She went in for surgery today and didn't make it. I never got to say goodbye. She was old, though; perhaps it was "her time".

Another facet of my childhood gone.

I feel for ya. We had to put my first cat to sleep not too long ago. She had trouble breathing and one day collapsed and pissed all over the place. When we took her to the vet he told us she had inoperable tumors all over her body and her lungs were filling with fluid. There was nothing we could do but per her down. That was probably the second saddest day of my life.

That really sucks. I still remember when my childhood dog dies at age 14...a part of the family at that point.

Sorry Animalman and S-dogg. I know how you both feel, believe me.

Was that the only dog you had?

In my family we have, like, five. All spread out in ages. It's hard to watch the old one <or psychotic one> die, but at least there's another to still be around.

I'm sorry Ani, losing a pet really sucks. It's psychotic, but quite frankly, I liked my pets more than most people. I lost 2 dogs and a cat in the past 2 years. My 2 american eskimos (Sir Melvin 14 years and Lady Diana 15 years)died in aug 2001 and march 2002. My Cat Marius 11 years died 2 days before Thanksgiving 2002.

I still haven't had the strength to buy a new pet. But my urge to get a new pet grows everyday.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

It wasn't my only dog, and I'd be lying if I said it was my favorite(the black lab is the dog that really dominates my life, and like Pig Iron I like him more than I like any person on the planet, with a few possible exceptions), but it still hurts to lose something that's lived with you for nearly a decade and a half.

Sorry she passed away in surgery. It's always risker when they are older.

My current rabbit, Dakota, is the third rabbit I've owned. Tulip and Daisy are somewhere grazing in that pasture in the sky, I suppose. Now I've moved in with two other girls, two cats, and a dog. A full house, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Dogs make the best company sometimes.

It's amazing that there's an entire board of these losers with no lives. I guess if you have no friends in real life, and no girl would ever want you, spamming message boards might be the only thing left.
