Um...let's not talk about Voltron. The Robot Chicken episode pretty much sums it up. Now, this GIJoe stuff is some funny shit. I don't even know where to begin. The Lousiana clan...shrunken soldiers...the one Joe that's a few fries short of a happy meal...I'm speechless.  I have decided that Cobra is my new hero. Consider this: Cobra, two soliders, and Joe are trap in some sort of prison. A machine asks the first soldier 'Will you work?' The guy says yes. Cobra tells the second soldier to say no so he can see what happens. 'Will you work?' '...uh...no...' BZZZZZZ! The computer addresses Cobra. 'Will you work?' 'Yes! YES!' I may actually enjoy this...oh look, Cobra's about to open Osirus' tomb. What could possibly go wrong.

I always thought Voltron was overrated. it never seemed as good as to me other stuff that was around at that time. I mean every episode was the same plot. every episode.
GIJoe had it's good stuff and it's bad stuff. you'd get some really cool characters and some great villains and then sometimes you'd just get some off the wall crazy shit.
Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow and their whole backstory was easily one of the high points of the whole thing (even though it was dealt with more in the comic). Cobra Commander, Destro, Baroness, Zartan, all great villains, great characters, but they would often get put in ridiculous situations. (I'm not even gonna go into Cobra La. . .)
I actually thought Lowlight was a great character with a great backstory and he rarely got used. Shipwreck may have been the first drunk action hero on a kids cartoon. I could probably ramble on for a while but I'm tired so I'm gonna stop here.

I know the exact moment I realized how sub par voltron was. I was watching it and my grandmother walked in and said "Why are you still watching this, you know they will turn into the big robot in the last five minutes and beat the bad guy." I stopped watching it soon after that.
Thats also why I hate power rangers. All they did was rip off voltron.

I always liked Voltron,but I preferred the vehicle Voltron to the Lion one.Can't find that show anywhere.But yeah,G.I. Joe was awesome.

Not really. They were made about the same time. (The Power Rangers for the first season or two were mostly footage from a Japanese kids show from the early 80's with just some new American footage and dialogue.) It's really a common plot structure for Japanese shows. A lot of other anime uses it as well. Hell, even American shows used it. Look at The Incredible Hulk.

I think part of has to do with the female characters.
I thought Voltron's princess was going to be Leia. Spunky. A girl with a gun and a robot. Instead, we get a helpless, hapless blonde who actually got spanked. Jesus on a whole-wheat cracker. I was actually offended.
Hell, GIJoe's babes are awesome. They haven't been kidnapped in a single episode yet. They lead missions. How awesome is that? I'm totally digging Lady Jane and her cute boyfriend with the beret (Duke or Flint, I'm not sure who). Even Baroness (must stop calling her Countess, ha ha ha) has turned out to be pretty dynamic.
Did the people who make Transformers make GIJoe too? Or is that Hasbro owns them both? Because those chicks were pretty tough too.
Two more things to note:
1. I'm not digging the intro. At all.
2. Bruce Timm is listed in the credits. That's cool.

Also, I just checked Jurassic Park. It was written in 1990. This cartoon is a few years older. I can't believe this.

The cartoon started in 1983 I believe..the toy line started in 1982...Transformers started a bit later, but had simlar themes, shows, tendencies, etc.
In GI Joe lore Flint married Lady Jaye after GI Joe first disbanded , but she has since died(supposedly).
Now the really strange part is that in the cartoon Duke and Scarlett were an item and in the comic Scarlett and Snake Eyes were an item..I always defer to the Marvel Comic because Larry Hama wrote that and he created GI Joe (new version) in a joint venture with Hasbro and Marvel. The show is really good until the movie-the movie has its good parts, but the Cobra La stuff is ridiculous as Grimm previously stated...

Well, I'll just say the cartoon leaves it's more military roots behind as it progresses and goes more x-files---for lack of a better explanation.
The comic went more ninja, and the cartoon went more bigfoot/atlanteans-esque.

I knew since college that Optimus Prime died. There's no way you can avoid not knowing that. Hell, that's why the Robot Chichen skit was so funny.
What I didn't know what every other robot died...horribly. Either Prowl or Ratchet actually has smoke coming out of his lifeless robotic mouth before finally expiring. Jazz died, and he was my brother's favorite. Ironhide managed to survive the first assault, only to get shot in the face because he grabbed Megatron's foot.
That I didn't expect.

He doesn't die or anything like that in the movie, he's just in it for about a second and has nothing to do with the story. It pissed me off as a kid because he was my favorite.
