I was just there 3 weeks ago. It's better than you could possibly imagine. Liberty Travel has awesome packages and the MGM Grand is one of the most reasonable and coolest in my opinion. Strip Clubs more than you could imagine. You must see "O" and "Siegfried and Roy"......let me know if you want more detailed info. I've been there with a bunch of guys.(it was deadly) and then this past time I was there with my Fiancee (different kind of fun). Viva Las Vegas.

Eat at the Tropicana, Rob--- best Seafood buffet on the strip. (Can't eat there myself anymore because I went vegan about 2 years ago, but my memory of that joint is still quite good, believe me. [wink] )

hmm... im not muchuva seafood person, but a buffet is a buffet, damnit!

regardless, gimme the info!

i've only been to atlantic city for comparison's sake (which isn't much of a comparison at all). is vegas big? i mean, do you need a car to travel between places? are there busses or is it all walkable?

i plan on staying at one of the bigger, central hotels (without payin too frickin much). lotsa gamblin. lotsa strip clubbin.

dunno too much about the shows. i hate chicks in the head dress stuff ...sorta freaks me out. but, if there nekked, im all for it.

You don't need a car....everything is walkable or you just take a cab. Siegfried and Roy is a magic show with Lions and Tigers and an Elephant you'll love it. The new rage are the ultra lounges there's one in Belagio and MGM. The MGM one is called Tabu and they only have tall leggy blondes working there with huge fake boobies. Another really cool place is the Voodoo Lounge at the Rio Casino. It's on the 52 Floor and it's an indoor/outdoor bar with an amazing view......oh and the waitresses are freakin' hot there too....they wear see-through black stuff.....it's not even clothes ....its......aahhhhhh I'm speechless. Yeah, PJP is right--- you really can pretty much handle all the walking on foot. And there are also shuttle buses from the various hotels that will drop you off to the spots that are further away when you get tired of walking. (Hold on to your hotel receipt and if the place your staying has a shuttle you can ride free of charge.)

* Hey, if you get to missing the New York skyline just look out your hotel window (or out-right book a room there) because Vegas has a really cool hotel called "New York, New York" that's a real hoot--- it even comes complete with replicas of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty! And it has a roller coaster on it's roof, too. Very cool place. But my favorite place to stay is the MGM Grand--- and it's also my favorite casino as well so when I'm in Vegas I usually never even bother to leave the Grand. Yep, I pretty much just get shit-faced and play Black Jack until i'm too broke or too drunk (preferably both) to do anything other than go up to my comfy room and pass out. S'great times, let me tell ya! [wink]

Vegas is awesome! Was there back in December. We stayed at Paris...smack dab in the center of the strip so everything was walkable (except when I had to venture to the LV hilton to the star trek attraction to get a 6 pack of romulan ale to bring home to franta). Paris looks very frou-frou but was priced good. Also, get a club card everywhere you go...great discounts and coupons. Many of the hotels/casinos are no longer independent and are part of franchises (like Bally's and Paris), so discounts from staying at Paris also applied at bally's and we could charge meals from bally's to our room in paris. Check out carnival court at bally's...big outdoor party. Bar looks like a carousel and has "Cocktail" worthy bartenders with flaming bottles and all. And they are known for giving out free kamikazee shots. Oh!! And if you like italian food go to Batista's little hole in the wall. You order off the menu on the wall above your booth. You get soup, salad, entree, Capaccino AND UNLIMITED red and white wine with your meal. And there is thisgreat little old man who comes around and sings and plays the accordian. Any more questions, just ask!

ok. im in the booking process now.

frickin pain in the ass cuz there's so much to consider: my availability, cost, hotel availability, plane tix, etc.

i think imma do it thru expedia ("dot coooooooom") cuz they set up a hotel / plane package for you.

right now, im leaning towards doin the new york, new york hotel (figures. fuckin 2500 miles away to get to the same place). hotel looks good, it seems to be in a good spot, its gotta good rating and the price isn't too bad.

it's been suggested that i leave and arrive on a tuesday, wednesday, or thursday, so im planning to leave on a thursday, staying 5 nights, and head back on a tuesday.

is this all the right way to go?

New York New York is ok. I haven't stayed there but it is one of the more family oriented places on the strip (Coney Island, etc) and there are a lot of kids running around. Ditto for Excalibur (kinda medievil times like place) though I think excalibur had more kids. You may want to check the hotels websites and call for rates and book your flight online separate. That's what we did and ended up with a free night in the hotel. Check out www.lasvegas.com and www.vegas.com. Oh, and knowing what I know about you bobo, check out a dance club called The Beach...its a cheezy beach themed place with totally trashed twentysomethings, but they have BIKINI SHOT GIRLS, who all implanted and stuff and in string bikinis who come around and will pour shots in your mouth. And for the ladies there are kilt-wearing shirtless male bartenders who wil let you do body shots off them.

you are wise, kimi, very wise.

