Google deserves it for thinking that they can design an algorithm for everything. It's why their search engine is a mess these days. They created all sorts of algorithms that assign quality to content, and people just ended up abusing said algorithms to get better visibility for spam. They're at the point now where they have to release regular algorithm updates just to keep up with spammers, and it's throwing the usability of their search engine in the gutter.
