Don't bet on it. It's amazing how long one thread that has nothing to do with Lucifer can get.

Actually, the Authority board is filled with off topic posts. There is more rein there than at, say, ODCUTMB.

Very nice dialogue on God and Lucifer, PF, but you left out the line where God says, ""Enh. Who needs you. I'll invent lightbulbs.""

Yeah it all started with someone joking about Mike having once been a teacher. So Mike gave us all homework. So we started acting like a school full of evil psychos (y'know just being ourselves but in a school). Then we realized that we needed a name. So Mike came up with Morningstar High.

Hmmm.... Perhaps that's a bit much to be telling a newbie."

Sorry to keep butting in with replies to stuff from pages ago...damn this real life thing, I used to be able to keep up with message boards when I did nothing but sit in my room all day.
Anyway, I have read Oddcases Bevis and it was great, very much along the lines of what Paul and I are trying to do with Urban Shaman - the mystic in the mundane, weird stuff happening to ordinary people, lots of obscure mythological and folklore references transposed to a modern setting. Like it a lot, make sure you let me know when the next one's due :-)."

I forgot to get Alistair and Bevis to sign my copy. I'm going to regret that if and when they make the big time.

We've just run out of milk in my office and the usual routine of pretend-deafness, brooding, sulking, accusations and pleas of poverty are going on around me. But I only drink black coffee at work (to avoid this kind of nonsense) so it's not my problem. :)

"Thanks Emma, I really liked URBAN SHAMAN. I've actually tried divination by channel hopping, and I think it's really interesting how people are looking at all these new kinds of signs for their connection with the other things that are out there.

There seems to be a whole new generation of magically/shamanically attuned people who are both practicing this new magic, and also writing stories about it. I find it fascinating how comics are the primary medium that these new ideas are coming out in, and wonderful how two of the industries most successful figures (Beardy and Baldy) are very probably the two most important magicians in Britain at the moment.

There are kids out there who really are living the thing that you wrote about in URBAN SHAMAN - there's a fascinating article about kids who live on the streets in Miami and their experiences with a 'Blue Lady' who seems to be some kind of spirit guide.

ODDCASES is based on people I know, and stories I've heard. What I'm trying to do with it is to have Clarissa and Jani as having been the very first of a new breed of techno/magical types when in their prime, who've been doing their thing for a very long time, and are now very, very knowledgable and professional. They know that you can't just cast spells and make everything better - you have to sort the actual problems out.

I'm ten pages in to the next story, which will introduce their niece, drop some hints about their past - and turn into a big, big fight. And it's got Monkey in it. No, not 'a monkey'. Monkey. The best mythological character ever. Oh yes.

Anyway - I'm flattered people want stuff signed. Next Bristol we're hoping to have a trade paperback collection available.

Oh, and for those of you who don't know what we're talking about - you can read it online here:
http://www.opi8.com/sequence/oddcases/oddcases.php

Right - off to make a cup of tea. Why is it some people really don't like brown sugar in tea? I much prefer it."

Another thing we agree on! Brown sugar is much better and doesn't seem to gather in dusgusting coffee-flavoured clumps like white sugar.

I can't wait to see Monkey in oddcases - one of my favourites too, I have a real soft spot for trickster gods :-).

I never know how seriously to take Alan Moore when he talks about magic (or anything else, for that matter - you can hide a lot of irony under a beard like that), but Grant Morrison's web page has a great article on ""Pop Magic"". For anyone who's interested it's at http://www.grant-morrison.com/pop_magic!1.htm.

I was really disappointed not to meet ""baldy"" at Bristol - I was looking out for him and from what I heard he was hard to miss. He must have put some kind of selective blindness hex on people carrying round five unsigned Invisibles graphic novels.

Oh well, next time."

Speaking of Morningstar High, didn't it once have a website? And if so does anyone remember the url?

Even if it is now defunct it migh be possible to find it in some of the web-archives.

It was a great site and I'd love to see it again.

Yesterday for example, I was on-set for a short film, when Korea beat Italy. The set happened to be in a heavily Korean influenced part of Toronto and the celebrating went on from the moment we started shooting to well after we had wrapped, 7 hours later. It pretty much ruined the sound for the shoot but it was amazing to watch groups of people (who should have been working) spontaneously form into parades. In hindsight, we should have been filming in the ""little Italy"" section of the city, but who knew????"

Ugh, two of the things I hate most in the world, football and beer.

But as consolation it's nearly Wimbledon, my birthday, strawberrys are in season and if we're lucky and the weather's good it's a perfect excuse to go and drink Pimms and lemonade. Yay! "

Oh, and it's not tea, but close...Back when John McEnroe was the Top Dog of Tennis, this little lovely happened: he complained that the new balls were too colder than the 68 degrees F that they were supposed to be stored at and demanded they check the cooler that they were stored in waiting for the ball changes. It turned out that the ball boys were keeping their lemonade in the cooler and had turned down the termperature to keep their drinks cold.

Oh yeah, I was way too much of a tennis gumby.

You spelled schizophrenic correctly, but used it wrongly (as most people do). It doesn't really mean split personality in the sense you think. A more correct metaphor would have been ""multiple-personality"" (or, for Italians, ""agitated depression"".

Further notes on misused psychiatric terminology, ""manic-depressive"" does not mean ""very deeply depressed"" although people with that condition can be so. It's more about mood swings, sometimes very high (manic) to very low (depressed), but not always.

And don't get me started on ""alcoholic""."

McEnroe was a great player but as good as a lot of the men were it was the women who were the most fun to watch. Martina and Stephi are the obvious names (and watching them play doubles was fantastic. No-one else had a ghost of a chance) but women like Virginia Wade were almost as good. They actually played interesting tennis with volleys and stuff rather than just going for the straight aces. That's what made them fun. There are a couple of female players like that still, but not many. Oh, and Anna Kournikova is the most over-rated tedious tennis player the world has ever seen. Yik.

I bet she doesn't even drink decent tea."

In fact the fact she isn't fifteen means she plays much better than most of them. She may not have the speed any more but she still has more technique, flair and ability than almost any tennis player out there.

And I must admit some admiration for Agassi. When he plays well he's great. Same with Becker. And at least neither of them are that ghastly monkey-man Sampras.

Welcome HG! Try this trick to see if your mind's been affected: hold your hands in front of your face and move them from side to side.