Well, look around if you'd rather, but i stayed at New York, New York about 8 months ago and it was just fine. Nice, clean, affordable rooms and not so many rug-rats running around that you would really notice. Hell, if you want to get technical, ALL of Vegas has pretty much been turning into a "family" type atmosphere for the last few years now. Honestly, the place is simply lousy with vacationing families. Man, you should have been there 10 years ago when i first visited "Sin City", by Jingo! Now THAT was the shit!

_____
* It's up to you, but if your "New York, New York" package is considerably more affordable than other packages you look at then i would definitely advise you to go ahead and snag it up--- i don't think you'll find the atmosphere of the place very much different from most of the other comparably-priced hotels in Vegas.

As for packages vs separate you just have to check it out. The first time we had a package and the second booked separate. It depends on what specials places are running and stuff like that. I think you have more flexibility with flights if you book on your own. You just gotta do the legwork I guess.
As for strip clubs you want women right? (JK) Um, I think I remember the guys going to a place called the paladrome (?) a few years ago...don't know if it is still there. And if you want to see an old fashioned strip club go to Glitter Gultch on the old strip. The old strip you have to take a cab to but it's cool. The old strip doesn't allow traffic and they have it covered and have a laser show at night. And there are lots of cheezy old time casinos (stuck a few decades back) with cheap drinks and low limits on the tables.
Oh and when I went in december we took one day (a 14 hours day) and did a hoover dam/grand canyon tour on one of those luxury coach buses. SO worth it. The grand canyon is awesome if you have never been there.

pushed back a bit -- which is fine, cuz i thought they might be cancelled all together.

as much as i loathe the concept of going into the desert during july, it looks like thats the only possibility. which, i guess, is ok: its 100 there in july and 98 in january, so its not so bad.

and, actually, we're trying to get the july 4th weekend, which'll mean some sweet shows and fireworks and stuff.

looking now towards the MGM grand (they're offering a real nice deal)

Rob! You went to Vegas instead of coming to the riverboat casino I work at!?!

Not that I blame you, of course! The Argosy is no Vegas! We have dealers and pits from Jersey, Lousiana, Nevada, England, the Carribean, from all over the world and they've worked all over the world in various casinos! (We even have a Russian couple and peole from Turkey though I'm not sure exactly where in the world they worked prior.) I've heard all kinds of "casino" stories and the Vegas stories are certainly the most prolific and more glamourous ones! I've never been but my wife recently purchased a vacation pack which includes a Vegas trip. I can hardly wait to go myself! I can just see me telling a Vegas dealer that me and my wife work on a riverboat casino and they just sneer in comtempt at us! Of course, the people in the industry know that our casino is one of the best tipped casinos anywhere (hence the reason we have so many people who have been in the business working there now!) so I just may be sneering back just a little! before vegas, i'd never been to any casino besides atlantic city.

there is absolutely zero comparison between the two places.

go 'head, read the lil recap of it all, get an idea of what yer in for. the place is absolutely amazing. and, odds are, you wont even spend that much time gambling!

Rob, you must have lead a sheltered life before Vegas...poor boy. I notice you did not go to Batista's Hole in the Wall...Kick ass italian food with free red and white wine (unlimitied with the meal). Tsk, Tsk.
Oh, and as for Crazy Horse there is one in chicago...if you came to the NB Con, I'm sure a field trip could be arranged! [wink]

Zod spent a week in Las Vegas once! Got drunk the first day and went into a black out not coming out of it until the last day with half the strip trashed and all the police looking for ZOD. Now that Zod thinks about it, that's how all his vacations end up... Hmph. Anyway, good times, good times! [biiiig grin]

no clue why that happened. my guess is that my server company changed the physical location of some of their servers, thus fucking up the times everywhere.

guh dunno.

only if you mean literally.

we drove past it on the way to the stratosphere (and again when going to nudie bars!)

didn't actually go in the place, tho. i didn't think it'd really be any fun. im not much of a circus person (since running away from it, that is).

i wouldn't mind going to the theme park, tho!

well, for starters, there is a strip club in vegas called "sapphire" that is the largest strip club in the world.

i kid you not when i compare its size to a shopping mall. its over 70,000 square feet! its way bigger than the biggest grocery store you've ever seen, and features much nicer produce!

llance, you must frequent this place

I neglected to tell you all that there is a gentlemen's club just a few blocks from the casino I work at. Looks like a hole in the wall from the outside and when guys come in and mouth off that they're going to the strip club after gambling I purposely take all of their money! Aren't I a son of a bitch?
