Remember those little public service announcements that used to play after the episode? Y'know, "knowing is half the battle" and all that shit?

Isn't that like saying something to the extent of:

"Hey, kiddies...ya just watched a half hour of simulated viloence and mayhem...but DON'T DO DRUGS! YO JOE!"

That was ingenious.

Think about it. It was a show filled with violence. Good guys fighting bad guys.

So, to keep on TV, to get parents to support it by purchasing the toys, they threw in the public service anouncements at the end of each show.

They figured that no one would speak out against the violence of the show if they told kids not to do drugs, not to pet stray dogs, not to sit too close to the TV, etc.

I think they did the same thing for Super Friends.

At least, I'm guessing that was the motivation behind it.

And, I bet that if todays violent kids shows, like Power Rangers, if they added some kind of pro-American thing at the end of each show, no one would say that children can't watch them.

Hell, they even re-edited G.I. Joe: The Movie so that Duke lived at the end. (Originally, Duke was supposed to have been killed by Serpentor with that graphic snake-spear through the chest.)

I think he's referring to the death of Optimus Prime. That was a heart breaker. The greatest Autobot was killed in battle.

And he stayed dead for a while. So you still feel the impact to this day, b/c he dies in the film and he stays dead.

I still haven't seen the episode at the end of the second series where he comes back and save everyone from that virus. I don't think it was aired over here.

Plus, the were the deaths of the first Autobot shuttlecraft, that Megatron and crew slaughtered.

I seem to remember a few Insecticons being crushed when Hot Rod and Kup were making their way back to Autobot City during the Decepticon assault...

No I meant that Optimus kinda lived on through the chest gadget thingy. And many of the others just got new bodies. Some died, of course, but how many. It didn't seem like all that many at the end.

The Matrix of Leadership...yeah, that's true in a touchy-feely new-agey kinda way.

Cliffjumper survived.

Windcharger, Brawn (though some fans claims he survived [yuh huh] ), and Prowl were killed as well.

The only thing I remember about the episodes that took place after the film were the ones in which they were looking to replace Unicron's eyes...I've been meaning to pick up those box sets that Rhino produces of the seperate seasons, but haven't yet.....

I remember that the Power Rangers used to have public service announcements at the end of each show too. Now all they teach you is that Guinea Pigs and talk and do good kung fu!

What are they teaching kids these days? Even PBS has forgotten it's commitment! I mean the Tellitubbies make your grammar WORSE!

I believe GI Joe had those PSAs at the end ("and knowing is half the battle"), as did most cartoons of the 1970s and 80s, because the federal government demanded that childrens' shows have a certain percentage of "educational" content in order to get on the air. I also believe that this de facto censorship was eliminated under Pres. Reagan.
