This was an allegation that really took me by surprise. Back during the 2016 campaign, I saw Gerry Falwell Jr. interviewed on Fox morning news, and as president of Liberty University, he said that Trump had been paying the tuition for a number of students at his university, and as he would do for any large donor to the school, he investigated Trump to insure there was no liability to the school's reputation from any donor donor who might soil their reputation.
What he said is that his investigation showed Trump to be a person of exceptional reputation and generosity. He recalled one incident where Trump's limousine had a flat tire, and an older couple had pulled over to assist. A few days later, Trump had paid off the mortgage to their home.

So.. the allegation that Trump had blackmailed Falwell Jr. to give him the glowing recommendation comes as a surprise.

Here's what I found:

 Quote:

Attorney Michael Cohen allegedly said in a recorded conversation that evaangelical leader Jerry Falwell Jr. allegedly asked him to prevent personal "racy" photos from leaking before [Falwell Jr.] endorsing then-candidate Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Comedian Tom Arnold allegedly recorded a conversation between himself and Cohen in secret March 25, in which Cohen had told him Falwell had asked Cohen had asked for help in dealing with personal photographs, Reuters reported.

“I actually have one of the photos,” Cohen allegedly told Arnold. “It’s terrible.”

Falwell, who is the president of Liberty University, allegedly told Cohen in 2015 the photos were of a personal nature usually kept between “husband and wife,” according to Reuters. Cohen was previously Trump’s personal lawyer.

The person who possessed the photos allegedly destroyed them after Cohen intervened on Falwell’s behalf.

A source “familiar with Cohen’s thinking” said Cohen then helped Falwell issue his endorsement of Trump immediately before the Iowa caucuses, Reuters reported, and that Falwell’s endorsement of Trump and Cohen’s alleged assistance with the photos were unrelated.

Cohen began serving his three-year prison sentence Monday for tax evasion, bank fraud and campaign finance violations over hush payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels, who claimed she had an affair with Trump in 2006.

Falwell did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Daily Caller News Foundation.

So once again, it's an insinuation about Trump, with no actual evidence.
What liberals like to describe aimed at any of them (generally with far more evidence) as "a conspiracy theory".

There is a laughable irony of this having been made public the same week Michael Cohen (the convicted perjuror, used here as the primary source) enters prison for his sentence.

Here is the original Reuters story:

And pointedly, from the article:

 Quote:
Reuters has no evidence that Falwell’s endorsement of Trump was related to Cohen’s involvement in the photo matter. The source familiar with Cohen’s thinking insisted the endorsement and the help with the photographs were separate issues.

Again the disclaimer: implied, not stated. Put Cohen helping Falwell Jr with compromising photos, and combine them in the same sentence with Falwell endorsing Trump.
Reuters implies otherwise, but saves themselves with this disclaimer buried deep in the article.
