Well, it's certainly been interesting. Entertaining, even, but only in the way that watching Big Brother was. People were all about the "high drama and excitement" of sticking 12 unrelated people in a house together, but all the show really wound up being was Josh scratching his crotch all the time.
It was interesting to see the little internet war last night unfold. Definitely interesting to see the abuses of power... on one hand, people abusing their power to simply post without censorship, and on the other hand, moderators abusing their power over the board.
The main justification I've been hearing for everything that happened last night has been that "this is the way it is over at Rob's boards, this has been hazing of the new members, to be a true member of this group, you have to be initiated."
If this had started as nothing more than that kind of fun-spirited hazing, that would be fine, but it wasn't. It was a planned attempt to "get back" at the moderators who originally deleted posts a few days ago. The same moderators accepted the gauntlet that was thrown, and abused their power over the board by unilaterally shutting down every single thread on the board. If no one can post, there won't be any spam, right? Thus parried in that way, the posters (Franta) posted 4 pages of "We win again" threads. Then, the moderators got the hell out of Dodge.
This place was flourishing. There were over a hundred people posting on a regular basis, brought together by a common love: The Legion. I was invited over here by several friends who used to post on the old DC boards. It lasted about a month, and was one of the coolest things I've seen spontaneously happen on the internet.
However, it's pretty obvious that this internet site isn't about fandom. It isn't about maintaining internet friendships from the old DCMB's. And it sure as hell ain't about the Legion. There is a group of about 7-10 people who post here who want it to be ALL. ABOUT. THEM. Thus the "LLance Legion Headquarters." It's the very unmoderatedness of the site that allows it to be this way. And you're the only ones who actually give a crap. Isn't that funny... you say you don't, but you're the only ones who do. Everyone else who did has already left the building.
In closing, if I had realized that in order to have an entertaining experience I would have to be "initiated" into your little fraternity, I would never have posted here in the first place.
So congratulations. You won. You really did. You showed everyone who has been posting at Legion HQ who is boss. And in doing so, you screwed a lot of people who were having a really good time. Mr. Spock would be very dissappointed at the illogic of it all. "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few?"
Well, it may be a Legion HQ of three. I don't know - people have arguments and you never talk to them again?
It was a fascinating experiment - and if people just keep hopping from host to host every time there's a problem - well, better call Gates to help with the teleporting.
I'm about as laid back as they come. I found yesterday to be mildly entertaining. These guys have their clique here, and I understand that we Legion posters were new on their turf.
Quite frankly I don't care about those guys. They had their fun. They "won" whatever it is they "won".
I hate giving up and leaving, its just not my style, and quite frankly they didn't do anything to rattle my cage.
On the other hand, this board is only as fun as the people who are posting on it, and if this board is going to be fun for the NB's, then I don't think it's going to be fun for the Legion posters (especially after yesterday). The only way to do that is for the moderators to step up and contradict the spirit of the Rob boards. Because you know these guys will never stop. Every other month they'll be back with the picture. If I were them, I know I would do it.
I'm having a hard time deciding if its worth the effort to stay or not. Do we really want to fight for respect from guys who will never respect us?

No. You're so clueless that you're argueing the wrong points. Mods will never be able to fight back against the spirit of Rob's Board. It's a task than none shall ever accomplish.

That is exactly the point that I inferred in my original post. I question whether its worth the effort to fight a losing battle.
You sound like you're arguing my point for me and calling me clueless at the same time.

It's not a battle unless you make it one. The "invasion" (I still love the use of that term) was over by the time the mods started to lock everything up. There was no need to try and stop us. We were done. And, no, this will not happen every few months or so. We've done it. It wasn't as great as it should have been. We've moved on.

You can say it wasn't a battle. It may not have started that way, but it sure degenerated into one. I point to Franta's three pages of WE WIN AGAIN as proof, that at least one, nonexistant NB thought it was something that resembled a battle. I do agree with you that Legion posters had a different view of the Legion board than what the NB's did/do. Hence they saw it as an "invasion" when they probably shouldn't have.
As for your assertion that you are done, I have a hard time believing that. You may believe that now, but after the way the moderators handled it, I can see you guys getting bored in a couple months and wanting to fuck with the queers on the Legion board just for the hell of it. Just to see if those donkey fuckers learned that everything's a joke, and they shouldn't take spam personally. Buncha JackAss' can't take a joke.
You may be done with it, but some of the others just don't seem like the sort to not kick a dead horse. Only time will tell... and for what its worth, I hope we get the chance to find out.
Hehehe, check which threads are still at the top. Look at the Legion Tirivia thread. I wouldn't say ya'all have moved on. And you shouldn't. This is just as much your forum as it is theirs.
I think the "invasion" comes from the fact that these people just wanted a fun, free place to chat about their Legion. They were very inviting to new people who wanted to share. Then, some other folks came in and talked stuff they didn't want to talk. With all due respect, you upset their plans. While invasion is probably too strong a word, it's no more severe than you're reaction to it.
It happened. Ah well. For better, for worse, I'm here to try and chat Legion stuff with folks. Maybe even an occasiional thread off-topic. They can be fun too.
If I'm lucky, sometime Monday morning, all the threads about this week will have fallen to the second page and stay there. It's a lofty goal, I know. Anyone interested in getting past this is welcome to help out.
You know what's great about this board is that I don't understand what's going on at least half the time. Which is probably why I don't find it hard to get on with people here. Ignorance is bliss.
