cosmic Book News that no one is linking to because if they do, you'll notice that it's a shitty fucking website that makes shit up and offers no sources. On the same article where they say "Cranston is Luthor" they also say "Matt Damon is Aquaman". I'm not kidding, look it up.

This is a common tactic in the Philippines. Everytime the government is in the hot seat, they ask one of the two large media companies to stage a scandal. People get distracted, and the government is off the hook.
I bet the white house's recent eid al ft lockdown didn't work, so they ask Warner Bros. to do something stupid and voila! the NSA is forgotten. - There's only one person tough enough to save the country, nay the world, from the sight of Ben Affleck dressed as Batman: President Barack Obama.
Or so some Batman fans thought when they signed a petition at "We the People" to request Affleck's removal from playing the Caped Crusader in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. "We the People" is part of the White House's official web site where common folk can push change they can believe in.
Sadly, the petition has been taken down from the site.

But seriously... I wish they'd pick an actor to play Batman who actually resembles the comic book Batman/Bruce Wayne. I'd prefer if they picked an unknown actor to define the character onscreen, and didn't pick a known actor (like Affleck, or even Christian Bale) who bring their own pre-existing personality (and baggage) to the character.
Batman sells because he's Batman. You don't need some big-name actor to draw attention to a Batman movie.

Bale wasn't really a big name actor before Batman Begins. Most he was doing supporting roles and indie movies. Even "American Psycho" was only a modest hit, if that.

Well... as far as not having runaway blockboster movies on his resume, I'd agree. Granted, not a huge star, but enough films to have an established onscreen personality.
Christian Bale did still have several well-known movies prior to his Batman movies, such as Empire of the Sun, American Psycho, Reign of Fire, and (sometime during his 3 Batman films), Terminator Salvation.
I previously knew and liked him best for an early role he played in the movie Swing Kids.

I dont see why not. Nobody says Luthor has to be an older guy. Hell, pre-Crisis continuity had Supes and Luthor at the same age. A new take on Luthor as a young billionaire who made his money with social networking or other internet money like Google, and is seen as this nice guy, but is actually out raping horses and killing women. People really need to stop Pariahring a film before it comes out. As said before, the Batman franchise has been full of WTF? casting moments over the years that got ripped to shreds only to work out well (Keaton & Ledger spring to mind). And hell, everyone was pissed off with Katie Holmes in Begins, but then wanted her back when they cast Skeletors sister in the second one.

I actually agree with what Nowhereman is saying with the exception being that I don't know a single soul who wanted Holmes back. Compared to Miss Skeletor, Holmes was a better option.
