there's a lot of fuckery in the mainstream media right now. stories are getting buried and commenters are getting banned for mentioning the shooter's statements supporting the Islamic State and other charming and endearing stuff. the sampling of foreign news outlets you can find in less than a minute on reddit lays the guy's extremism out pretty transparently.
