What CBS did was atrocious, but at least they thought they had the story right.

Fox was pulling a National Enquirer.

Iy's a leftie liberal socialist commie trick. Everyone knows FOX is the only place you can get the truth as all other media is left wing lies. How dare you commies try to discredit the only patriotic TRUE American network in this country.

And this isn't as bad as the CBS story because this story doesn't make Bush look bad and besides, it's obvious this story is true.

OK, so let me get this streight. The fact that Fox accidently ran a joke article impying that kerry got mannicures and immediately took it off their web site and issued an IMMEDIATE retraction and took disciplinary action against the author of the joke even though it was never intended to be posted is worse than the fact that CBS ran a story accusing the president of criminal wrong doing based on forgeries that thier own experts told them were most likely false , then following the story when the forgeries were exposed, they intentionally ran a smoke screen with a so called expert who through his own articles wrote the book on svengali expert swapping, then tried to lambaste the bloggers who exposed the truth and then tried to run with well the story was predicated on a lie, but we still think it's true, followed by an attemt to pretend the incident never happened.

So lets see, why is it worse? is it the seriousness of the carge? no. Is it the intent of the story? no, was it the reation from the Network to the story? no, was it the attemt to cover up the story? no..... well then what makes it worse? Oh yea it's because it was perpitrated by the right! ..... I'm sorry, but that's just patetic. It was bad and it was stupid, but to say it's worse is partisanship at it's most ugly.

Yes accidently, hence the immediate pulling. According to the news story Cameron wrote it as a joke e-mail to some of his buddies, but being that he is a legitimate news reporter his joke e-mail got into the wrong hands and got posted on the web site (note it didn't appear anywhere else) As soon as they found out what happened the network pulled the article and diciplined Cameron for what was an inapropriate and dangerous* joke.

* dangerous in that given his position he should produce anything that looks anywhere close to a real news story.

Quote:

Carl Cameron, a Fox reporter who covers the Kerry campaign, wrote an item that looked like a news story with made-up Kerry quotes, said Paul Schur, a Fox spokesman. The item was not intended to be posted on the site.

Perhaps FOX should consider having someone else (a bit less biased & more profesional) covering the Kerry campaign?

Oh please. Those issues were legitimate and highly criticised MEANINGFULLY. This thread however doesn't compare in the least. It's so obviously a poor attempt to try and take the attention off of CBS for a much worse crime of mis-info. Trying to bring FOX down to CBS's level using this........ S'just not gonna work son. It's a cheap tactic that's blatantly flawed.

CBS made one mistake (a very very big one) but FOX is far more biased in the day to day operations. FOX needs to make some big changes to move up to CBS's "level".

Anyway, if it weren't for the line about this being worse than CBS I would have taken it more seriously and granted you guys the the right on this one, but you overplayed your hand.

The title may not have suggested so, but in the end, we disected the issue of the actions of Liberals, and put forth a lot of effort into arguing what Liberals stand for and/or could stand for in the future. Despite all of the flames, yes it was meaningful--Hell! The same sex marriage thread in the end was meaningful despite Matt Kennedy and the unability to keep civility between the more serious posters. Facts from both sides filtered through. More than we'd like to believe. I say that because people say its just one big ball of....flame (tee-hee). We may not have gotten to any sort of agreement in either thread, meaning it can't exactly be considered productive, but I don't think it should be in any way considered unmeaningful.

Sorry WBAM but even FOX's finance show resulted in Kerry bashing (mostly in ways having nothing to do with the stock market) when I last watched it. Far to often their news uses the phrase "Some people say..." as a way to bash Kerry without actually sourcing who exactly "Some people" (the owner of FOX perhaps) When FOX starts relying less on opinion & starts covering events like the DNC & RNC more equally I'll give them some credit.

First off, the Fox "finance show as you refer to it is an opinion show "Your World w/ Neil Cuvuto" or something, I know that and I don't even have cable, but nice try anyway. Second are you trying to imply that CBS doesn't use the oh so common "Some people say" tactic?

Speaking of finaces, what are your thoughts on teh "Fair Tax" (follow the link in the sig)

I don't have cable myself. It was evidently an opinion show because that is all it had to offer. More to the point, it was actually less opinion & just Kerry bashing with no substance. And it did label itself as a finance segment. As Whomod points out the "Some people say" thing is covered in OutFOXed. A CBS show may have used the phrase but it's a particular crutch for many FOX news shows.

Hell, CBS just did a whole story that "Some people say" Bush will bring back the draft, based on that "urban legend" email floating around.

Fox New Channel admits reporter posted fake story about Kerry
47 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) - An official at Fox News Channel said that one of its political reporters has been disciplined for posting a fake news item on its website about Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

Paul Schur, a spokesman for the network, said Fox's chief political correspondent Carl Cameron had been disciplined for posting an item on FoxNews.com that included several made-up quotes attributed to Kerry.

"Carl has been reprimanded," Schur said Sunday, defining further comment.

The article alleged to cover a post-debate rally by Kerry at which the Massachusetts senator was purported to gush over his "metrosexual" appearance.

"Didn't my nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!" the article by the Cameron read, purportedly quoting Kerry after the event.

"Women should like me! I do manicures," the story also quotes Kerry as telling the crowd.

The article also has the Democratic candidate contrasting himself to US President George W. Bush.

"I'm metrosexual -- he's a cowboy," Cameron quoted Kerry as saying.

Officials for Fox, which has been criticized for being biased towards Bush's Republican party, decline to explain how the spoof article ended up on the network's website.

A statement by Fox on the website Sunday apologized for the article, saying it was a joke.

"Foxnews.com erred ... on Friday, posting an item purporting to contain quotes attributable to Kerry," the statement read.

"The item was based on a reporters partial script that had been written in jest and should not have been posted or broadcast. Foxnews.com also regrets that error, which occurred because of fatigue and bad judgment, not malice."

US media quoted a statement by the Kerry campaign's spokesman, Phil Singer, saying Fox was right to own up to the gaffe.

"Fox is doing the right thing by admitting its mistake and correcting the record," Singer told the New York Times in an article published Sunday.

"George Bush would be well-served to heed the lesson and admit to his own mistakes," Singer said.

I think if Cameron was teh one who acctually put the story on the web, then Cameron should get sacked. That's not cool at all. When I read the other article it made it sound like Cameron was the one who wrote it, but not the one who posted it. This is acctually much worse. Not as bad as cheating at a presidential debate, but still bad. Oh did I mention that Kerry cheated at the debate?
