bsams! (or anyone else!)

i know you've talked before about wrestlers communicating in the ring. like, a whole match isn't scripted necessarily, not down to the last detail, anyway. sometimes, wrestlers just go out there and do shit. so how do they talk to each other to set thing sup?

how do i tell you im gonna go for a choke slam or that i want you to throw me off the ropes?

Mr. JLA is right! Pretty close though. Depending on how well you know someone, the less communicating verball you have to do. OR depending on how controlling you are. You see a guy like HHH talk the entire time because he wants to make sure everything goes exactly right.

Most guys use the rest spot, like a headlock of a arm bar to call the next 3 or 4 spots to the other guy. They'll either be real explicit or as brief as "comeback,ropes,hiptoss,clothesline,bodyslam,2 pin" and then from that pin call another series. It really depends on someones experience and confidence with who theyre working with.

There are hand signals too, like if a guy has a guy in a head lock and the guy underneath is going to suples him he'll press his thumb twice into the guys arm to let him know he's going to pick him up.

I've wrestled guys who want the whole match called before you go, and some guys who call the begining and the finish and fill the middle as they go.

Dont refs impart information as well as slip razors to wrestler also?
I heard when they check on someone, they sometimes pass on moves given to them by other wrestlers!

i was watching wrestlemania with a buncha smartfans, and during ric flair's ladder bump, they were looking to see if he "made the x" (i'm assuming with his arms) which they had learned was a code to indicate whether or not it was a real injury.

The refs will often throw up the X sign if its serious.
I can imagine the wrestler might quite often be in too much pain to even think of that (remembers Kevin Nash rolling on the floor crying a few years back).

I thought that was because he realized what his career had become.

Trouble is, sometimes they 'fake out' the crowd with those type of signals.

I think it was Test they did this with a few years back, when he was in the whole him/Steiner/Keibler storyline. He faked an injury (Ankle? Knee? I can't remember) during a match, the ref threw up the 'X', and then Test clobbered Steiner and walked off unhurt. The announce crew tried to do their 'concerned about wrestler/hushed commentary' schtick, but it was still a put-on.

They do more often and prolly alot more often in the bigger feds, a few times I have had a ref good enough to trust to give info to the other worker but usually on the indy level the refs are idiots and will screw it up. I can think of only one or 2 refs that I've encountered that I could trust not to. The refs on the Indy level are usually guys that bug the hell out of the promoter to get on the show.
That being said there the ones that are good are usually damn good.
