I have seen most of his movies, and can say I'll really miis him, especially his smile right before he wastes some wimps on screen.

I always found his perfectly circular head quite interesting. Never saw much of his movies. That's quite a shame.

Charles Bronson passed away on Saturday.

Who will dish out violent acts of vigillante justice to the street gangs now?

Bronson

I haven't seen many of his movies and those I have seen I didn't like very much. The character he plays in Death Wish saga is so thoroughly unpleasant - almost as bad as the people he's gunning down.

At the same time, I think the world will be a poorer place without guys like Charles Bronson in it.

They don't make them like him anymore.

The only thing I saw him in was Magnificent Seven. I've never seen any of his other films. I'm glad, though, that he and David McCallum were able to work things out and that David forgave him years ago.

One of my favorite actors... (for some reason)
Dirty dozen was great.

And he was in some early episodes of the Twilight Zone as well (wasn't everyone?)

Did you see the episode of the Simpsons?

81 though, not too shabby...

I was flipping channels last night and happend to catch teh A&E Biography on him right after it started. I watched it but didn't pay too much attention. I don't know why, I was curious to see it because I heard someone said they didn't say some nice things about him. So I watched it and noticed something that just seemed kind of odd, to me at least. The main person that was talking about him/his life was his first wife. This was filmed after he remarried for the3rd time, and yet Kim was never interviewed. The others that were were a biographer, 2 directors/producers, Jack Clugman and James Coburn.

They talked about Jill and the time she was married to David and showed a few pictures of David, magazine shots. I found it kind of odd that they didn't mention his kids/stepkids much. Also, Jason McCallum died from a drug overdose in the 80s and yet they didn't mention anything about him. Sure he was Bronson's stepkid, but if I remember correctly, Jill had custody, or at lesat joint custody of the kids with David.

I don't know, like I said, I found some things about it kind of odd. I guess that's just because most other A&E Biographies talk to the person's kid(s) and more family than this one did. It could have just been because Bronsn was a private guy. *shrugs*

He was really great in the Andy Griffith episode where he shot Otis & went to Emmit's Fix-It to "fix" Emmit.

0.o He had an issue with Robert Vaughn? I never heard anything about that. Nope, I did mean David McCallum. Jill Ireland was still married to David when she and Charles started dating. Jill and David divorced and she married Charles a year later. David later went on to marry Katherine. :) As someone on one of the MFU lists said, it was meant to be this way. He and Katherine are still together and very happy. :)

Vaughn's performance was my favorite, and probably one of my favorites of any movie.

Interestingly enough, most of the Magnificent Seven have passed fairly recently. Steve McQueen and Yule Brynner, who played the two main characters, died in the 80's(both of lung cancer), James Cobourn died last November, followed shortly by Brad Dexter the next month, then Horst Buchholz(Chico) this past March.

Eli Wallach(graduate of UT Austin), who played Calvera(and Mr. Freeze on the old Batman TV show), is still alive.

Yeah, the night that news broke about Bronson, someone did a post saying, and then there was one. Mentioning how Vaughn was the last of the 7, then posted a link to the news on Bronson.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest seeing the M7 DVD. I rented it in December and watched the extras, after the movie of course. I just cracked up listening to the guys talk about what it was like on set. During rehursals, they'd play cowboys and indians. And there was one scene where everyone tried to upstage the next person. LOL great stuff. :)

Yeah, I got the DVD a few months ago. Good stuff.

I still prefer Shichinin no samurai, but Magnificent Seven was great, as well.

Believe it or not, I didn't know it was a remake of a Samuri movie until I rented the DVD in December. I had seen the M7 back in the 80s, but found that bit of information interesting. I'm interested in seeing the original now. If I remember correctly, they said M7 was a great remake of it.

Conceptually, it was brilliant. The feudal age samurai really is the eastern hemisphere's equivalent of the wild west gunman(or vice versa, chronologically). It's why Asian culture has always been so fascinated by the cowboy and the legends surrounding them(as reflected by popular anime like Cowboy Bebop and Trigun), just as Americans are fascinated by the samurai.

As a cast, M7 also did a fantastic job of reproducing the starpower that Seven Samurai had, though I don't think there's an actor on M7 quite at the level of Toshiro Mifune(not even Steve McQueen).

If you're planning to watch Seven Samurai, congrats, you're in for a treat. However, be warned, it's an epic, which means it's very long.

Thanks for the warning. Now the question is, where would one find it? Is this something I could find at say Blockbuster or Hollywood? If not, then I don't think I'll be seeing it.

It should be. It's a foreign film but a very, very famous one.

If not, Best Buy has it, or you could order it online.

Cool thanks. I've rented foreign films before, just never noticed it, I guess. That and since I didn't know about it before I wouldn't have noticed it.
