https://www.yahoo.com/tech/comcast-apologizes-after-customers-name-shows-up-109423091834.html

 Quote:
Everyone knows that Comcast … struggles with customer service. Now, new evidence has surfaced to suggest that at least one of its employees is also just plain mean.

Via Elliott.org, a Spokane, Wash., resident named Lisa Brown claims that, after she called Comcast to cancel her family’s cable, her husband’s name was changed from Ricardo Brown to “Asshole” Brown on her most recent cable provider bill.

Brown’s story surfaced in a report from consumer advocate blogger Christopher Elliott:

"Brown has tried to fix the name herself," he wrote. "She’s visited her local Comcast office and phoned higher-ups in the Washington region. But she wasn’t getting anywhere and needed help."

Apparently, Lisa Brown called to cancel the cable portion of the bill because her family was experiencing financial difficulties and she wanted to cut costs. She was — of course transferred to a retention specialist, who tried to persuade her to sign up for a new two-year contract. When the specialist proved ineffective, she was charged a $60 cancellation fee.

Elliott said that it was only after he reached out to the Comcast communications staff that the company responded to Brown’s complaints.

While Jenni Moyer, senior director of Comcast corporate communications, said she couldn’t verify that timeline, she did confirm to Yahoo Tech that the incident happened. She also offered an apology.

"We have spoken with our customer and apologized for this completely unacceptable and inappropriate name change," she told Yahoo Tech. "We have zero tolerance for this type of disrespectful behavior and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine what happened. We are working with our customer to make this right and will take appropriate steps to prevent this from happening again."

At the very least, my girl Lisa should definitely get her $60 back. And maybe free HBO for life? Yeah, definitely free HBO for life.

In Comcast's defense, you are an asshole.

Those people's jobs suck. Have any of you been in a call center? It's a cesspool of misery and dick hole management. Chances are high the person who did that quit that day. It probably should have been Bitch Brown instead of Asshole tho. Cuz she's a female.

I do feel sorry for call centre people and when they call I am always nice to them. Once someone was so happy I was pleasant they were gushy in their goodbye.

Having said that, once an English guy rang my private home line and I answered in Japanese thinking it was my dad (he doesn't speak Japanese - he and I have a thing where we pretend it is the wrong number or pretend the other persons has rung a brothel). The sales guy was such a douche I just carried on in Japanese.

The only other time I was rude was when a sales person said their telco deal was approved by the Australian government. It wasn't and I knew it wasn't. I got mad and asked to speak it their manager. Oddly they didn't put me on hold. You could hear this hushed conversation while they debated what to do. Finally, after 3 minutes of me waiting, they gently replaced the phone on the hook.

I try to be nice to customer support people by default. I've worked half a decade as one and understand that most of the time, they're really just being used as meat shields for the actual people who can do something about my problem. Getting angry at them won't solve the problems faster, it just ruins both of our day.

I just let them go through with their script until we get to the point where they file a support ticket.

The real assholes I have encountered through the phone are the ones from the credit collection agency. My deceased grandmother had unpaid dues in her now-disconnected celphone line that people from the credit collection agency are still going after to this day (and it's not like I can pay them now. They've piled up the charges and now amount to hundreds of thousands.)

One of them even called my mom at her work, I have no idea how they got the number, and it caused a problem for her (she works as a guidance counselor at a public school.)

I can vouch for that. About 20 years ago I worked in a call center for a rental car company, and then customer support for a bank. I never made nasty comments on a customer's account notes, but I did print out hardcopies of some of the more absurd situations I dealt with. I kept them in a manila folder I called "the Ridiculous File", that several of my closest co-workers really enjoyed.
Only at the rental car company, I wouldn't want to duplicate or be responsible for a bank customer's financial information. And this was in an era before identity theft was rampant.

At the bank, I actually got a call from Harlan Ellison!

I also got a call from a doctor in my physician's office, who was involved in consolidating and making a payment plan for his debt. I mean, a doctor makes in the neighborhood of $200,000 a year, but some people still don't know how to manage their finances, and even at those wages, spend more than they earn.

The most annoying part for me was having managers monitor your calls. I had one manager score me 100% on a call evaluation (you had three a month evaluated) telling me I was patient, let the customer vent, and then helped him.
A month later, I handled an identical kind of call the exact same way, and the bitch manager scored me 60%, saying I didn't use enough "call control" (i.e., interrupt him, talk over him, and get him off the line).

The worst I ever did was hang up on a select few really unpleasant people.

When I was a copier tech one of my busiest accounts was a reseller of Omega-3 fatty acid supplements (the same damn fish oil you can buy at the drug store) and I sat in on more than my fair share of those meetings. The business practiced positive-negative reinforcement (examples: (hostile call)you did well but you should have offered them a free bottle to stay, or (polite call)you did well but they sounded eager you should have offered them...whatever other bull shit we sell too). I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be one phone call away from being fired by an asshole manager on a power trip. My job as a network admin is to help you, not take your shit because you have a weird ass problem that ghosts in and out of existence or you want to run a Mac in a Windows environment and make it work the same and be pissed that it doesn't. I've hung up on people more than once and I've said I won't take shit from anyone and my boss just nodded and walked away.
