NASCAR season is upon us again, and I normally could give two shits. But FOX has been running the hell out of promos for the races they'll be broadcasting, and one in particular caught my eye. It's very stark, high contrast black and white, I think with a splash of color. The first time I saw it, I just assumed that whoever produced it just fucked with it in post-production, but then I caught certain aspects of it on further viewings. They use a comic-like layout on the screen, splitting the action up, and one of the "panels" focuses on a driver, intense behind the wheel. Quite frankly, the animated driver is a splitting image of Marv from Sin City fame. Another driver could be Dwight from what I can see. The entire promo looks like it stepped out of the pages of Sin City and onto Fox Broadcasting Network.
Does anyone (NASCAR fans? Frank Miller fans?) know if Miller did indeed have a hand in the production of this spot? It's gorgeous to look at, it's getting me excited for a "sport" I would normally ignore (and most likely will continue to ignore, outside of this goddamned promo).
