meh, i give johns a lot of credit.
he's writing a boatload of characters i never really cared about, and finds a way to get me to read them and want to know more about them. and no batman! that, alone, is a huge challenge.
and, really, from what i've heard, even long time fans of the characters in question appreciate his work.
that, really, is the major undertaking all of today's writers have in front of them -- to be able to please most of the older fans, most of the newer fans, and pull in not-yet fans. and, to his credit, i think he's really done a great frickin job of that.
scouring through the jsa or flash (etc, etc) forums, i see lots and lots of happy fans and happy fanboys (and girls).
while he might not be my personal favorite writer (i said "no batman"), id easily rank him as one of today's greatest

i personally find it odd that someone can not find a single modern comic that they like. i mean not liking a particular writer is fine(bashing him at every opportunity, regardless of how remotely related to him the topic is, well that's another story) but not a single modern writer seems like a problem. and not with modern or contemporary comics writers. whats more, most modern comics writers still call comics comics, very few actually call them pamphlets. most of the time when the word pamphlet is used, it's people trying to make modern comics writers look pretentious.
oh and pretentious, phallic and cranium would make someone a pretentious dick head, not a "pretentious dick". and is spelling really something to brag about when anyone can just run something through spellcheck?

My question is pretty clear: what CURRENT SERIES of COMIC BOOKS, excluding Manga, do you regularly pick up and read? I'm not talking about "hot" creators, I'm talking about regular series. Because here's my contention: You don't read any current comic book series. None. Not by "hot" creators, not by ANY creators. So, when you come here and post inflammatory comments about series you don't read, in my opinion your comments and opinions hold zero water.
We understand that you're obsessed with the "Marvel Family", particularly your fanfic "vision" of said characters. We get it already. But I, for one, am sick and tired of you coming onto the boards just to post some bullshit comments slagging a creator whom you don't even read. You don't know what you're talking about, and no one here cares about what your "vision" of those characters is. If you can't come here and post something more substantial than "he/she sucks", then please stop wasting people's time. You don't even have to be 100% in love with what's being discussed, but you should at least be able to expand on your opinion. Which you can only do if you've actually exposed yourself to the topic - something you, by your own admission, haven't done.
You're the comic book equivalent to that cranky old man who tells his grandkids that "all music stinks" when he hasn't listened to an album in over 40 years. And, yes, that comment was pretentious. Which only serves as more justification to completely discount you and your opinions. And commenting on the "brilliance" of your own post...well, that's just sad.

Becase they're all pretentious, homogenous crap, too filled with gratuitous sex and violence and too busy trying to be relevant to be fun or entertaining. The talentless hacks that make up the majority of modern "writers" are too busy pumping out dark and depressing re-hashes of stories that were done by genuinely talented creators twenty years ago to produce a good comic book.
