Midway signs Double Fusion for in-game ads
Fruits of multiyear, multigame deal to be seen in Stranglehold, other select titles.
By Brendan Sinclair

In-game advertising is on the rise of late, with Midway Games providing the latest evidence of a growing trend. The company today announced a multiyear, multititle agreement with Double Fusion to provide dynamic in-game ads for specific upcoming Midway games.

"We believe that the technology to allow for dynamic, in-game advertising will add a sense of cultural relevance and context for the mass-market audience," Midway's chief marketing officer Steve Allison said in a statement. "Our relationship with Double Fusion will not only add potential incremental revenue on top of our existing static ad placements, but allow us to work with a partner sensitive to game development and committed to making ad placements organic and credible."

So far, Stranglehold is the only game that Midway has confirmed will have ads provided by Double Fusion, pointing toward a previously unannounced online multiplayer component for the title, which a Midway representative later confirmed for GameSpot. The publisher did not announce when players can expect to start seeing Double Fusion's ads in its games, but Stranglehold is currently scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2006.

"Wow, a new library of games! I shoud save and quit right here after a climactic boss battle and go reserve my copy now while my thumbs are still nimble!"

Give me strength.

This would be like putting aired television trailers or commercials in DVDs (in the middle of the shows/movies themselves that is) and forcing us to have to skip over them. Instead, they're (usually) kind enough to put all advertisements on a separate menu.

I'd also feel less insulted if they announced extra components and features ON THE BOX or IN THE INSTRUCTIONS like everyone else does. We might as well buy them us and as is from Gamestop.

There is no version of this where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes, and maybe it’s too much for us, but it’s all on you. Because if we can’t protect the Earth, you can be damn well sure we’ll avenge it.

Hello?
Put Natasha on the phone.

What. The. Fuck?!

I remember AirWaves the chewing gum was slided in to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Just small and discrete moments, like a pack of Airwaves being in the Navy 'Chopper, and a blimp advertising it as a plane went by

That. I can stomach

In-game loading menu's and other OTT shit would really piss me off and potentially drive me away from a game published by corporate whores. They're earning more money from these lucrative advertisement deals, so they should drop the games in price, but somehow I dont think we'll be that lucky........

Theres a Pigeon on you're head. You have 'Head Pigeons'. get to the Nurse before they spread to the other children." "Get off my lawn Cookie Beast!" --Invader Zim

it's even more hateful considering how Ragnarok online charges you by the minute for playing. They have no excuse for it.

That's why I play on a free German private surver. It's a little bit hard to roleplay with the goddamn fucks though. Since I don't know how to say "ROB IS GAY" in their language.
