You're right dude, I dated a chick who smoked (she quit when she was with me but started up again towards the end of the relationship) and it was damned disgusting. Second hand smoke is why I hate going to some people's houses...as well as bars and bowling alleys.

I remember when they made it illegal to smoke indoors in California. You could actually see the strippers from more than a foot away.

...no that'd be bad!!....
And, to be fair, one of my favorite friends there is blind and I take every opportunity available to make fun of that and we're still friends. That guy never fit there. He never got the spirit of the RKMBs. We're gonna keep an eye on the obits, see if he finally left or if he really did have a heart attack. 2,506,410.81 CAD Rack points

I didn't realize cigarettes counted. I'm currently trying to quit (I'm smoking those Quest 3-step cigarettes). As for all the nonsense about second-hand smoke, feh! Now, I don't advocate smoking around children, hospital patients, or the elderly, but otherwise, if the smoke is bothering you, MOVE AWAY! If someone was sweating a volatile acid and some of it was dripping on you, would you stay there? No, because I'm assuming you're not an idiot.

Jeremy said: The only drugs I've done are alcohol and the medicinal type. Old friends of mine would do pot a lot, when I saw them I'd end up leaving the party.
Same here, and even then steroids are the worst! I was on prednisone and it wreaked havoc with me, I would wake up every hour, on the hour (just about). I took myself off it after a couple nights of that. It made being sick even worse because all I wanted to do was sleep, but I kept waking up and it started to tick me off.
Unlike you though, I've never been to parties where people were doing drugs, although I have/had a friend that would smoke pot and then drive and not care that she was putting my life in danger by doing so because she was obviously altered. Course I didn't know it at the time, but when she finally ticked me off for the last time, she had the nerve to tell me she got high because she was having a bad day and diddn't see what the problem was. It was after that that I realized all the times she'd blatently ignore me and drive like an idiot, as in any second and we could have been in a serious accident, she was high. I once talked to a mutual friend of ours who said she had talked to her a while before that and told me how said "friend" (no true friend would do that to a friend) would use and drive and how I was the one in the car when she'd do this, most of the times, if not all the times.
It's a rented tux ok? I'm not going comando in another man's fatigues.

Until flying cigarettes become the most effecient method of transportation, I'm going to have to reject that analogy. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.

You did note that I said people shouldn't smoke around children, the elderly, or the very ill? My comment was directed at all able-bodied people. Now, in what situation nowadays would avoiding second-hand smoke be difficult?

You drop Extasy but look down on smokers.
Jeremy drinks, but he looks down on somebody smoking a joint.
I'm not trying to personally attack anybody.
I just think if you arn't hurting anyone, to each his own.
I don't look down on anyone that does any of this shit. I just state what Im into. I just find the legality issues of whats what irrational. Not the people. I'm glad people have the right to give themselves lung cancer. I'm glad I have that right if I was so inclined.

There are plenty of daily-life situations where going out of your way to avoid being around smokers is not condusive to accomplishing goals. Waiting for the bus, being in line somewhere, trying to get work done in some way, etc. There are also instances where politeness factors in. My friend's stepmother smokes religiously. When I'm over for dinner, it's like eating inside a chimney. If we go to restaurants, we're always in the smoking section. If we're sitting somewhere waiting, and I have to make polite conversation, out comes the pack o' ciggies.
I'm not judgemental about people who smoke. It's common, it's their life, they know the risks, they can do what they want. However, I am judgemental about people who smoke publically and socially, but then expect other people to move if the potentially harmful substances they're igniting are bothersome.

I hate the fact that so many smokers seem to thing common coutesies don't aply to them. It seems that when smoking outside alot of smokers have no problem standing in entrence ways where everyone has to pass through and why is it that when picking up litter I find that 95% of the litter is cigerette butts, is the idea of putting garbage in a can to difficult for these people to understand?

My uncle is like that. He once borrowed my Dad's car (when I used it before getting the Jeep) and smoked in it. He knew how much my Dad hated cigarette smoke, the same went for me. Yet he did it anyway. A lot of smokers I know are somewhat courteous, they will go outside and away from smokers, but then there's the type that don't care...and they should.

I bought a used car and when I got inside I could instantly tell the previous owner was a smoker. About a week or two later I was cleaning out the glove-compartment and found about a half-dozen cigarette butts in there(along with gum, a broken flashlight, and a Duran Duran CD that I still have).
I admit, I can be a fairly lazy person, but I don't have much tolerance for litterers, especially those who litter with something toxic.
We expect people to pick up dogshit, we should expect them to throw away cigarettes, too.
