Man, Sam Keith !!
To me, he's one of the younger generation of aritsts, it's hard to believe
he, of all artists, has died. I'll be 63 in a few months, till now I didn't know we were the same age.
I've mentioned Sam Keith's work very favorably in a number of topics here over the years. This is very sad and unexpected news.
I remember Sam Kieth's Wolverine series works in MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS with writers Peter David and Howard Mackie, one particularly good Peter David issue of INCREDIBLE HULK wih Mr Hyde, his Image Comics series THE MAXX that you mentioned, and several Batman series over several decades. And the first 5 issues of Gaiman's SANDMAN series, circa 1989-1990.
Another I really liked from Sam Kieth, for one of DC's short-lived imprints (Piranha Press) were 2 graphic novels titled EPICURUS THE SAGE, that was reprinted in a trade that collected both graphic novels together.
While having his own distinctive style, I see Sam Kieth's work as part of a "school" of artists in a vaguely similar style, along with Kelley Jones, Mike Mignola, Scott McDaniel and several others of the late 1980's, 1990's and 2000's period.
He certainly left us a lot of great work to remember him by.
