What's a good controller for PC games? I'm thinking about building a PC gaming library and I want a good all-around controller.

I've never used one but the xbox 360 controller seems to be a popular choice for PC gaming.

You can use any xbox 360 accessory as a PC accessory.

I have a Saitek joystick for x-wing and tie fighter. It feels cheap but its a decent controller.

Just looked it up. I had no idea there were controllers that could work for both.

Neat.

The one I found says it's good for XP. I need to find one that I know will work with Vista.

Microsoft, in all its glory, usually ALWAYS makes sure that ALL their hardware/software works with even their latest OS. So, if it's good for XP, chances are that it is good for Vista aswell

Well, it really depends on what you're using it for. Simulators? Get yourself a decent stick with throttle controls; for some games like the Mechwarrior series, it's the only way to go. The 360 controller is definitely an option if you play more "action" oriented games; there's even a tutorial for using it for WoW. If you were so inclined, there's always racing wheels and the like.
As Rex mentioned, the Saitek sticks leave a lot to be desired in the "feel" category, but they work well and have a lot of features.
For a tradtional "pad," either go the 360 route or look for somethin' that catches your eye, and let us know so you can get a second opinion.

I use a Dual Shock with a PC port sometimes. It's very adequate.

The 360 controller is too clumsy for my liking.

What sort of adapter do you have for the dualshock? I've heard some are pretty hit-and-miss and I'm curious how yours fares.

Hah, okay; I was expecting one of the USB deals. Works well enough, though?

wireless keyboard and hi-res mouse, logitech dual action gamepad (identical to ps2/ps3 gamepad), possibly a usb auxiliary keyboard for certain shooters.

My 360 controller works great on...my 360.

I imagine that would be the case with a PC.

You are a mod here.

You don't have to explain yourself or apologize...evar!

(Unless you are a shitty mod like my nemesis, Pariah. Then you should be ashamed of yourself, and only then...)

I've heard good things 'bout these, now that Sammitch mentions aux. keypads.

The shinier "tournament" version (albiet at double the price) of the N52.

Those are both garbage. Along with all the other keyboard like controllers.

I said 'possibly' because they are only really good if you really need the extra keys.

If you're the type who uses 'em, they're pretty handy for macros.
And laptops.

I have a Cyborg Evo joystick, highly adaptable and adjustable for both left- and right-handers.

A good investment that was
