Dole was actually a pretty decent guy from much of what I've read. Not quite a Rockefeller Republican, but not a lackey of the New Right either. It's sad he's been diagnosed with this. Look, I get the whole "don't speak ill of the dead" thing is pretty personal for you right now for obvious reasons. (I lost three family members over the course of 2020 myself, and it really fucking sucks.) But I think I pointed out before that I don't typically do that. Hell, I didn't even get particularly excited when Saddam or bin Laden died. But there's an immense difference at work when you're discussing someone who knowingly and deliberately expended their life being hateful toward entire swaths of humanity. Which Bob Dole wasn't, as far as I know.
