Oh why must the Gods of Football tease us with this crap?!?!?!?!?

I watched Miami vs. St Louis last night, and man was it painful. Not as painful as the Bears/Bengals game I went to saturday, but still bad. Why don't they just skip the pre-season shit and jump right in. It's almost as bad as the XFL.

Lord, save us from bad football...

Pre-season is used so a coach can get a look at how his players are playing on the field and so they know who to fire and who not too.

Glad to see I am not the only Jets fan on the DCMB's, but I am disappointed the Jets dumped so many players in the off-season, Moss will be out for 12 weeks and their defense still sucks.

And I'm pissed that I didn't get to see Jerry Rice play in the Oakland game.

Ok...I have a dumb question...it's a little off the subject, but is there any difference between a player who is released and a player who is waived? This guy I grew up with just got waived from the Browns and I thought it meant cut completely, but someone else told me that he is just part of the practice squad. HELP!!!!

Football, because of the salary cap and the roster limits, has the most screwed up way of dealing with players. Your friend was probably waived by the Browns (did he start out as an undrafted free agent?), with the Browns hoping that nobody would pick him up before the season starts. If that happens, they can sign him to their practice squad, where they can devolp him and they don't lose the rights to him this season. If he makes the practice squad (sometimes referred to as the taxi squad) he'll be on the team that the regular players use as "beating up material" through out the season. He can be brought up from the practice squad during the season, but can't be sent back down. If he makes the practice squad, there's a pretty good chance that he'll be invited back to camp next year. Usually players on the practice squads are those that the team likes and thinks they have a chance in the NFL, but they want them to develop a little bit more...

Yeah...he was an undrafted free agent...I sort of figured he would be on the practice squad since he is fast, but can't catch. Thanks, you helped me out!!
