I saw it during its first run a couple of weeks after it opened. I had to wait in line for two hours with my father and little brother.
I'd already read the novelization, and the first issue of the Marvel comic, but nothing could have prepared me for that moment when the music started and the backstory began flying off into space.
Words cannot describe what an incredible experience it was.

Completely awestruck when I first saw it. I remember I thought "somebody in Hollywood FINALLY knows how to make movies!"
I think I'm still awestruck. And IMO it's STILL the best out of all the movies Lucas put out in the series.

Y'know, I can distinctly remember first seeing SW in the theater in December. December! I don't know whether it was a second-run theater (possible), or if the movie was really around that long (also possible), but my stubborn memory insists it was December when I saw it. Go fig.

I went about three months into its initial theatrical run...and bought the video the second it hit store shelves.

I didn't see it until August, 1977. Interestingly, I saw it on the day Elvis died. I saw it 2x after that. I was 12.

I'm talking about the first time it was out. Unless it was re-released that same year. Help me, older people, you're my only hope! ![](/images/graemlins/default/tongue.gif)

It was 1st released in May of '77.
I finally got to see it around the summer of '79 during one of it's many re-releases. I was 9 or 10 at the time.
I remember this because it was the 2nd feature after Warren Beatty's new film, "Heaven Can Wait" at Mann's Chineese Theatre in Hollywood.
I may be mistaken but Mann's Chineese Theatre, where I actually saw it, might have been playing it continously those two years from the time it was released up until I finally got to see it.

While I can't speak for the rest of the cinemas where you guys saw it...at the cinema where I saw it, they had STAR WARS in continuous run for over 30 weeks after its release in May, 1977...the demand was just that great.
Of course, I can't imagine any studio allowing a movie to stay in the theatres that long. It would interfere with the release of the DVD. LOL

It was pretty far into its run by the time I saw it, but I did see it. Going to see it is my first really vivid memory (I was three at the time) so I'd have to say it really did make an impression on me.

I don't remember when I saw it exactly, but I remember it was in 77 and my sister took my older brother and I. We went across the street to the Northtown Theater, and I thought it was so cool. I saw it with a roudy crowd, every time Vadar came on the screen, everyone cheered, it was great. Ah man the memeories of that day are just the best.
It's a rented tux ok? I'm not going comando in another man's fatigues.

Should read, "...took my older brother and me."
"Me" is the objective, "I" is the nominative.
C'mon, people, it's English, it's our language. Let's get it right.

If it's our language, that's all the more reason to conform it to our own whims and desires. I have friends that are English majors that try to correct me on this all the time and to them, I saw, "I'm doing good as I am!" ![](/images/graemlins/default/biggrin.gif)

May be. But you now know something ya probably didn't before, don't ya?
And seriously...a guy who calls himself "Disco Steve" is calling me (or anybody else) a dick? Oh, the irony...

Shouldn't that be "Maybe"? After all it is just one word.

I'm sorry, but I don't see any irony in a "Disco Steve" calling anyone a "dick". Granted, I didn't major in English or Psychology when I was in college. Is this "irony" per the dictionary's definition? Or is it "Ironic", like the Alanis Morrisette song (which, we all found out, used an improper definition of the term)? Please, someone, enlighten me.
And Jim? There is a huge difference between pointing out a person's errors in an enlightening manner and just being a smug little troll.

Yeah, but when you have two psych degrees like Jim, the first thing they tell you is that there is no difference. He's just a product of his pedophile-worshipping society... ![](/images/graemlins/default/rolleyes.gif)
