Oregon legislator on House floor calls Spock 'greatest Republican in history'
SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Bill Post, a state representative for the Oregon State House, memorialized Spock actor Leonard Nimoy on the House floor Friday, calling him the "greatest Republican in the history of the galaxy."

Nimoy, who portrayed the beloved pointy-eared, half-human, half-Vulcan science officer on Star Trek, died at 83 from progressive lung disease.

Post, whose state district includes Keizer, St. Paul and Newberg, stood on the House floor and paid tribute to Nimoy.

"Thank you madame speaker. Today is a sad day in history. Today the greatest Republican in the history of the galaxy, he was a legal alien who believed in prosperity, passed away. So I want to say, Dif-tor heh smusma (Live long and prosper), Spock. Thank you."

Whether or not Nimoy, or Spock, was actually a Republican isn't clear. In 2013, however, Nimoy wrote on Twitter that he supported a rewrite of the nation's immigration laws, and the White House retweeted one of his posts.

"My friends have always been the best of me." -Doctor Who

"Well, whenever I'm confused,I just check my underwear. It holds most answers to life's questions." Abe Simpson

If Leonard Nimoy was a Republican, that's just another reason to love him!

I thought Nimoy would live at least a few more decades. 83 just seems way too young. I mean, in his alter-ego as Spock, he lived a few centuries!

I seriously doubt Nimoy was a Republican. I suspect the low-level politician who said that was probably trying to make a point about Vulcans being logical and therefore more likely to be conservative

Yeah, I thought so as well.
If he was so pro-immigration reform that he was re-tweeted by the Obama White House, that doesn't seem likely if he were a Republican.

The claim that Nimoy was a Republican being a natural due to his Vulcan logic is pretty funny, though.

He spoke once at Florida Atlantic University. He came into the auditorium to wild applause and a standing ovation. He waved his hands gesturing for everyone to calm down once he got to the microphone, and said "You people must learn to control your emotions!"

The only other two speakers that stood out to me during my years there were playwright Edward Albee, and Ray Bradbury.

This one was pretty cool too:

Some stuff I didn't already know. Imagine Martin Landau instead as Spock!
I'd forgotten Nimoy had a role on Mission Impossible.

Not mentioned, Nimoy was also in two episodes of the original black-and-white OUTER LIMITS series ("The Production and Decay of Strange Particles", and "I, Robot"), and a Twilight Zone episode ("A Quality of Mercy")

"Where No Man has Gone Before"-episode Spock.

I love this episode and "The Cage" for their different image of Spock. And "Mirror, Mirror" as well.

It doesn't matter what he was. He'll be a democrat next election.

I miss the Outer Limits. I wish it was streaming on Netflix or Hulu

I was a little disturbed on some deep level to hear this news. The guy was a part of my childhood. I knew he was old - I saw the last Trek movie and remember noting how he had aged. But you don't like to think that icons can die, as it reminds you of your own mortality.

The man had a good sense of humour. His first autobiography was called, "I am not Spock". The follow-up was called, "I am Spock".

Hard not to smile at that.

Rest in Peace, Leonard Nimoy.

It's on Hulu.

Not Hulu plus though, unless that's a recent addition.

Doog will slowly realize he's trapped in a universe where Outer Limits isn't on Hulu and he can only communicate with our universe through the RKMBs. The end of the episode plot twist is that rob is straight in the other universe, so all of reality explodes.

Bullshit. Rob isn't straight in any universe. And thanks doc, I put it on my watch list. I can't believe there were only 2 seasons of that show! Considering the cult following it has I'd have figured it was on for at least 4 years.
